🧨Dungeon Crawler Carl🧨
Format: audiobook

I haven’t had this much fun with a book/audiobook in so long! This book follows Carl as the alien invasion/apocalypse happens while he is outside chasing his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, in only his boxers and a leather jacket. At that moment, every man made structure was immediately crushed and any remaining survivors are offered the chance of competing in the dungeon crawl that is televised across the universe.

This book is absolutely insane and is the perfect balance of video game and book. I love the audiobook and would highly recommend that format. I have already finished book 2 and am so excited to start book 3 today!

Ps. My Aggie girl is my own little Princess Donut and I picture her everytime I picture Donut 🍩 🧡

Matt Dinniman surprisingly showed up at my local indie store yesterday! I’ve never met an author in person before and I definitely word vomited. Didn’t even talk about his books. Ooops sorry for being awkward Matt!!

I did learn he was a Sleep Token fan so that’s something right?

P.S.
I feel like we (me and my husband) won the lottery with him stopping by our indie! But of course it was after a full day at the zoo with our toddler and I’m wearing no make up and work out clothes 😂 by @getbookiewithit

🔥Threshing Day 🔥

I really had no idea what to expect when picking this one up. I love the Fourth Wing books but wasn’t really excited for this novella. That is, until RY released the dragonkind game and we got to do our own Threshing Day! After getting my dragon (on the first try 💅🏻) I sat down and read the novella and had so much fun with it!
The best part of the FW world is the talking dragons and that’s what this novella was all about! It made me so excited to be back in this world and ready for book 4!

⚔️Steelborn⚔️
format: audiobook

Reya is the notorious thief, the Crimson Dagger. She is one job away from being free and starting life as a blacksmith, the life she has always wanted, when her last job goes wrong and she must find away to pay off her debt or remain the Crimson Dagger forever. She finds herself mixed up with Magic born, far and pirates, while discovering who she is and what she can do to change the tide of a war.

I am in a loop of reading books that are just not for me. I really really did not like the writing style of this book at all. Reya was a very immature and shallow character, and I found myself rooting for the side characters much more than her. At times this book just felt like Throne of Glass mixed with a bunch of popular tropes and unnecessary spice thrown in together. The only thing that kept me going was the plot, but even then I probably should have DNF’d. I don’t know if I will be picking up the sequel or not, but I’m so disappointed I didn’t like this one because it seems like so many others do!

🏴‍☠️ 🌊 Tempest by Victoria Aveyard 🌊 🏴‍☠️
Format: audiobook

Cat Rose used to be a Lady, but after years on the Lyrian Sea she is more pirate than anything else. With a new governor, she finds herself facing the noose if she does not help to track down notorious pirate, Valerian Kane, who happens to be her ex-lover. She is forced to choose between herself and all the pirates that stand in her way.

Okay yall… don’t hate me, but this one was not for me. I love the Pirates of the Caribbean vibes and the overall setting. The writing style just fell really flat for me. This was my first VA book, and the writing just felt really heavy handed (the amount of times “tempest” was used as a description for eyes drove me crazy) and I didn’t really feel connected to any of the characters. It is sold as a love triangle but honestly just sounded like a lot of toxicity with no romance. This book flips back and forth between “before” and “after” except they never converge to the even that causes the time split, which I found very confusing. Also in the “after” the main character would make references to “I have this reputation of ___” and then there was zero evidence of that reputation or supporting events in the “before” chapters? With all that being said, I could be persuaded to pick up the sequel because the ending intrigued me enough.

Since this was my first book by this author, I am wondering if the rest of her books just aren’t for me? Which is so sad if that’s the case ☹️

✨Heartless Hunter✨
Format: Audiobook

This book had me so hooked and I devoured it in 2 days! I think it’s the perfect witchy book for this time of year. I can’t explain it, but it gave me similar vibes as Belladonna by Adalyn Grace.

Years after a revolution that killed the witch queens, the new republic constantly hunts and kills any remaining witches. Rune was forced to turn in her witch grand mother to save her own life, and years later learned she herself was a new witch. She made it her life’s mission to save as many witches as possible through her secret identity, the crimson moth. As she inches closer to being discovered, the cracks in the New Republic start to show, and she just might cause it all to crash down.
