We’re taking over the Boston Public Library to celebrate Black Trans Boston. We need you there. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

On Thursday, October 29, we’re gathering for Oral History Live: Black Trans Boston, Queer History Boston’s flagship event for LGBTQ+ History Month. We want to fill the Boston Public Library’s largest auditorium with people to celebrate Black trans lives as they are here, with us, with stories to share.

We will hear from a panel of Black trans activists, movers, shakers, and makers: Justice Roe Williams, Rev. Louis J. Mitchell, Teasha Purdy, and Chastity Bowick-Hardgers; Moderated by Tre’Andre Carmel Valentine

Oral History Live: Black Trans Boston
Thurs, October 29, 2026 - 5:30 pm ET
BPL Central Library in Copley Square
Rabb Hall — Boylston Building, Lower Level
700 Boylston St., Boston, MA 02116

Why this matters:
Our history is alive because we are alive. Too often, Black trans history has been erased, overlooked, or told by other people. This night is about hearing directly from those who have lived, built, loved, organized, and transformed community here in Boston.

We’ll remember those who came before us, honor those carrying the work now, and imagine what we’re building for those to come. What gets remembered is what people show up for. A packed room is how we say, out loud and in public, that Black trans Boston is part of the record and will stay there.

Here’s how you can help:
- Come. Your presence is the whole point.
- Bring your people. Friends, family, chosen family, coworkers, your whole group chat.
- Bring your org. Tell your staff, your board, your volunteers, your members.
- Share it everywhere. Post the sign-up link, forward this email, and tell anyone who should be in that room.

Sign up, save the date, and send it to three people today.
We want every seat taken.

Let’s show up for Black trans Boston and take over the BPL. taken in Boston Public Library by @gbpflag

Simmons’ team hosted a bake sale and sold special pride shirts, raising over $400 for Greater Boston PFLAG.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for GBPFLAG’s screening of “The Dads” at the Capitol Theatre!

The film sparked a meaningful conversation about fatherhood, love, and allyship, and reminded us of the importance of showing up for trans and gender-expansive youth. A special thank you to our panel of GBPFLAG dads for sharing their experiences, and to everyone who joined the conversation. We’re grateful to have spent the evening together in support of trans youth and their families.

Thank you to the @capitol_theatre_arlington for hosting us! by @gbpflag

We are saddened by the passing of George Clattenburg, a longtime leader and volunteer whose dedication helped shape Greater Boston PFLAG.
Alongside his wife, Alice, George helped establish the Concord PFLAG support group and played a key role in building the organization we know today. From helping lead the early Safe Schools Project to securing our first office and welcoming our first staff member, George's contributions left a lasting impact.
George also shared his experiences as a parent and ally with students, educators, and families, helping others better understand and support their loved ones.
We are incredibly grateful for George's years of service, his commitment to our community, and the many ways he led with love. He will be deeply missed. by @gbpflag

Today @ 6:30 p.m. at @capitol_theatre_arlington
204 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA 02474

Inspired by the Emmy-Award winning short documentary of the same name (Netflix, 2023), The Dads follows fathers of trans and nonbinary children forced to choose between country and family amid a shifting political landscape. Filmed over the course of a year—from quiet retreats in rural Maine and Minnesota to protests, family milestones, a pivotal U.S. Supreme Court decision, and the collapse of gender-affirming care—the film captures a moment of national reckoning with striking intimacy. Directed by Emmy Award winning filmmaker Luchina Fisher @luchinafisher and executive produced by Dwyane Wade, this is a powerful portrait of fatherhood as an act of radical love and resistance.

After the screening of THE DADS, stay for a Talk Back with a panel of Greater Boston PFLAG dads. They’ll share their own experiences raising trans and gender-expansive kids, and we’ll open it up for a real conversation about family, courage, and community.
