New hand-lettered wordmark Swipe for notes ➛ Testing legibility at various sizes. The heavy weight of the P draws the eye to primary read. Stem is light not to overload. ‘a’ and ‘e’ counters filled for legibility at small sizes. ‘m’ given more weight to improve legibility by emphasising end of first syllable. ‘r’ is second heaviest weight to bookend/ balance and hold the eye. One of many, many roughs. Final mark less playful and no overlapping letterforms for max legibility Chisel vs round tip weights. The game with a script logo is always trying to balance flair and flow w legibility. Retaining the feeling of the gesture is the biggest challenge. Refinement and finishing Softening negative space for a softer, more printed look Evolution of Visual ID. 2012: reflected my focus on producing the most ‘dialled in’ and refined work I could make. My guiding force was Reynold Stone/ Doyald Young etc. 2026: reflects a looser, freer approach, the broadening of my practice and focus on greater authorship. Guiding principles: perfection is unlovable. Human. Test for a project I’m working on with @uplf_lunette Thanks for looking 👀❤️ by @gedpalmer

Branding & signage for @theshaston.arms in Soho. The clients showed exceptional taste choosing the script option I drew for the frontage…Not something you see much of these days. Burnished drop shadow in 24crt gold was the real peach, creating a 3D effect that catches the light beautifully. The logomark reimagined heraldic elements of the crest of the Earl of Shaftesbury to which the pub owes its name, paired with a Tuscan/ Lombardic custom logotype which was tailored for various usages. All in all a nice classic look that has some class and tradition but doesn’t look like it’s trying too hard. Thanks for looking, let me know what you think in the comments :) 🧡✌️ taken in Soho, London UK by @gedpalmer

Bespoke Logotype under construction for @theshaston.arms #London It’s been a delight to work on the branding and frontage with the team on this flagship Soho venue. I’ll show some more sketches and developments work but these vectors show the construction underlying the finished bespoke letterforms. From here I will go back in and soften the counters and swashes but I wanted to show how it looks all nicely dialled in before we give it a bit more printed, worn look. Thanks for looking ✌️🧡 • • • #lettering #logo #logotype #branding #restaurantbranding #pub #handdrawn#customtype #handpainted #handpaintedsigns #signpainting #signwriting #peintureenlettres #gilding #goldleafsigns #goldleaf #gildedpanel #signrestorstion #handmadefont #handdrawntype #typography #customtype #calligraphy #design #type #strengthinletters #hangingsign #signshop #london #theluminorsignco @thedailytype @typematters @goodtype @handmadefont @betype @typetopia @callligraphymasters @london @thedesigntip @designinspiration @calligritype @typedaily @type.gang @letteringdaily @typeverything @ifyouhigh @type.wip @typeworship @lettering_co @betype @artworkersguild @letter_exchange @letteringartstrust @heritagetype @type_of_london @typespire @typism @typedirectorsclub @1shot @ashandover taken in Soho, London UK by @gedpalmer
