Food’s always been in the mix for me. My dad, Michael Bateman, was the OG in British food writing – so I grew up on a steady diet of stories about kitchens, ingredients, and the people behind them. It stuck.

Since then, I’ve made a career out of telling food stories – not just mine, but the ones that deserve to be heard. From casual bites to fine dining, I’ve worked with restaurants, chefs, hotels, and brands across the UK, Australia, Spain, Dubai, Japan and Bali. Building profiles, shaping narratives, and bringing a bit of soul into the spotlight.

Paella, good wine, and a story worth telling - three of my great loves. I’ve spent years helping chefs and brands find their voice, but the thing that keeps me hooked? Figuring out what makes something really special, and then telling that story in a way people actually want to hear - through the press, a juicy collab, or getting the right mix of people in the room.

I sat down with Georgia Bateman, a restaurant PR specialist with 15 years of experience across the UK, Australia, Spain and Bali, to talk about what happens behind the scenes of restaurant marketing and PR.

We talked about influencers vs. PR, how to market a new restaurant, what to do when someone leaves a bad review, how to make restaurant social media feel like an actual person made it, and why the best marketing might start with your neighbours rather than your Instagram followers.

But the part I kept noticing from our talk was this:

Good PR isn’t about inventing a story. It’s about finding the story that already exists and making sure the right people hear it.

Congratulations my dear friends @my_dear_clara (the family behind @kala.uluwatu ) you’ve done it again. 👏🏼

@_farkhodovich_ has nailed another epic menu. Italian-inspired with an in-house cheese factory (yes, really), hand-pulled pasta and crispy Roman-style pizza.

Serious food, gorgeous space, cocktails that hit just right, and, as always, plenty of fun thrown in.

Add drawing on tables with crayons between courses and we’ll never want to leave … Spent half the night sipping wine and colouring in like five-year-olds.

Uluwatu is lucky to have you. We love you @my_dear_clara 🤍

Highlights from the incredible Shelter Sessions Vol. 12 with @chefelijahholland @inarebali X @stevesumoore @frantxo23 @shelter.pererenan

Watching the chefs prep over the last few months has been a proper adventure with the stories of spearfishing, and foraging right on our doorstep in Pererenan to testing dishes over coals… cooking stripped back to its most honest, primitive form. It’s this exact passion and connection to nature that led me to working with chefs in the first place and why I love my job so much.

Getting involved in the masterclass was very fun too. As a self-proclaimed paella addict, I got to throw down some moves, but my gawdddd... that Wood-Fired Black Rice Paella with calamari, tuna, aioli and water spinach salsa verde completely blew my mind 🤤🔥

I’ve stayed before and I’ll stay again… there is nothing quite as magical as checking back into @lyvin.melasti . Staying in a huge villa overlooking the Uluwatu coast, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that open up completely to let the sea breeze in, and epic panoramic views for sunrise and sunset.

The interiors are a gorgeous mix of Japanese simplicity and Scandinavian functionality, featuring honed Sulawesi marble floors and custom teak furniture… AND you can drink the tap water! I only left the villa once in 45 hours for a quick @studio.fondue pilates class and a @thirsttrapdrip smoothie fix.

Great to finally get my hands on a print version of the mini newspaper that @aniaa_pozniaak and I spent a long time curating too. It features an interview with the outspoken architect Popo Danes, a Bali summer event calendar, @iwayan.mahesa top 5 Indonesian creatives, the world of @putu_wiranatha @kurakurabeer tales, our guide for 72 hours in Uluwatu, and a love letter to Babi Guling 🐷… You’ll just have to stay at one of the @lyvin.bali properties to read it!

Some places have a way of slowing time. @lareserve1785 is one of them.

Designed by the wonderfully talented @laure.juhen , this beautiful maison is full of stories where French romance meets the soul of Bali. Endlessly creative, Laure has a rare gift for finding beauty in every detail; not only in design, but in the way she lives.

Hidden amongst regenerative forest in Pererenan, @lareserve1785 is worlds away from the bustle of Canggu. Breakfasts begin with warm starters of French bread and pastries, a cute little buggy took me to check the surf, and afternoons are best spent in the beautifully designed spa with Ayu.

Community is everything. 🤍

A little celebration of Bali’s women in hospitality. We might make it look effortless, but trust me, there’s a lot of passion, graft, problem-solving and vibrant “we’ll sort it” energy going on behind the scenes.

Huge thanks to @golomuz for pulling this together as part of @nuanucreativecity Future of Food events, and to our brilliant international guests for joining us @myffyrigby @avriltreasure @claudebrito @thiteatee
The stories, ideas and honest chats were the perfect reminder that this industry is full of bloody brilliant people.

Of course, hospitality doesn’t happen without the big boys too. Massive shout out to chefs @stevesumoore and @frantxo23 , and the entire @shelter.pererenan team, for serving up an absolute belter of a menu, alongside some delicious @marigold.spirits cocktails and @lazaruspulp wines.

Cheers to backing each other, sharing the wins (and the kitchen disasters), building an even stronger hospitality community in Bali… and making sure there’s always another long lunch in the diary. 🥂

A few highlights from @nuanucreativecity Future of Food talks... ✨

Massive thanks to @golomuz for all her hard work and organisation to bring so many of Bali’s hospitality legends together. It was a very insightful day to say the least...

Special shoutout to @kieranmorland for joining me on stage and sharing your story with us all (and calming my nerves!). It’s great to see the industry coming together to discuss how we can work more with local producers, act sustainably on our favourite island, and shine a light on the food scene here in Bali.
