Every “just in case” item takes up space for your life right now.

Over the years, I’ve worked with clients and together, we go through their belongings one item at a time.

Is this something you’re actually using?
Does it serve your life today?
Is it something you truly love or need?

It seems like it should be a simple yes or no.

But so often, I hear a third answer:

“Just in case.”
“Maybe.”

- “Just in case I lose weight someday, I’ll keep these jeans.”
Meanwhile, they haven’t fit in years and are taking up valuable closet space.

- “Just in case I have grandchildren someday, I’ll save this.”
You’re holding onto something for grandchildren who don’t even exist yet—and may never need or want it.

- “Maybe I’ll use this for a project.”
The project has been “maybe” for three years, but the supplies are still taking up an entire shelf.

- “Just in case we have guests.”
Keeping 30 extra towels, sheets, or dishes for guests who come once or twice a year.

- “Maybe I’ll read these books again.”
You’ve moved them three times and haven’t opened them once.
- “Just in case I need a gift someday.”
A drawer full of random candles, mugs, and unopened things that you’re keeping because someone might need them. But they’ve been sitting there since you moved.

- “Maybe I’ll fix this someday.”
The broken item has been sitting in the garage for two years waiting for a future version of you to become the person who fixes it.

What if you change your mind? You’re allowed to make a new decision later.

You don’t have to hold onto everything just because it might be useful someday.

It’s time to let go of the “maybe” to make room for “now.”

Your home should have room for the life you’re living, not just the life you’re imagining might happen.

And sometimes, letting go isn’t about getting rid of something.

It’s about making room for yourself. 🩷

🧺 W.A.S.H. — The Laundry Room System

W — Wash
Keep laundry essentials together and easily accessible: detergent, stain removers, dryer balls, etc.

A — Arrange
Create designated homes for everything that belongs in the laundry room so items are easy to find and put away.

S — Sort
Use the space to sort clothing efficiently… lights, darks, delicates, towels, or whatever system works best for your household.

H — Handle
The laundry room should make it easy to wash, dry, fold, and move laundry along rather than letting clean clothes pile up.
When the space has a clear purpose, the entire process becomes more efficient.

This is what the laundry room is designed for!!

Take a peek inside this kitchen—>> drawers, cabinets, and all! ✨

A well organized kitchen isn’t just about making everything look nice. It’s about making everyday life a little easier. When everything has a home and you know where to find it, cooking and baking feel so much more enjoyable and a lot less stressful.

No more digging through cabinets or searching for that one thing you know is in there. You can spend less time looking and more time enjoying your kitchen. 🤍 taken in Newport Beach, California by @getorganized.kyla

✨ PLAYROOM RESET ✨

Before (scroll last two photos): Too many small containers holding stuff, no good system, and way too much visual clutter.

The goal wasn’t to add more storage, it was to work with what was already in the room. 🤍

Cleared out the excess containers, utilized the existing furniture for storage, and added an 8-cube organizer to create designated homes for everything. The open bins make it easy to simply toss toys in, push the bin back in, and keep the room looking clean and organized! ✨🧸🚂🪀

I think one of the hardest parts of letting go is feeling like we’re somehow getting rid of a piece of our past.

But the truth is, our things serve different purposes in different seasons of our lives.

Think about your kids’ books and toys for example. There was a time when those books were read every single night. Those toys were played with for hours. They helped your kids learn to read, use their imagination, be creative, and just be little.

And those things were important.

But now they’re older. They don’t play with those toys anymore. They don’t read those little books. They’ve moved on to the next stage of life.

And that doesn’t make those things any less special.

They did exactly what they were supposed to do. They helped your child grow. They gave them hours of fun. They created memories. They served a purpose.

Just because something is no longer useful doesn’t mean it wasn’t valuable.

Sometimes we hold onto things because we think letting go means we’re letting go of the memory, too. But you don’t have to keep the toy to remember the little hands that played with it. You don’t have to keep every book to remember reading bedtime stories together.

The memories aren’t in the stuff. ❤️

Your home doesn’t have to hold onto every version of your life you’ve ever lived. It should make room for the life you’re living now.

So when you’re struggling to let something go, ask yourself:

“Does this still serve a purpose in my life today?”

And if it doesn’t, that DOES NOT mean it was a waste of money or that it wasn’t important.

Maybe it simply means it ALREADY SERVED ITS PURPOSE.

And that’s actually a beautiful thing.

You can be grateful for what something gave you, appreciate the memories it holds, and still decide that you don’t need to keep it anymore.

Letting go doesn’t erase the past.

It just makes a little more room for the present. 🤍

One of my favorite parts of organizing a pantry is getting to DECORATE it… because the decor actually gets used!! 🤍

I’m a HUGE advocate for using what you own. Don’t let the pretty things you bought just sit there collecting dust—USE THEM!

These floating shelves with glass jars aren’t just beautiful… they hold the things this family reaches for and eats every single week! ✨ There’s something so satisfying about making everyday essentials look pretty and functional.

Perfection isn’t the goal. Peace is. 🤍

Your home doesn’t need to look like a magazine to be organized. It needs to work for you. The best organizing systems are the ones you can actually maintain, not the ones that make you feel like you’re constantly falling behind.

Organization isn’t about creating a perfect home. It’s about creating a home that gives you peace of mind. A place where you can find what you need, feel less overwhelmed, and spend more time living instead of searching, cleaning, or stressing.

Progress over perfection. Every single time. ✨
