🚨 BOOKISH PSA: DON'T FORGET TO CLAIM YOUR TWO FREE OCTOBER BOOKS BEFORE THE MONTH ENDS! AND SHARE THIS WITH OTHERS SO THEY CAN CLAIM THEIRS TOO!🚨

📚 Prime members, are you claiming your FREE books every month? Because if not, we need to talk. 😂

Amazon has a little perk called Amazon First Reads, and I had absolutely no idea it existed until someone told me about it about a year ago. All those free books I could have been claiming! 😭📚

So, in case you're also out here paying for Prime and missing out on free books, let me share the good news!

Every month, Amazon offers a selection of upcoming books across different genres, and Prime members can choose free Kindle books before their official release.

And this October, you get to claim TWO free books instead of the usual one! 🎉📖

A few things you should know:
📚 They're yours to keep. These aren't library loans. Once you claim them, they stay in your Kindle library.
📱 No Kindle required. You can read them on your phone, tablet, or computer using the free Kindle app.
💸 No extra subscription. It's included with your Amazon Prime membership.
🔄 New books every month. More chances to add to that ever-growing TBR pile. Because apparently, we need more books we might not get around to reading anytime soon. 😂

So, if you have Prime, go check it out!

This benefit isn't available in all countries but checking won't cost you a thing.

“The Eve a Saint First Raced” is officially out now!

The north is dark. The sun cannot rise. Holidays never come. Not while tyrant Queen Brumal keeps it so, hoarding power over the winds. Air currents answer to those who can ride them fastest. And the speed of the witch’s flying sleigh has never been challenged.

Until now.

One fateful December night, Kristopher Clark tumbles into the wintry realm where tundra beasts prance, a burning Star roves unchecked, and the cheery smallfolk people face extinction under Brumal’s eternal eve. The icy witch has stolen his dear daughter, Lilianne, and whisked her far from their London home.

To both rescue Lilianne and free his new friends, Clark must best Brumal in a perilous race. But a racer needs a sleigh, valiant beasts to pull it, and a strong will to tame them. Clark, a browbeaten coach driver, lost his own inner faith long ago. To outmatch Brumal, he must find it again.

This is the most important race of Clark’s life. And it might just transform him into a saintly Christmas legend!

Please consider purchasing paperbacks directly from the author on Angola Hone’s website!

I wrote “The Eve a Saint First Raced” with the idea to make the chapters count down to Christmas! Twenty-four chapters as an advent calendar. 🗓️

Thank you to the beta readers, ARC reviewers, and general cheerleaders who supported “The Eve a Saint First Raced.” You guys are fantastic! 🙌🏻

Remember adventure, and may your hearthhearts burn brightly this Christmas! 💙🔥

📚 Bookshelf Scavenger Hunt 📚
Idea (and the full list of categories!) borrowed from @book.chats.with.jacki - thank you inspiring me with this fun one! Here’s what I found on my shelves - the book and the story behind it:

A Book Cover I Love — Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
This cover might be my favorite on my whole shelf. The soft cloth binding with the anatomical hearts scattered across it is such a brilliant visual metaphor for the story. I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read it yet, but longtime followers already know: this is my all-time favorite book.

A brilliant but reckless scientist assembles a living being from dead flesh, only to abandon his creation in horror — setting off a tragic chain of events that asks who the real monster is.

A Book That Made Me Cry — Report from Ground Zero by Dennis Smith
Ironic that I chose this one right as the 25th anniversary is coming up — that wasn’t on purpose, but as soon as I saw it on my shelf, I knew it was the one. Nonfiction holds a special place in my heart, and this book reached my soul.

Retired NYC firefighter Dennis Smith reported to Ground Zero immediately after the towers fell, staying for weeks alongside police and rescue workers. This is his eyewitness account of the search, the losses, and the stories of the 343 firefighters - many of them his friends - who never came home.

An Auto Buy Author — Harlan Coben, Gone for Good
Coben is an auto-buy for me, no question. He’s the master of ambiance, suspense, and character development — I got thoroughly attached to his characters from book one and never looked back. I gasp, I belly laugh, I yell at the book like the characters can hear me. He’s brilliant.

Will Klein’s older brother Ken vanished eleven years ago as the prime suspect in his ex-girlfriend’s murder — until Will finds proof that Ken is alive, unraveling a chain of revelations that force him to confront the truth about his brother, and himself.

A Book With My Favorite Color Scheme — Fairylore: A Compendium of the Fae Folk
Choosing a book on color alone was honestly the hardest find on this whole list. I’ve always countered “don’t judge a book by its cover” with “they wouldn’t make the

My thoughts
For someone like myself who is not well travelled at all, I found the backpacking/ travelling aspect really interesting. I loved hearing about the places seen and the people met.
Noah was an interesting guy, longing for adventure, but completely walked over by so many people. I really didn't like Rachel, her family, or his family. I thought they were all completely obnoxious and snobbish.
Phoebe was interesting, at times I really liked her, her attitude to life and her future success was inspiring, but then she would completely overreact to something and came across as quite unstable.
I would have liked to have known what came next for Noah - I had visions of his subterfuge being discovered and him losing all opportunities, but the book ends before we see any of this, I think this was a missed opportunity to fully explore his change of character by seeing how he handled this kind of thing.
It's a quick read, I finished it in 2 sittings over 24hours. The cover is vibrant. It's a different story to what I normally read and overall it was quite enjoyable.

Synopsis

Noah Pérez, a third-year architecture student convinced he’s starring in God’s favorite sitcom, believes he’s planned the perfect anniversary surprise: a romantic trip to Barcelona for his girlfriend Rachel Segreto. The goal? To reconnect with his Sephardic roots and reignite their relationship before graduation. But then, Rachel’s family invites him to their annual Amalfi Coast getaway at the last minute—ruining his anniversary plans.

When he tries to convince Rachel to pick Barcelona over Amalfi, she views it as being forced to choose between her relationship and her family. With the Segreto family’s reputation already a source of tension for their relationship, it all eventually leads to a painful breakup.

Heartbroken but still determined, Noah sets off on the trip alone and finds himself in a world of hostels and backpackers. That’s where he meets Phoebe, a British entrepreneur who plans to open a café in Portugal. Her fearless approach to life prompts Noah to blurt out an impulsive lie: that he’ll be in The Algarve for her grand opening, even though he’s due back home for senior year. If he stays in Europe, he risks sacrificing what he worked hard for in school. But if he returns home, he risks giving up the “everything” he always wanted to find.
