It is rare to find a large-scale contemporary estate that doesn’t feel clinical or echoey, but this grand, six-bedroom residence by @gesh_group still retains a deep sense of intimacy and family utility.

Every zone has a purpose. The lower level provides a bright, light-flooded escape for kids to gather, watch movies, or spill out onto the lower patio. Meanwhile, nestled privately on the grounds sits a completely detached, one-bedroom guest house equipped with its own full kitchen and bathroom.

Whether it serves as a quiet studio for creative work, a long-term space for extended family, or a private oasis for visitors, it offers a level of independence and flexibility that allows the entire compound to gracefully adapt as the rhythms of family life change over the years.

Introducing Whitwell.
A home shaped through a true design-build approach, where architecture, interiors, materials, and construction were developed together from the start, creating cohesion throughout the entire home.

Designed by Caroline of Concept by C, project Whitwell Leans into a quieter kind of luxury through natural materials, softened textures, and refined detailing.

We tend to think of lower levels or basements as dark, forgotten spaces, but this home by @gesh_group treats its lower floor with the exact same respect as the main level.

Flooded with natural light and opening directly onto its own private outdoor patio, this floor was built with a split personality.

On one hand, it’s an absolute sanctuary for wellness, complete with a quiet gym and an infrared sauna to decompress after a long day. On the other, it’s the ultimate gathering spot, housing a moody bar and a proper movie theater.

Combined with a completely standalone one-bedroom guest house on the property, it’s a compound built for long summer days, slow mornings, and spaces that adapt to kids of all ages as they grow.

Let’s step inside this $9,500,000 Contemporary French Chateau in Encino’s Royal Oaks, California by @gesh_group.

Rather than leaning into a sterile, ultra-modern aesthetic, the architecture favors deep material gravity and spatial warmth. Inside the 6-bedroom main residence, the open-concept layout relies on staggering ceiling heights, curated vintage lighting, and a strict palette of raw, natural materials to establish a sense of quiet permanence.

The focus on texture carries into every single bathroom and counter space across the estate, each wrapped in hand-selected, highly exotic stones that showcase remarkable organic veining.

It’s a home built with an immense amount of restraint, letting natural materials tell the story. Swipe through the carousel for a full look at the execution, and catch the full tour over on The Luxury Home Show YouTube channel. taken in California USA by @gesh_group

“The spiral staircase is kind of the focal point of the home. To me, it looks like looking at a piece of art,” - @levy_oren

At a certain level of construction, true opulence isn’t about being loud; it’s about the gravity of the materials you choose to live with. Perched atop a secure private knoll on Woodvale Road, this 6-bedroom estate acts as a physical canvas for raw, tactile finishes.

Instead of flat, standard stone surfaces, every single countertop and bathroom throughout the home is carved from highly exotic stones selected specifically for their deep, remarkable textures and unpredictable organic veining.

It’s a home built with an immense amount of restraint by @gesh_group, letting natural materials tell the story across the entire open-concept footprint.

There’s a certain charm to building around the Venice Canals that never quite feels replicated anywhere else in Los Angeles.

Homes here are not just about the interiors. They are about the setting, the walkability, the reflections off the canals, and the feeling of being hidden away while still in the middle of LA.

That balance is what always draws us back to Venice.

We truly enjoyed collaborating with Christina Cole on Woodvale and bringing this home to life together. The design balances traditional references with more unexpected moments like industrial steel windows, creating a home that feels layered rather than tied to one singular style.

What makes Woodvale special is its flexibility. From the closet display to the custom spaces throughout the home, every detail was designed to feel timeless, personal, and effortlessly lived in.

When designing the primary suite, we wanted it to feel like a true private retreat while still creating connection within the space. We centered the layout around dual en-suite bathrooms, each with its own materiality and character.

Hers was designed with plaster walls, vintage lighting, and a striking Calacatta Viola bath, while his takes on a quieter approach through rich travertine and more understated finishes. Between the two, a shared sitting area with a fireplace ties everything together while still maintaining separation and individuality.
