Lights, Camera, Action!

The nighttime glow has returned to the Gateway Arch after a month of darkness to aid migratory birds on their way south down the Mississippi Flyway. Some of the most dramatic photos of the Arch are at night and these are no exception with the reflection of the lights in the low lying clouds. Do you have a night photo of the Arch? We'd love to see - share in the comments!

Make way for insect royalty!

Much like migrating birds, monarch butterflies use the Mississippi River as a flyway toward warmer climates this time of year. Fortunately, native Missouri milkweed and other flowering plants that offer nectar and nourishment are abundant on the Gateway Arch grounds to fuel the butterflies on their long journey south.

The North Gateway at the Arch near the Eads Bridge is a great place for butterfly spotting. Come take a walk and see if you can spot any migrating monarchs!

Many visitors stop by the Arch and Old Courthouse to collect stamps for their National Parks passport book, but some may be surprised to find an extra stamp at the Old Courthouse: the Underground Railroad Freedom Network Stamp.

The Old Courthouse has been a part of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom since 2002 as a place associated with legal challenges to slavery. The Old Courthouse served as both a courthouse and public forum. Enslaved people were auctioned from its steps as part of estate settlements, while hundreds of people also came to the courthouse to file suits for their freedom.

Stop by the Old Courthouse to learn more about the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom and the history of the building, open every day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Round red ink stamp reading 'Underground RR Freedom Network' and 'Gateway Arch National Park' with date May 26 2024 in the center. by @gatewayarchnps
