One year ago, a dream of mine became a book.

A year of seeing my name on a cover.

A year of someone other than me reading a piece of me.

A year of opening up to the world.

A year of dreaming bigger than ever.

A year of calling myself an author/poet 🧿

A year of holding hope in my hands, pages bleeding with my emotions.

Thank you to each one of you who clapped for me, remembered me in your prayers, and sent me wishes and love. I couldn't thank you enough. This one year of happiness would not have been possible without you, my readers. ❤️🧿
Love,
Génie

I was talking in pauses,
my words tiptoeing around your silence,
the language of echoes
pulsing through my heart.

The photographer in me can't ignore the beauty around me, and the poet can't help adorning it with words.
My gallery is full of pictures (not of me, of course), and I don't like posting them just like that.
So this time I took a little time to write something over them and share them as a carousel.
I hope you all like my little effort. ✨

Without my madness,
I would be painfully ordinary!

Picked up The Myth of Sisyphus on my way out of a bookstore, for Camus and, of course, the cover. I have a weakness for mysterious covers.

Eleven pages in, with a few of them read twice, I closed it. Somewhere in there the thought came: life is simple. It doesn't take brilliant minds to decode it, and a basic rule can be understood in one basic line, even by a basic mind like mine.

So this one goes back on the shelf, until the day I want a little complication in my life.

I wanted to read John Steinbeck since East of Eden has been in talks, and somehow Of Mice and Men showed up in my suggestions.

It's a good read, but the ending stayed with me. I'm still thinking: was there any other choice for George to save Lennie?
And if Lennie could have held his impulse just a little, what would have happened?

Reading Freida McFadden after a long time. Not a fan, but I can read her.

What worked:
short chapters, a story that keeps moving, and a small cast, which is great for someone who's bad with names. The plot keeps you guessing, and you enjoy the little thrill she builds all the way to the end.

What didn't:
the psychiatric ward setting brings plenty of eerie atmosphere, but not many real jump moments, and sometimes nothing much happens. Characters lose the plot, and the protagonist behaves foolishly for a medical student.
These things annoy me in thrillers.
The twist is good, though.

A good read for those with low expectations. Mine were a little higher 😂 by @genie_inthebotttle

📖 Under the Eye of the Big Bird by Hiromi Kawakami

Slow reading is no crime. 🐌 I've been a sloth these past few weeks, and forgot to post too. Jokes apart, this is the 3rd book in a row I've finished this month. The other two are coming soon!

As for this one... it's a strange book. Set in a dystopian era where humans are factory made, and even the food they eat is factory made. I'm still thinking about the writer's wild imagination. That kind of imagination always fascinates me.

It raises so many questions while you read, which is exactly why I love dystopian reads. They give my imagination wings too. ✨

A good read, but not for everyone. Do read the synopsis before picking it up, so you know what you're getting into.

📚 Have you read it? Tell me your thoughts below.

Thankyou @drseema_ak for this beautiful book 📚 I loved it 🧿❤️😘
