Where Berawa bends towards the beach, a new kind of hospitality is taking shape.

Opening this October, Etta The Place by Gibran Baydoun brings together dining, design, nightlife and 15 intimate rooms in one distinctly unhotel-like address. From its New York-inspired restaurant and street-facing coffee window to a rooftop pool bar and vinyl-led nights, Etta is designed as much for the neighbourhood as it is for those passing through.

A new place to eat, linger, stay and belong, arriving in Berawa on 6 October.

I sat down with Georgia Bateman, a restaurant PR specialist with 15 years of experience across the UK, Australia, Spain and Bali, to talk about what happens behind the scenes of restaurant marketing and PR.

We talked about influencers vs. PR, how to market a new restaurant, what to do when someone leaves a bad review, how to make restaurant social media feel like an actual person made it, and why the best marketing might start with your neighbours rather than your Instagram followers.

But the part I kept noticing from our talk was this:

Good PR isn’t about inventing a story. It’s about finding the story that already exists and making sure the right people hear it.

With love, from July.

I know I’m not the only one who feels overwhelmed and overjoyed at the same damn time by the sheer amount of things that have happened these past months 💨💨.

Seeing how much the industry has grown also made me question myself: How can I take part in this? How can I do something that feels meaningful?

But that afternoon, sitting down with these amazing women, reminded me of how much we can do together when we come together as a strong force and just how much love we share for food, culture, and hospitality.

I’m so looking forward to the next one. The next chapter, the next interesting conversation that sparks something (on and off the stage) the next delicious plate, and the next shared laugh.

Here’s to more of all of it. 🤍
