Takashi Murakami’s Superflat Manifesto, conceived in 2000, bridges historical Japanese art with modern anime aesthetics, highlighting Japan’s cultural shift post-WWII. Rooted in his passion for manga and anime, Murakami views these mediums as integral to Japanese identity and artistic innovation. He credits Hayao Miyazaki’s influence, describing Japan’s “flatness” as a unifying cultural trait across art and society. Today, the global rise of manga and anime affirms Murakami’s foresight, with platforms like Netflix championing the genre. Murakami’s commitment to Superflat endures, symbolizing Japan’s vibrant yet layered cultural narrative.

Meet my mom Beverly! She’s our lead jewelry designer, as well as an army veteran, biomedical researcher, teacher, non-profit leader, mother and grandmother who has been an avid collector of rocks for 60+ years.

She’s also the reason Waystone exists!

When I got married, I picked up some rocks from Chief Hosa Lodge for my mom to turn into necklaces for my bridesmaids.

My bridesmaids adored them, and together with my dad, we started hatching a plan to make a company where someone could send any stone and have it made into beautiful, custom jewelry.

A lot of our designs are based on jewelry my mom has made (like these rings that we’re hoping to launch soon)!

If you have a request for your jewelry order that would entail custom silversmithing or lapidary (stone shaping), we will send you to Beverly and her studio @geoart_studio.

She takes commissions for custom jewelry, and sells her jewelry at local markets. You can find her on Etsy at etsy.com/shop/geoartstudio.

Thanks for everything, mom. 💕
