Tonight is Patrick’s last night here at Gemini.

I (Truman) hired Patrick a decade ago to be apart of the opening crew at the @hopperandburr brick and mortar. He was a teenage surfer kid who ate plain baked potatoes for dinner and tattooed himself in his free time. He was also full of passion, eager to lean, and one of the hardest workers I’ve ever know. Over the next ten years he has helped to build up every one of my companies, helping establish the culture, hospitality, and ethos at the Burr. He helped build @pioneer.cm from well before day one, bringing his work ethic and positivity and making those things foundational to that bar.

His work here at Gemini is comprehensive. Every single thing we do here, from the wines we buy, how we taste them, the way we speak about them, how we serve them, are all directly because of the way Patrick does those things.

Watching Patrick grow from a teenage barista into a craftsman, a leader, and a husband has been among the greatest highlights of my career. I’m proud to have had the privilege of working alongside him for the last ten years and I cannot want to see him continue to grow.

Wednesday! Join us at Gemini for a screening of a classic samurai flick. I will unpack the alliterative mistranslation of “jidaigeki” in a short introduction. Then we will drink some Japanese wine, soak up some violent images, and hang out afterward to talk all things Kurosawa, Gosha, Misumi, etc etc etc ⚔️
