Incredible and surreal to see. I have envisioned the THIS IS ENDOMETRIOSIS project as public art for a long time, at @thisisendoglobal we even have billboard mock ups saved that look so similar to these. Thank you so deeply to @artichoketrust for making this dream a reality by selecting this photograph for #TheGalleryS4 exhibition alongside 10 other artworks, and to @bakulpatki for curating such a powerful collection of images on the theme #ARealWoman

Endometriosis is one of the most painful medical conditions in the world. It affects 1 in 10 born with a uterus, and yet so many of us feel alone. It's hard to imagine how different my life would have been for all of those years if #endometriosis had been discussed and represented publicly. To have known that my pain was real and that I was not alone, would have meant everything.

Endometriosis is drastically underfunded, under-researched and is dangerously misunderstood by the majority of doctors treating it. This is not good enough. We need to be seen, we need to be heard. This Is Endometriosis. #thisisendometriosis

Thank you so much to the Out Of Home partners of this @artichoketrust exhibition: @clearchanneluk @jcdecaux_uk @alightmedia @massmediaoutdoor @kbh_ooh @buildhollywood @outsmartooh

Trying to get my flat back in order before my worst pain days of the month hit, building works have turned everything upside down but took a break from dusting to get Bafta and Marilyn settled in ♥️ #endometriosis

Little poem scribbled on my shower notepad this morning and rewritten in my non shower note book and typed incase you can't read my scribbles.

Side note, there's an important petition by @sanjusticeuk to include conditions like endometriosis in the equality act, head to her page to find out more and sign ♥️

Accepting a #BAFTA for her short film This Is Endometriosis, Georgie Wileman was cheered on by a room full of A-listers wearing a symbolic blood-red gown emblazoned with ‘fund endometriosis research’, which had been especially designed by her brother Ralf Wileman.

The next day she was at home, doubled over in pain. This is the reality of living with endometriosis, a life-changing condition where cells similar to the lining of the uterus grow elsewhere on the body. Symptoms are often mischaracterised as ‘painful periods’, but as Wileman points out, ‘it’s a full body disease. It’s important for people to understand the severity of the pain – it’s widely considered to be worse than childbirth.’

The intention behind the film is simple: to spread awareness, demand better funding for research into the condition and for symptomatic pain to be taken seriously. Wileman hopes her BAFTA will open doors. ‘We have so many future plans for the This Is Endometriosis movement. We just want to keep spreading the word.’
