When I was younger and skating, I didn’t have to think about the next move, or balancing, or anything. Turns out what used to be automatic now takes actual repetition. So here’s to practicing without skates, which is still effective and safe.

What’s something your body used to do without thinking that now takes actual work? by @gero_what

This Black Elder reminds us that so much of aging is about the impressions and marks we leave in the lives of others. We’re not here to just exist.

Have you ever thought about the fact that none of us has done this thing called life before?

Relearning how to skate is reminding me that this is everyone’s first time on the aging journey. I’ve never been this age before, and neither have you.

Just like learning how to skate, sometimes we’re going to wobble, get it wrong, need help, or have absolutely no idea what we’re doing.

I think we could all give ourselves a little more permission to be beginners. Look inexperienced, ask questions, try something new, and learn as we go.

If you gave yourself permission to be a beginner, what would you give yourself the grace to try? by @gero_what

Breathing sounds so simple, yet in the busyness and challenges of life, we can forget to slow down and simply breathe. As we journey through the aging experience, sometimes the simplest reminders are the ones we need most.

This Black Elder reminds us of the importance of being present, taking a moment, and just breathing. by @gero_what

What happens when a gerontologist decides to relearn how to roller skate after more than 20 years? Chile...apparently a lot of wobbling and screaming.

I’m practicing what I preach about trying new things throughout the aging experience. So, I’m documenting my journey of relearning how to roller skate.

Along the way, I’ll be sharing what this experience is teaching me about learning, confidence, and aging.

What’s something you’ve always wanted to relearn...or finally try? 🛼 by @gero_what

Sometimes the most powerful reminder of why I do this work isn’t found In literature, it’s in moments like these. Every generation has something to teach the next.💕

Aging is happening to all of us, but too many people still struggle to see themselves in the conversation. That is exactly why Christina Peoples created @gero_what

After noticing a lack of aging-focused platforms led by people of color, Christina built a space where education, representation, and storytelling come together. Her goal is simple: make aging easier to understand, more relatable, and more inclusive for every generation.
In this episode of Aging Well, Christina shares how her early experiences with older adults inspired her path into gerontology and why amplifying historically marginalized voices remains at the heart of her work.
