we have been talking about, dreaming of, co-creating this event since the initial days of bhn opening. it’s finally here! a love letter to this community, to mama earth, to you - and the person you are becoming. at bhn and at get Clairefied we believe in creating rituals and routines that serve current you.whether it’s the type of movement you’re engaging in or the way you’re adoring your home space/yourself, these acts build self-trust and allow you in embody the current version of yourself + the one you’re becoming ✨we also believe in creating opportunities to collaborate and take action. we all know the stats around fast-fashion and the environment - saying, they’re not great, is an understatement. clothing swaps are an invitation to choose something different, more creative; something that has an impact. as Luisa Ibarra says: [from a @refinery29 article entitled ‘swapping clothes isn’t just fun - it’s community care’] “choosing second-hand clothing contributes to the sustainability movement, no matter how small it may feel.” clothing swaps can be one of the most fun ways to find new (to you) pieces, try new styles (at no risk), keep textiles out of the landfill, AND connect with others.our first swap lands on one big anniversary, the one YEAR anniversary of strength at WCY! this week’s newsletter held the details but let’s review:move with us to start the day:💥9:05a COLIN & NATE // GROUNDWORK💥10:05a DASHA + KATIE RAD // GROUNDWORK (w/ @rosie.match pop-up for childcare available during this class time through the start of the swap!) ☕ muni coffee & matcha pop-up from 10:00am–1:30pm👗 shop n’ swap opens at 11:30am–1:30pmready to bring in your clothes for the swap? bring in your clean & folded items to either WCY or Capitol Hill around any class time this week. please make sure you sign the sheet at either desk letting us know if you brought in 10, 20, or 30 items so we know how many bags you qualify for in the shop.((gentle reminder: once items are dropped, we are no longer able to return anything.))questions? reach out! send to a friend. come spend some time!#seattle #community #clothingswap by @getclairefied

Today on Spring Equinox, we (@iamchrissyking & @getclairefied) are excited to be birthing something new. Introducing, The Childfree Coven, a community for childfree women and nonbinary individuals. Whether you’re childfree by choice, by circumstance, or just for this season, this space is for you. In a world, where motherhood is sold as a rite of passage, instead of a choice, where women without children are depicted as selfish, cold, and self-centered, where birthing only refers to tiny humans, instead of ideas, projects, books, or art, this is a community where we can explore and celebrate a life that is fulfilling, joy filled, and just as important (and valid) as the lives of those with children. As two childfree friends, we wanted to create a virtual (for now) space that brings other childfree (by choice and/or circumstance) humans together through meet-ups, a book club, conversation and connection building. I’m so excited & grateful to be here in the spirit of possibility & co-creation!We are so excited to be in community with fellow childfree people. Our wish is that this is a space for people to make new connections, build new friendships, have interesting conversations and dialogue, and celebrate our fabulous, childfree lives. You can expect newsletters, monthly virtual meetups, Q&As, and a bookclub!Head to the link in our bios (or our IG stories) to join us. And if you’re not childfree, share with a friend who is. by @getclairefied

happy birthday + sun rotation to Libbie Lu (Liberation Luna) 💖 this sweet being has imprinted on our hearts + lives forever ✨June marked 2 years of @ajporrini & I being in a long distance relationship. it’s worked our growth edges - both as a couple & as individuals. the past 2 years have held some of the lowest lows (both on an individual & a collective level) & also some of the shiniest of glimmers. Libbie has been the brightest glimmer of this year & life chapter. AJ & I can’t believe the divine timing of getting to meet Libbie. it feels like the past 2 years of distance have led to this moment. when I visited SD in June, AJ & I went to Coronado (only my 3rd time there) to bring our niblings (who were visiting) to the park & there was Libbie - ears perked up with a yellow “adopt me” vest on. this babe immediately ran up to me & put her paws on my knees + licked my face. I was done 😭 AJ & our nephews came over & Libbie was so sweet & tender with everyone. that Sunday (right after the park meeting) we went into @pawsofcoronado to ask about this pup. they shared that she’d just been brought in a couple days ago as her human guardian had just passed. AJ & I looked at each other…we agreed that the timing didn’t make sense, but that it felt like a sign that we’d connected. as we were leaving PAWS, a monarch butterfly flew over to us & encircled AJ, our nephews & myself. Age & I spent that night & Monday pm talking about Libbie & how this being had left a mark on our hearts. Tuesday morning I scheduled us an in-person meeting for that afternoon. when we officially returned to meet (& ultimately adopt Libbie), we saw a monarch butterfly. perhaps it was the same one? perhaps there were 2? either way, we took it as a sign that Libbie’s human guardian was giving us their blessing. Libbie, thank you for choosing + trusting us to be your guardians & companions in this lifetime 💫 we love you so. . .Libbie’s been the ultimate teacher of presence & play. it’s also reinforced that we don’t do anything alone & it’s community that is key. we quite literally couldn’t do this distance chapter without support from Auntie @annieaagould (singing ‘Best in Show’ 😂🫶) by @getclairefied

in the words of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One”: “looks like we made it - look how far we’ve come, my baby” 😮‍💨🥹😍happy 10 year wedding anniversary @ajporrini 🦦 “thank you for choosing me. thank you for marrying me. I love you” - our 9/5/15 vows I love that choice is a constant in our partnership. we’ve learned to never take this relationship of ours for granted - we continue to choose it daily. much like anything we embark on in life, we will never “arrive.” we don’t view marriage as an end point/destination - to us, it’s a journey 🌊 AJ, one of the things I cherish most about our partnership is the growth within it (both individually and as a couple). we embrace (sometimes messily) the new humans we are becoming vs trying to confine each other into who we “used to be.” the past 2 years of being in a long distance relationship has sharpened our growth edges in ways we couldn’t have imagined, but I’m so proud of the ways we’ve pushed through discomfort to greet new versions of ourselves - and become stronger as a couple overall. I’m constantly amazed by your kindness, patience, curiosity and willingness to go deep. you see toxic patriarchy for what it is - a system that harms us all, and you work daily to interrogate harmful beliefs and build toward a different, more just world. I love you, babe. always and all days. and I’m beyond grateful to have a partner that encourages my growth even when it pushes against the mainstreamthe bell hooks quote about “learning to love in friendships” has spoken to me ever since I read it. the biggest thanks and virtual hug to our friends, loved ones and community ♥️our love connects with you all have expanded our hearts and have gotten us through the bright and the dim times. we quite literally wouldn’t be here as a couple without the love and support of you all. we feel so blessed to have celebrated with many a decade ago at our wedding and we feel especially blessed to have expanded our friends + fram circle over the past 10 years ✨ by @getclairefied

“this is precisely the time when artists go to work. there is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, and no room for fear. we speak, we write, we do language. that is how civilizations heal.” - Toni Morrison 1. this Octavia E. Butler shirt has been in constant rotation since I received it. you’ve heard me share at length about how her creations, work & legacy have shaped my life & curiosity. I was so moved when @fariha_roisin & @studio___ananda created this art, these t-shirts in FEB. in @fariha_roisin’s words: “Octavia Butler, James Baldwin and Refaat Alareer were all writers and thinkers who have moved my work…” in honor & celebration of this, they co-created t-shirts with @annabelle.cushman & @printhaus.xyz with 100% of the proceeds going to families in Sudan, Gaza, and Altadena, CA. “the point of these shirts (or anything I make) is to holistically generate profit for the community.” sharing as a reminder to support local & global artists rooted in values, community, & liberation 2. @hopeprize shared a beautiful thread: “but what can I do? the role of the writer in a broken world” & these words from Octavia E. Butler’s ‘Parable of the Sower’ felt so timely 3. last Sunday @ajporrini & I got to attend a Beloved Community gathering co-hosted by @ijeomaoluo & @gabrielteodros ✨ we were grateful to learn from them about @unrwa’s GAZA5K happening tomorrow! I’ll be walking with @itsabunderfullife @emmajane.cl & friends, & can’t wait to see others there! registration is closed, BUT you can donate today at: gaza5k.org & even participate from afar if not in WA on @duwamishtribe land 📍4. thank you @prentishemphill for your words - for everything 5. & 6. today is James Baldwin’s heavenly birthday ✨ incredible artist & creative @devthepineapple illustrated 2 of these beautiful, deeply important, forever timely quotes said by James Baldwin. to support Devon’s work + art, you can join her Patreon and/or “buy her a coffee” (link in her bio) music by the exquisite @adriennemareebrown I searched for the opening song that amb sings with @toshireagon for their ‘Octavia’s Parables’ podcast (must listen) but this gem was on IG & also aligns 🎶 by @getclairefied

I’ve shared previously how Octavia E. Butler’s works (in particular ‘Parable of the Sower’) helped to bring me back to a path of curiosity when I was 21 years old. I intentionally say “bring me back” because I believe we come into this world basking in curiosity + wonder. then, depending on how, where, whom we were raised by or we spent time with our curiosity is either cultivated/encouraged or stifled/punished. when I gaze at photos of little Claire she noticed the magic. Octavia E. Butler’s legendary Afrofuturist, science fiction books have helped me to return to a person that notices the magic. someone who studies history while also playing a role in building towards collective liberation ✨I reread ‘Parable of the Sower’ last year in the timeline that it was written in (2024). it was my third time reading this book, yet it landed so differently as so many of Octavia E. Butler’s predictions came true in January of 2025.as the fires tore across LA that winter, I was in a bookshop with my friend @cassandra.lavalle & this lil pocketbook: ‘A Few Rules For Predicting The Future’ immediately stood out to me. it’s been my constant companion ever since, & now feels like a deeply poignant time to reference its wisdom. “I wanted to understand the lies that people have to tell themselves when they either quietly or joyfully watch their neighbors ruined, spirited away, killed. different versions of this horror have happened again and again in history. they’re still happening in places like Rwanda, Bosnia, Kosovo and East Timor, wherever one group of people permits its leaders to convince them that for their own protection, for the safety of their families & the security of their country, they must get their enemies, those alien others who until now were their neighbors.” when asked: “what’s the answer?” (to the many issues & problems that the ‘Parables’ books bring up) by a student, Octavia E. Butler answered: “there isn’t one.” “I mean there’s no single answer that will solve all of our future problems. there’s no magic bullet. instead there are thousands of answers - at least. you can be one of them if you choose to be.” 💫here’s to choosing! by @getclairefied

March is #endometriosisawarenessmonth but you already know that in this lil corner of the internet I like to highlight + bring awareness beyond the days/weeks/months that are dedicated to important people, topics, cultures…shifting towards ongoing conversations, understanding & action.I filmed this video at the 2 year mark (1/27/25) of my endometriosis excision surgery. I’ve recently had friends & clients diagnosed with this disease & I’ve also been in conversation with friends, clients, fellow entrepreneurs who experience chronic illness & pain. while I’m not on here much anymore, I have felt called to share more about my experience in the hopes that even just one person feels seen & supported on their journey. and I’m writing more + gathering resources, so if you’d be into a lil love note/newsletter in your inbox or a substack moment - let me know 💕in gratitude & in healing xx5 things (& there’s many more) I wish I knew before having excision surgery:1. nothing can prepare you for the feelings that will arise pre/post op & the only way through is to feel them2. gut health is critical & changes in the microbiome shouldn’t be ignored. post-op I was experiencing incredibly painful bloating & I was diagnosed with SIBO by a functional medicine doctor. I believe in a both/and approach. I am forever grateful for western medicine for diagnosing me AND functional medicine has helped me get to the root of why I have endo in the first place. and while we can, should & need to be critical of the ways that western medicine perpetuates racist, transphobic, fatphobic beliefs, we also need to be mindful of the wellness to fascism pipeline!3. crafting heals4. I’m healing for both my physical body & for the bodies of my lineage 5. you can have a tubal ligation AND keep your uterus & ovaries! sharing for anyone looking for reproductive justice options [and let’s always remember, cite & uplift the Black women activists who coined the term “reproductive justice” in 1994 in Chicago as a framework that expanded the concept of reproductive rights] by @getclairefied
