Cabochons are the oldest form of polished stones for jewelry. Faceting was not developed until the 1300s in Europe. This bouquet of stones is the beginning of shaping and polishing. No, my rocks are not tumbled, they are cut and polished into a variety of shapes and sizes.
Did someone say GOLD? I have begun to use gold in some of my jewelry. This is a hand cut and polished piece of covellite from Butte, Montana and it is encased in 18k gold with sterling silver and 14k gold accents.
This and more will be available for purchase at the MCA Cube this weekend September 26th and 27th from 10 am to 5 pm.
I'll also be bringing a machine so visitors can try their hand at polishing a rock. Bring your friends and family and we'll talk rocks! by @geoart_studio

This is a hand carved and polished red jasper ring that will be at the MCA Cube on this weekend as part of the Central Park Artists Open Studio tour.
The ring band is hand engraved by a Nevada Native American jeweler in the 1950s or 1960s. by @geoart_studio

This Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm is the annual Central Park Artists Open Studios held at various locations throughout Denver's Central Park neighborhood. There will be thirteen stops and twenty-nine artists will be participating. AND I'm one of them! I'll be at the MCA Cube located at 8371 E Northfield Blvd. I'll bring my one of a kind hand made jewelry and will have a lapidary set up so visitors can try their hand at polishing a rock. taken in Northeast, Denver by @geoart_studio

Canyon jasper always feels like holding a landscape in your hands. The layered patterns and earthy tones in this stone reminded me of canyon walls shaped over centuries, so I wanted the setting to feel just as intentional. I hand carved and polished the jasper, paired it with carefully selected beads, and built a handcrafted silver bezel to frame the stone while still letting its natural character take center stage.
Every detail of this necklace was shaped by hand — from refining the stone to forming the bezel and balancing the beadwork. I love the process of working with materials that already carry so much history, then turning them into something wearable and lasting. No two stones are ever alike, which makes every piece completely one of a kind.

I formed this cuff by hand, shaping and bending the silver while working in the pattern along the way. It’s a process of constant adjustment—finding the right curve, the right tension—so it feels solid but still comfortable to wear. The pattern catches the light just enough, giving the piece a quiet depth without overpowering it.

For the stone, I chose a piece of candy rock jasper that had just the right movement and color. I carved it by hand to fit the cuff, letting its natural patterns lead the way. Bringing it all together, the piece feels grounded, bold, and completely one of a kind.

I made this chain by hand, soldering each link one by one—and honestly, this piece taught me a lot in the process. Working with heat around stone always feels like a risk, and I wasn’t sure how it would go. But the beads held. They didn’t shatter, didn’t crack—just stayed solid through it all, which felt like a small win I won’t forget.

The faceted fire agate bead at the center catches the light with deep, shifting tones—a bold focal point that makes the whole piece feel grounded and alive.
