I have been thinking about the recent robotic surgery performed at Redeemer’s Health Village Redeemers Health Village (RHV) band what it could mean for the future of healthcare in Nigeria.

Beyond the robot itself, what caught my attention was the possibility of technology helping to bridge gaps in access to specialised healthcare.

It also reminded me that healthcare innovation is rarely about one technology alone. It takes people, infrastructure, data, connectivity, clinical expertise and systems that can support the technology.

As someone increasingly interested in the intersection of healthcare and technology, developments like this remind me that the future of healthcare is not something we only read about happening elsewhere. It is beginning to take shape here too.

And I do not just want to watch that transformation happen.

I want to be part of the generation of healthcare professionals helping to build, improve and sustain the technology driven healthcare systems Nigeria needs.

There is still so much to learn but this is exactly the kind of future I want to contribute to. by @getrhoda

One thing I wish healthcare practitioners knew about the experience of receiving care.

We measure what happened clinically.
We measure waiting time.
We measure turnaround time.
We measure outcomes.

But how often do we ask, “What did this experience feel like for the person receiving the care?”

Two people can receive the same treatment and still walk away with completely different experiences.

One may leave thinking, “They took good care of me.”
The other may leave feeling like they were simply processed.

Sometimes, the difference is not the treatment itself. It is the communication, the little explanations, the reassurance and simply feeling heard.

For me, patient experience is not the soft side of healthcare.

It is part of the care itself.

Perhaps, that is something worth measuring too.

@vishy.mindmaster once said.

In life, as in chess, learning must be constant, both new things and fresh ways of learning them.

The process will invariably involve a certain degree of unlearning, and possessing the readiness to do that is utterly important.

If your way of doing things is not working, clinging to your conclusions is only going to hold you back.

Unlearning is perhaps the hardest thing to do but it is a necessity if growth and success are your goals.
