One more sleep! Honestly, I can’t believe it.

For the last two years, @carteblanchebeauty has taken up so much of my brain, my heart, my life. My days have been filled with two things: my family and building this brand. I fall asleep thinking about them, in that order, and then I wake up and do it all over again.

There have been thousands of decisions, so many versions, so many moments of wondering if we were getting it right. So much care poured into details most people will never even know existed. We made this with so much intention and we made it for you. And I mean truly, for you. I’ve thought about your days, your lives, your routines, your mental load, your skin, your time, what you need, what you simply don’t have time for. How the bottle will feel in your hand, how the formula will feel on your skin, how the name would represent both what the product does and the women we made it for. All of it, over and over and over.

And now, after holding it so close for so long, we’re about to let it go. In one day, this thing that has lived in our heads, our hands, our texts, our meetings, our kitchens, our flights, our late nights, our hearts and honestly, in nearly every corner of my life, is going to belong to all of you.

I don’t really know how to explain what that feels like. Equal parts terrifying, surreal, emotional and exhilarating. And I just hope you love it. Like, really really love it. And I hope it makes you feel beautiful.

One more sleep. ♥️ by @gerihirsch

The Carte Blanche launch party 🤍

You only get to launch once and when we started thinking about how we wanted to celebrate @carteblanchebeauty, we knew we wanted a really fun cocktail party. The kind where the music is good, the wine is flowing, everyone is talking and no one is checking the time (or their phones!). And since I’ve spent the last few years on the farm, focused on motherhood, generally having nowhere to be after 7pm, I had one request: dress code, evening chic.

And you know what made the night the most special? Getting to celebrate this new chapter surrounded by people I love from so many chapters of my life. My number one, who so generously opened her home to us. My three best friends since sixth grade. The OGs from the blogging days. My ride-or-dies from adult life. My closest girlfriends from Santa Ynez. Women I’ve worked alongside and admired. Our team who brought this brand to life. And, of course, my family. Seeing them all in one place was pure bliss.

And then there’s @itssarahtallman. My friend, co-founder and the person I’ve had the privilege of building this with for the last two years. We went from “we should do something together someday” to standing at our launch party celebrating the thing we actually did. Pretty full circle.

Thank you @hbeventsco @hannahsoboroff @brooke_kleinman for bringing the night to life so beautifully. You are the best! Every detail was perfect from the beautiful flowers by @isaisafloral to pouring biodynamic @foldedhills wine from Santa Ynez alongside the most delicious @sayang.market food and photos by @sabrinaryanphoto.

Building something you believe in is one thing. Getting to celebrate it surrounded by people who have known you, loved you and cheered you on through so many versions of yourself is another. What a night! Feeling very, very lucky. And reminded that you can leave a city without leaving behind the people you love. Your people are your people, no matter where you live. ♥️

A special thank you to @foldedhills for pouring their beautiful biodynamic wine at our launch party. Their vineyard is just down the road from where I live, and because so much of Carte Blanche was dreamed up and built by @gerihirsch

Violet Grey Diaries 🖤

Since we started working on @carteblanchebeauty, I’ve been documenting the process along the way, never really knowing if I would share any of the footage. Turns out, I’m glad I kept the receipts! Here’s a little look back on what it took to get into @VioletGrey, our dream retail launch partner from day one.

I’ve always felt that if something is at Violet Grey, it’s truly best-in-class. And after going through their incredibly rigorous vetting process ourselves, I now understand exactly why. There is so much that happens before a product ever earns a place on those shelves and I think the process says as much about Violet Grey as the products that make it there.

Getting the yes was a true pinch-me moment. And seeing Multi-Hyphenate now sitting on their shelves? A dream!

Carte Blanche is officially available at Violet Grey, online and in every door. Go find Multi-Hyphenate, try it on, and we really hope you love it as much as we do. 🖤

p.s. I’m wearing shade 3 in the first 3 videos and shade 4 in the ugly cry face one

Meeting 3 or 4

The waiting in-between 🤞🏻

The day we got the news!

Seeing it IRL with @itssarahtallman

I finally did the CO2 laser under my eyes to soften fine lines (before and after in the video). Equal parts curiosity, vanity, and “let’s just see.” Here are my honest thoughts:

1. The laser is spicier than expected, even with numbing cream (and I say this as someone with a high pain tolerance). 🌶️

2. The first week of downtime is…a journey. Bruised, red, flaking, sooo swollen, sun-avoidant, every day brings something new. Slightly fascinating, truly humbling, and by the end, you’re very ready to re-enter society.

3. Around day 7 the redness calms down, but your under-eyes stay a bit “laser-marked” and dry which lasted a few weeks.

4. My derm recommended a series of three, but I’m genuinely happy with just one. I was looking to soften fine lines, not erase them and doing more right now wouldn’t quite match the rest of my face (no filler, no Botox, just…life). I’ll absolutely revisit for a touch-up when it feels right.

ps - I did a laser all over my face at the same time for melasma which didn’t do much (but break me out!), will be pivoting to a different option so please lmk if you have any?

Did I miss anything? Happy to answer any questions. by @gerihirsch

Ten years ago today, my husband laced up his favorite Nikes, slipped on his red Beats, and headed out for his daily six-mile run. We kissed goodbye the way you always do, casually, confidently, assuming there would be many more.

An hour later, the unimaginable happened. He was found unresponsive on the pavement behind Sunset Tower. No pulse, not breathing. A healthy 39-year-old, suddenly lifeless.

Sheriff Leobardo Trujillo was the first responder. He turned Darin’s warm body over, saw his young, handsome face and knew he had to try to save him. For two to three relentless minutes, he gave everything he had. Chest compressions. Oxygen. Hope. His hands became Darin’s heartbeat.

When the medics arrived, they shocked his heart back into rhythm, then rushed him to Cedars as a John Doe (a reminder to set up your medical ID), where a stent was placed in his heart and he was put into a hypothermic coma for the next three days.

We were told they didn’t know how long he had been down before help arrived. We were told to prepare ourselves. He might not wake up. And if he did, he might not be the same.

When they began the process of bringing him out of the induced coma, the neurologist searched for signs of him still being there, asking him to open his eyes, to wiggle his toes, to respond in small ways. Little by little, as the medication wore off, he began to show us flickers of life. Then came the moment the doctor called the biggest test of all.

“Darin, if you can hear me, give me a thumbs up.”

Nothing happened.

Standing beside his family, watching his body wrapped in wires, a machine breathing for him, I felt fear in a way I never had before, the kind that sits in your chest, heavy and silent.

The doctor asked again.

As if reaching back to us, his arm began to rise…and then came the thumbs up!

The entire room erupted into uncontrollable tears as we witnessed a miracle.

Golden Miso Coconut Salmon Bowl (all made in one-pot!) 🍚

This NYTC recipe makes cooking a breeze! Creamy coconut rice, tender spinach, and miso-turmeric salmon (white fish would be god too!) simmered together in one single pot, building bold, cozy flavor with minimal effort. It’s nourishing, comforting, and wonderfully unfussy. Perfect for busy weeknights! Let’s make it:

Grab:
2 cups white jasmine rice, rinsed
1 (15-ounce) can full-fat coconut milk
Salt and pepper
4 scallions, light white and green parts, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons white miso paste
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
6-8 ounce salmon filets (I usually do 3 or 4)
10 oz baby spinach
Limes
Cilantro

Make:
1. Rice: In a large Dutch oven or heavy pot with a lid, combine 2 cups jasmine rice, 1 can full-fat coconut milk, 2 cups water, and 1 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil, stirring every few minutes to avoid rice sticking to the bottom.

2. Salmon: In a medium bowl, mix scallions, miso, soy sauce, olive oil, turmeric, and a few grinds of black pepper. Add the salmon and toss to coat.

3. Layer it up: Lower the heat to medium-low, layer the spinach over the coconut rice, squeeze half a lime over the spinach and nestle the salmon on top in an even layer, scraping in any extra sauce. Cover and cook for 16-20 minutes (NYT calls for 12–15 which was too rare for me) until the salmon is cooked through.

4. Serve: Plate your rice, spinach and fish then top with cilantro and a juicy squeeze of lime.

Enjoy! by @gerihirsch
