We’re taking over the Boston Public Library to celebrate Black Trans Boston. We need you there. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ On Thursday, October 29, we’re gathering for Oral History Live: Black Trans Boston, Queer History Boston’s flagship event for LGBTQ+ History Month. We want to fill the Boston Public Library’s largest auditorium with people to celebrate Black trans lives as they are here, with us, with stories to share. Too often, Black trans history has been erased, overlooked, or told by other people. This night is about hearing directly from those who have lived, built, loved, organized, and transformed community here in Boston. We’ll remember those who came before us, honor those carrying the work now, and imagine what we’re building for those to come. What gets remembered is what people show up for. A packed room is how we say, out loud and in public, that Black trans Boston is part of the record and will stay there. Here’s how you can help: - Come. Your presence is the whole point. - Bring your people. Friends, family, chosen family, coworkers, your whole group chat. - Bring your org. Tell your staff, your board, your volunteers, your members. - Share it everywhere. Post the sign-up link, forward this email, and tell anyone who should be in that room. Sign up, save the date, and send it to three people today. We want every seat taken. Let’s show up for Black trans Boston and take over the BPL.

“Trans people have always been here, and we will always be here. We can’t be erased so please stop trying.” - @alia.cusolito In the face of state-sponsored discrimination against LGBTQ and especially transgender and non-binary youth in states across the nation from Arkansas to Florida to Texas, the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth responded with state-sponsored love and affirmation. On International Transgender Day of Visibility, we stood united as a community on the steps of the State House to declare that LGBTQ people will not be erased. @masslgbtqyouth @gbpflag @bagly_inc @alia.cusolito @queeryouthassemble #protecttranskids #transkids #tdov #tdov2022 #lgbtqrights #genderspecialist #bostonlgbtq #transdayofvisibility #transvisibility #ally #transally

We are especially looking for interested people of color, transgender, non-binary people, and younger speakers. The training will focus on valuable skills such as setting the right tone, shaping and telling a story, overcoming fear, working with your co-speaker, and answering difficult questions. We have been heartbroken to see government actions around the nation targeting trans youth. Still, we know trans youth (and their families) are strong and resilient. We want you to know that we've got your back. Check out this message from Old South Church clergy and staff.
