BOOK REVIEW!

*Thank you to @bethany_house_nonfiction and @bakerpublishinggroup for the complimentary copy of The Abiding Way by @jeanineamapola All opinions expressed are my own.*

I can get pretty picky when it comes to a devotional. They may be short daily readings, but I want them to pack a punch. This devotional delivers!

Each day begins with a scripture verse, followed by the devotional section. Interspersed within those are Pause and Reflect sections, and the devotional ends with a prayer and some reflection questions.

I like how this devotional also focuses on the gospel of John, one of my favorite books of the Bible.

Full of insight and personal stories, this devotional will help you learn to abide in Christ. ❤️

Do you like reading devotionals?

It’s cloudy and windy…a bit of rain and falling temps.

Dare I say, a great fall day?

So here are some of my fall essentials today - great movie, a cozy blanket and matching mug, a nice smelling candle, a fun squishy and an atmospheric book!

What are your plans today or this weekend?

BOOK REVIEW!

*Thank you to @uplitreads , @thomasnelsonfiction , and @stefaniekoens for a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*

I "felt anew the thrill of history's heartbeat, able to pulse through centuries."

This book reminded me why I like to read historical fiction books so much. Not only do they make historical events come alive, but they may also introduce you to an event you've never heard of. That's what happened in this case for me.

I had never heard of the Batavia shipwreck before, but after reading this book, my interest was piqued. It was a fascinating and tragic event, full of atrocities that I still can't believe human beings committed.

In Daughters of the Wreckage, the author takes us on a dual timeline journey - 2018 with Tess, who is not only trying to finish an article her dad started about the Batavia, but also trying to connect her heritage to someone who was on board - and 1628, when the Batavia was shipwrecked and what happened to the survivors on the islands afterward.

Be forewarned there are parts of this story that are heavy, with mentions of SA and r*pe (not actually on the page) and violence/murder. (I didn't personally feel like it was too graphic, but if you're sensitive to that kind of stuff, be forewarned.)

While I liked both timelines, I found myself drawn to the 1628 timeline and became enveloped in the story. I also enjoyed the foreshadowing and the ending where I could think back to the story and see where the foreshadowing happened and it made certain scenes make sense!

At times I did get a bit confused with some of the names and had to flip to the front part of the book to look at the list of names, but overall, I kept up pretty well. I feel like you need to focus and pay attention to really understand everything that's going on in the story, so audiobook might not be the best for this book - I read the paperback.

I read this book in a day, and the story will stick with me for a long time. Now, off to watch a documentary on it!!

I was 13 when I went to my first concert. ❤️

These concerts don't even show the wide mixture of music I listen to lol.

Along with your first concert, what was your favorite concert?

BOOK REVIEW!

*Thank you to @bookedwiththeemilys and @courtneynjohnsonwrites for a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*

"Everything looks perfect, but I've learned that in Blackwood Grove, perfection is just a costume."

I don't normally read a lot of YA, but Beneath Blackwood sounded so intriguing that I decided to give it a try.

This book did not go in the direction I was anticipating at all, so it was a bit hard to get into for me at first, however, a little over the halfway mark I got invested in the story and the mystery.

Combine a story full of town politics, hierarchy, and secrets mixed with a couple love interests, and fall aesthetic, and you got yourself a book as juicy as an apple!

Beneath Blackwood will have you questioning everything and everyone!

And the twist at the end...well, there is a sequel coming, right? RIGHT?

If you're interested in:

Title: Side Effects
Genre: Literary Fiction
Subgenre: Romance
Level: Clean (no foul language, no spice)
Release Date: January 7, 2027

———————————————————————————————————————

Side Effects by @erica.m.sherlock is not a sequel! It is a standalone novel in Quick and Quinn’s world. Through Quick and Quinn is the first book in the interconnected series, but both can be read as standalone novels.

Psychological warfare can take quite the toll on families, even the ones with the strongest foundations, and especially when husband and wife find themselves on opposite sides of the fence.

Stay tuned to follow Lila and David, as their strong marriage gets put to the test by outside forces and unexpected trials.

Expect swoon, banter, and tears of all kinds!

In a gripping novel that pits the fortitude of true love against modern family struggles and societal psychological warfare, Sherlock once again says the quiet parts out loud.

BOOK REVIEW!

"Filming consumed my memories for most of my childhood years. Life felt less and less like a childhood. It felt like a series of itineraries."

"Being free from a place doesn't mean you're free from what it did to you."

Collin Gosselin has made some amazing progress in his healing journey, but the way he describes his childhood is just soul crushing. He went through some horrendous things, that no child should ever have to go through, and this is one of the saddest and most heartbreaking memoirs I've ever read.

I just want to give that little boy I remember seeing on Jon & Kate Plus 8 a big hug and tell him he's loved and wanted and not a burden.

This was a tough read and I shed many tears. Thank you, @collingosselin1 , for being vulnerable and strong and sharing your story. You are seen.

*Trigger warnings: physical, mental, verbal, and emotional abuse and neglect.*
