#worldcancerday I started having signs and symptoms of what would turn out to be chronic leukemia in the summer 2022 which I ignored until about January of 2024. I was very lucky that the disease hadn’t accelerated any faster than it had and treatment has been relatively mild. I’m very fortunate to be responding well to my medicines and having found ways ( 😉 😎) to have the energy to still pursue the things in life that I care about. Shout out UCLA Health for all the wonderful care they’ve provided me, truly grateful for them. Truly grateful to be alive and living how I want to, even if it is with cancer. 2024 was a wild and very long year. I got diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia in March, spent 3 weeks on chemo pills, and started a long term medication for it. Had some other big life changes and lived in 3 different parts of LA this year. BUT despite the chaos, I hit a lot of PRs, kept training and progressing in grappling, and have been incredibly fortunate in a number of ways in life. Just wanted to let everyone know that I got diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia on March 22nd. I started short term chemo pills on Saturday and my long term medicine yesterday. No side effects so far, lord willing, it stays that way. Everything should be fine. A lot of blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy shows I’m in the most easily treatable stage, even though I’ve had it for over a year. Life should stay pretty close to normal on the medicine, with the possibility of achieving treatment free remission somewhere down the road.

Nogi Worlds 2023
I got to do exactly what I wanted to in my first match and show off the nogi judo/upper body wrestling I’ve been working on non stop for two years. No submission but I racked up 24 points and got the win. Unfortunately during my match I started to feel super “off” and when it ended i had to lay on the floor. Any time I tried to get up it felt like my eyes and the back of my head were going to explode. I was hoping i was just over heated and could recover but unfortunately I couldn’t get myself off the medical table in time to get to my next match and had to be DQ’d. It’s unfortunate that it probably looked like a conditioning issue, as I work really hard to prevent that, but I think it was a combination of dehydration and an ongoing sinus issue. Learning from it and looking forward to getting back on the competition mats in 2024 by @garrettxasc

Few things get me as hyped as seeing someone from my hometown living their dream. @tsjuderjennings is one of the best musicians I’ve ever known and seeing his music take him around the world rules so much, especially when it lands him in Los Angeles. Great seeing you bro, safe travels on tour

Another good time @jjworldleague My first opponent was a no show, so I only got 2 matches and won gold. Happy to implement what I’ve been working on in training and get submissions in both matches. by @garrettxasc
