🥉WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PODIUM… I CAN’T BELIEVE IT

This one means everything.

Every training session. Every setback. Every doubt I had to push through. Standing on that podium, representing everything I’ve worked for and my country - I felt all the emotions.

To make it to a World Championships podium was a dream. It still brings tears to my eyes reliving the moment.

🥉in the World ❤️🇬🇧 (Long Distance Aquabike).

One week on from one of the best weekends in my racing career and I’ve finally managed to process it all.

Flight delays, rebooking hotels and car rentals, it was all very stressful in the build up. Race day came and I had some issues with my bike which luckily I’d arrived early in transition to fix. With a strong current in the swim, I broke it down to a good pace with the current and then a hard effort against it, I wanted to be out in under an hour, came out at 58 minutes. Next it was the bike, after leaving T1 within a few minutes I had a mechanical, pulling over to fix it I lost about two minutes but stayed calm and got myself back into the race. I felt good going into lap 1 and 2, lap 3 I was starting to lose my head, I got myself over the finish line somehow and racked my bike. It was a gentle jog down the blue carpet to soak up the atmosphere and it wasn’t until I saw my name pop up with the🥉next to it! I couldn’t believe it, I screamed and cheered so loud. I’d done it, a podium on the world stage 🫶
I stuck to my race plan, I knew this would be a hard day but I stayed focused for the majority and pushed myself. There’s so many people to thank and that will come in my next post 😍

And off we go 🏁 Aquathlon, OWS, Aquathlon 🏊🏻‍♀️🏃‍♀️

These races definitely help switch the body and mind back into race mode. They’re a great reminder of how to actually race, get the nerves going, iron out the little issues… and apparently, test my memory! 😂

Race 1 - forgot my race belt 🤭 Thankfully, a fellow athlete came to the rescue! 🙌 @matty_green_09 👏

Then completely forgot to, not only, lap my watch after my swim for T1 but then to actually start it for the run 🤦‍♀️

Race 2/Day 2 Surely I’d have it all together by now?
Nope. Completely forgot my race belt AND my number!

Luckily, hero hubby was there to save the day and pass over my belt and managed to figure it all out mid run 🤪

But wait, forgot the watch again 🤣

What a summer/winter! 🏑 ☀️ 🌧️

13 games of hockey in 7 weeks, jumping in to help out the Ressies, lots of laughs (mainly at me for my two mishaps 🤪) plenty of running, diving, lost skin and extra lumps on the knuckles (still refuse to wear a glove).

So grateful for my teammates and so proud both teams made finals, go and smash it ladies 💙💛

Just received my qualification email for the T100 World Championships in Qatar! 🇶🇦🙌

I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to represent the GB Age Group team once again, in a different distance and pull on the GB kit on the world stage. It’s always a privilege, can’t wait to get stuck into the preparation for this one☝️

The wait is finally over, after 4yrs I finally have an answer to my leg pain when cycling/running (mainly running).

Today, after many tests, it’s been confirmed that I have been suffering with External Iliac Artery Endofibrosis (EIAE).

In short this is a condition that restricts the blood flow to the lower limbs, in my case my right leg. The Doctors pinpointed exactly where the issue is and it’s in my hip which could be from the increased kms and my aggressive position on the bike that’s just had too much strain on the artery there.

Unfortunately the only answer is surgery, pretty invasive surgery with a harvested vein from my leg to then insert into the artery to widen and increase the blood flow again.

This is something I will be doing at some point in the future, but for now I plan to continue my training and preparations for the World and European Championships.

I’m so grateful that I can still compete at a high level, when the time is right I will go under the knife and ready to take on another recovery programme.

What a weekend in Spain for the European Championships! 🇪🇸

A demanding race against some of the best athletes in Europe. From the horn to the finish line, it was all about staying focused, racing smart, and leaving everything out on the course.

Having a strong swim, I came 2nd out of the water and felt confident going onto the amazing rolling bike course. A few challenging elements but powered up them, kept to my nutrition plan and maintained my race position going out onto the run.

Now it was all about time, how long will my leg hold up? how long between me and the next athlete behind me? Into the final 4km and the leg numbness started and it was just survive and finish, falling back to 5th I just hoped I could hold this to the finish 🙌 Crossing that finish line and seeing I’d held 5th I was super happy with and proud of my performance.

Grateful I can still race and what a great course it was.
