Everyday Inspo for Design — Series 5: Opulence

For me, opulence isn’t about being loud — it’s about warmth, richness, and those small, intentional details that bring depth into a space.
Pattern, velvet, metallic accents, shadow… these quiet layers create softness and sophistication at the same time.

I’ve always loved how materials shift a mood — how a single metallic highlight or a bold pattern can transform the feeling of an interior.

This time two months ago, we (@ninacampbellltd) visited the @soanemuseum and were guided around by Will Gompertz, the museum’s director, and Helen Dorey, its deputy director, who has been helping to care for and maintain the museum for 30+ years. It was fascinating to learn about the history of Sir John Soane and to experience the space firsthand. The way John plays with light, thresholds, and colour is truly remarkable, and as a designer, I will definitely be taking a page out of his book.

The trip truly opened my eyes to past designs - something we don’t often explore in depth at university - but it’s essential not only to understand the present, but also to learn from the past and where inspiration originates.

Excited to share that I am a finalist for the Emerging Talent awards at the Surface Design Show @surfacethinking, taking place on the 4th of February.

I designed SYDN — a project that explores light as a mobile companion. Drawing on stainless steel structures developed during my MA in @rca_interiordesign at the @royalcollegeofart, SYDN reimagines rigid architectural elements as a flexible, rechargeable, and water-resistant lighting object. Designed to move with the body, it reflects contemporary modes of living shaped by adaptability, informality, and constant transition.
