What happens when hands from Spartanburg, South Carolina, poured seeds and life into the earth, and the family makes it to a Detroit runway?🙏🏽🌾🪴🪡♻️🏦

Rooted in legacy. Grown with love. Blessed to bloom.

This one is for my great grandfather, for Black farmers, and for my grandmother, who brought her farming skills to Detroit and gave, sold, and traded all she grew. Their hands are in every stitch.

Day 1 of the Detroit Black Film Festival was everything last night — filmmakers, writers, producers, and enthusiasts alike, all showing up to tell their stories. Today is Day 2, and it’s not too late to grab your tickets or your pass and support these efforts to bring amazing creators from all over the world — and from our own backyard.

My kiddos had a blast interviewing folks and hearing how so many just did the thing. Blessed to be around people creating great work. I seeing more and more this life is bigger than me it to Forster and create spaces and opportunities for others 🎬✨

In collaboration with Design Core Detroit, eight local fashion designers came together to showcase their beautiful designs at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Sept. 19 during Detroit Month of Design.

During the Moving Fashion Forward show, we saw garments inspired by the historic venue, featuring elaborate patterns, some reminiscent of stained glass, bejeweled crosses, and more.

The event was put together by Mila Mara Agency, a designer who also presented her own stunning collection for the show.
