Visiting the Gateway Arch in St. Louis? One step and you're standing inside three boundaries at once: the Arch grounds, the city of St. Louis and the state of Missouri.

In Scout that's three patches for one step.

Where else does this happen? Tell me in the comments.

Leaving Fort Wayne behind and hitting the road to chase our 🌈 out in LA ☀️🌴we begin our trip to visit another arch at our first stop in St Louis, Missouri! The Gateway Arch was more impressive in person and learning about the engineering of it was so cool and interesting! The ride up was like riding in an egg going up an elevator/escalator 🐣🛗. The views from the top 😱🤩!! Absolutely worth it!! 👀❤️🌆

The scale of this monument is unbelievable until you try to frame it 📸📐. Capturing the tension between the modern steel structure and the natural landscape surrounding it. Shooting 35mm definitely forces you to move your body to frame a monument this massive, creating much more intentional compositions. Which frame hits best?

2,000-ish miles, four days, five states I got to explore, two National Parks, a meteor crater, a bunch of Cadillacs buried in the dirt, one giant blue whale, and so many places I’d never seen before.

I loved every bit of it.

I could have made this move a lot easier. But then I would have missed all of this!

I think that’s what I’ll remember most—how much life I managed to fit between where I was and where I was going.

The Gateway Arch was the last adventure on my list.

I felt so much excitement knowing that when I got back in the car, there was nothing left between me and Kentucky.

What a way to start a new chapter.

🌉🇺🇸 Did you know the Gateway Arch is EXACTLY as wide as it is tall?!

Standing on the St. Louis riverfront, the Gateway Arch rises 630 feet into the sky — and its base spans exactly 630 feet wide, fitting the whole monument inside a perfect square. Designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen, it was completed on October 28, 1965, and it remains the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere.

🌉 630 feet tall AND 630 feet wide — a perfect square
⭐ A weighted catenary curve, strong enough to sway in earthquakes
🏗️ Built 1963–1965, clad in stainless steel
🚊 A one-of-a-kind tram of rotating pods carries you to the top

Saarinen died in 1961 and never saw his masterpiece finished.

👇 Would YOU ride the little pod tram 630 feet up? Tell us!

Cross Country Diaries • Final Day

One last adventure before Kentucky!

I had already driven across the country, stopped for every National Park and weird roadside attraction I could fit in, and I still had one more place on my list.

Gateway Arch National Park. ✨

It’s massive in person, and such a fun final stop to stretch my legs after days of watching the country change through my windows.

Then it was back in the car.

No more side quests.

Next stop: my new life in Kentucky. 🤍

After completing my visit to the renovated Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis, I still had plenty of time before my next meeting, so there was only one logical thing to do…⁣
⁣
Stroll across the street to The Arch!⁣
⁣
Not to go up again; I’d just done that—instead it was to just walk around the grounds of Gateway Arch National Park to snap some pictures and enjoy the artistic beauty of The Arch. 🤩😍⁣

The sky was wild today. It kept flipping back and forth… bright blue with big fluffy clouds to gray and ominous. Rain back to sun. You can see the contrast in front and behind my car as I drove in front of the Arch. The storm was following me. ⛈️☀️ #stl #gatewayarch #clouds #fyp #weather
