NEW HERE? START HERE. ❤️

I’ve never been very good at fitting into one box.

I’m a classically trained flutist. A touring artist and songwriter. A session musician. A music educator and clinician. A certified coach and speaker. A filmmaker. An arts advocate. A curator of audiovisual projects.

I wear a LOT of hats, and I’ve finally stopped believing I need to choose just one.

For years, I wondered how all of these pieces fit together.

Now I know.

I am endlessly fascinated by POSSIBILITY.

What becomes possible when someone gives the idea they’ve been carrying somewhere to go.

When they make the decision they’ve been circling.

When they stop waiting until they feel completely ready.

That’s a big part of why I love coaching.

I see possibility in people, and I love helping them see it for themselves clearly enough to trust it and move toward it.

Maybe you have a project you REALLY want to make happen. An idea you’ve been carrying for years. A change you’re ready to make. Or something you want for your life or work that you haven’t quite figured out how to get from here to there yet.

Those are exactly the kinds of things I LOVE helping people with.

And that thread runs through everything I do.

So yes, you’ll find a LOT of different things here.

Music. Creativity. Coaching. BIG dreams. Life as a working artist. Courage. Growth. Newfoundland adventures. Things that light me RIGHT up.

And probably a few mushrooms. 🍄❤️

But underneath all of it is an invitation:

What’s something you would LOVE to make happen in your life, even if you’re not quite sure yet how you’re going to get there?

If you have a big idea, a meaningful change you’re ready to make, or a part of your life or work that you know could be MORE, I think you’ll feel at home here.

I’m so glad you found your way here. ❤️

This picture says it all. We are SO packed.

@joshua_m_caine and I are heading to our happy place, Twillingate for 3.5 weeks, and I’m typing this with a pillow on my lap and three plants at my feet. The printer is riding in the middle console. Wandering Dude, my plant, is perched on the dash like he’s navigating. Every gap in this car has something jammed into it. Not one more thing fits.

We’re celebrating our dear friend Charlie’s birthday, and mine, and if the weather cooperates I’m spending the whole day on Ship Island with my honey. Then we’re slowing down for real. ❤️

There will be cold plunging, a lot of music, and some ultra focused time on how we want to up-level our lives. And wood. So much wood splitting.

Wish us luck. And wish Wandering Dude luck, because he’s already leaning toward the windshield! 🤣 by @getyourfluteon

There's something pretty special about bringing your art back to the place where your own story began.

In November 2022, I had the incredible opportunity to perform my audiovisual project DON'T LET ME FALL TOO FAR at the Rendezvous with Madness Festival @workmanartsto at the beautiful CAMH Auditorium in Toronto.

I grew up on Toronto Island, so getting to share this deeply personal work with family and friends in my hometown made the experience that much more meaningful.

One of the things I loved most about this festival was how it brought people together through the arts to have open, honest conversations about mental health.

Following my performance, we had a really insightful discussion where I shared some of my own experiences with depression while touring as a musician. It was a powerful reminder of how music and art can help us connect, understand one another, and talk about things that aren't always easy to put into words.

I'd LOVE to return to this festival someday with some of the new work I've been creating!

For today's FLUTE JAMS, here's a little excerpt from "Alders", a piece from DON'T LET ME FALL TOO FAR, featuring looped piccolo, voice, electronics and film.

🎶 Looped piccolo and voice through @ableton: Rozalind MacPhail
🎛️ Electronics by @ind_parks (Saint John, NB)
🎬 Film by Raven Blue

Has music or art ever helped you make sense of something you were going through? I'd love to hear your story. 🥰 by @getyourfluteon

CLIENT INSIGHTS SERIES 💡

“I used to have so much energy. What happened to me?”

Life gets FULL, and it's easy to lose touch with yourself. We show up for everyone else, keep things moving, make decisions, meet deadlines. And somewhere in the middle, we forget to ask ourselves one pretty important question:

What do I actually need right now?

I love watching what happens when someone finally has the space to explore that question. New ideas show up. Curiosity comes back. Decisions that felt overwhelming start to feel doable. And then there's that beautiful moment when someone gets excited about their own life again.

I LOVE being part of that.

Being a steady anchor. Asking questions that open things up. Celebrating the courage it takes to make changes, even the little ones.

There's something incredibly meaningful about having someone in your corner who sees what's possible for you, especially when you're having a hard time seeing it for yourself. It's one of the things I cherish most about coaching. ❤️

If this story resonates with you and you're curious about exploring coaching together, I've created a little starting place.

My Coaching Starter Package includes three private 90-minute sessions for $150 USD, along with session summaries, recordings of each call, and downloadable transcripts so you can revisit all those little nuggets of insight you've had.

Maybe there's a project you've been wanting to move forward, a big decision you're wrestling with, or a life transition that's taking more out of you than you expected. Maybe you're feeling a little lost, craving clarity, or wanting to create a new rhythm for focus and productivity that actually works for you.

Three sessions can be a meaningful starting place for any of these things. Dedicated space to think, explore, experiment, and discover your own way forward.

If you'd like to know more, you're welcome to DM me the word COACHING. We can explore whether working together feels like a good fit.

And whether coaching interests you or not, I hope this story reminds you to check in with yourself.

What might you need a little more of in your life right now? ❤️ by @getyourfluteon

ONE IS ONLY POOR IF THEY CHOOSE TO BE ❤️

Josh and I were embarrassingly late doing our taxes and bookkeeping this year. Life has just been lifing, and the paperwork kept sliding down the list. Canadian Thanksgiving and Josh’s three-day break finally gave us a little time to tackle it.

We started back in April 2025, and wow, what a trip down memory lane! Renovation receipts, moving expenses, and reminders of our leap from renters to homeowners. A year later, Wood Street has become a home we’re so grateful to call our own.

Somewhere between the receipts and income calculations, we pulled together a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner with pepper-roasted cauliflower and sweet tooth mushrooms we’d foraged ourselves. We even prepared 60 smoothie bags with fresh greens from Lester’s, picked before the frost. A little taste of summer for the winter months.

With Dolly Parton singing and sharing stories in the background, something struck me.

We were calculating what we HAD and DIDN’T HAVE, while surrounded by so much of what makes us RICH.

Isn’t fall an interesting paradox? We’re rushing to harvest and preserve everything before it’s gone, while nature is showing us how much abundance there is. Food we’ve gathered, a warm home, music playing, and someone we love across the dinner table. None of those things show up on a tax return.

Dolly once said, “One is only poor if they choose to be.”

Josh and I have both been through difficult financial times. We know what it’s like to struggle and make hard choices just to get by. Financial hardship is real, and we don’t always get to choose our circumstances. But those experiences have also taught us that some of life’s greatest riches have little to do with money.

Maybe that’s what I needed to be reminded of this Thanksgiving: there’s more than one way to measure a rich life.

I’m curious. What’s one little thing that makes you feel incredibly rich? ❤️

If you enjoy stories like this, I share more reflections in my weekly newsletter, INSPIRATION SOUP. I’d love to have you join me! DM me your email address and I’ll add you to the list. 🥰 by @getyourfluteon

FLUTE JAMS - LIVE ON RADIO SWEDEN 🇸🇪 🎶

Some places stay with you, and sometimes they turn into music.

I’ve had the chance to tour Sweden twice in autumn, and both trips left such a memorable mark on me.

There are places in the Swedish countryside I still think about often, and one of them became the inspiration for a piece I wrote called "Rytterne."

This clip is from a particularly special moment back in 2019: the first time I performed "Rytterne" live on the radio, for Radio Sweden, while I was touring in Sweden.

The electronics for the piece were created by Swedish band @maryreadband, and I loved getting to explore all of these textures and effects with the alto flute through @ableton.

This is just a tiny snippet, but hearing it takes me straight back there. I plan to release this song on an electronic flute album after PUSH & PULL is out in the world. by @getyourfluteon

You can see the thing you want so clearly, but the path between here and there still feels fuzzy and a little bit impossible. You know what you want, but you just can’t seem to figure out how to get there.

That’s a very real place to be, especially when you’re someone with a lot of ideas, skills, responsibilities and possibilities competing for your attention.

You may know what you want to build, change, offer or experience next, but still feel unsure about how to make it real.

One of my clients recently reflected on how much her thinking has changed through our work together.

She said she used to think, “I don’t know how to do it.” Now she finds herself asking, “How do I make it happen?” That shift is EVERYTHING.

You don’t need to know every step before you begin. You can learn how to become more intentional, strategic, resourceful and curious about what might be possible, especially if you’re someone who wears a lot of hats as an artist, educator, entrepreneur, performer, creative or leader.

Sometimes your next opportunity is hiding in the combination of things you already know how to do.

It might become a collaboration, a workshop, a new offer, a performance idea, a different audience, or a completely new way for people to experience your work.

So if there’s something you can see for yourself but you’re struggling to figure out how to make it real, bring it to me.

I currently have a Coaching Starter offer that includes three 90-minute coaching sessions for $150 USD.

We can use that time to explore what you want, what might be possible, and what could actually move it forward.

You’ll find COACHING STARTER through the link in my bio. ❤️ by @getyourfluteon

WIRED DIFFERENTLY ❤

I had an unexpected moment at @music.nl Week today during the very last panel of the entire conference.

I took in as many panels as I could this week and learned so much. But today’s “Wired Differently: Thriving in the Music Industry” panel landed somewhere much deeper.

For the first time this week, I felt like I fit. Like I was truly seen and understood.

I don’t talk about this often, but I am a highly sensitive person. Big groups, noisy spaces and networking environments can take a lot out of me.

I’m also an artist whose work doesn’t fit neatly into a box.

I create audiovisual work combining flute, voice, electronics, film and storytelling. Sometimes, the moment I explain what I do to a programmer, I can feel the possibility of being booked getting smaller rather than bigger. The work can sound complicated before anyone has experienced it.

My projects also move differently. Creating the music is only about 50% of the process. Then comes the visual world, the technology and figuring out how everything lives together in performance.

I haven’t showcased at MusicNL Week in the past two years.

I’ve been building.

And that can feel incredibly lonely when current showcase expectations don’t really fit the way my art form works.

I am creating. I am developing. I am moving forward.

It just doesn’t always look like the kind of progress our industry knows how to measure.

Then today’s panel happened, and something in me settled.

Maybe being wired differently doesn’t mean I have to keep squeezing myself into the existing box.

And then @rachelcousins_’ final showcase completely undid me. Her lyrics touched something so tender that I had to go find tissues at the bar.

She reminded me that loneliness is not mine alone.

What an unexpected gift at the end of the week.

I’m leaving MusicNL Week with more understanding of myself, more compassion for other artists, and more courage to keep building a music career that actually fits the artist I am. ❤ by @getyourfluteon

Nothing beats my honey, @joshua_m_caine being by my side tonight for the @music.nl industry awards. Grateful to be nominated for Industry Professional and Music Educator of the Year. Celebrating increased wages and rights for the @newfoundlandsymphonyorchestra players (a new ratified 3 year collective agreement) and my flute students excelling in their exams and competitions. Today and every day is worth celebrating that I get to be of service in the music industry here in Newfoundland and Labrador. So grateful. ❤️ by @getyourfluteon

700 WAYS HOME ❤️

I was one yoga class away from 700 for months.

Travel, time in Twillingate, work, life. Then Tuesday, in the middle of a REALLY full week, I got up for the 6:30am class at @modoyogastjohns. Yoga is one of the ways I come home to myself.

Just before I reached the studio, I looked up and to my left. OH MY HEART. The sky over Signal Hill was absolutely on fire, with bright reds, oranges, pinks and purples. I walked backwards a bunch of steps so I could stop and take it in. And to think, I almost missed that magic.

Then I opened the door and there was the most kind human, yoga instructor Jan, smiling brightly. “Welcome, Rozalind! Today is your 700th class!”

700. How did that even happen?

When class ended, I tried to sneak out while Jan was talking to someone. He stopped me. “This is an important milestone. We need to take a photo!” And I started crying. That’s me in the photo, mid-recovery, milestone board in one hand and sweaty mat in the other. 😂

I never would have stopped to celebrate this. I’d have thought “Cool. 700.” and moved on. But someone else stopped me long enough to recognize what it actually represented.

Seven hundred times I showed up for myself. Including all the stretches when I didn’t go, all the times life got busy, and all the times I came back.

I walked home crying tears of gratitude because I felt so deeply seen and celebrated. I felt like I mattered. And I kept thinking about that sunrise I almost missed. How much beauty do we miss when we don’t stop long enough to notice what’s right in front of us?

So if you’re giving yourself a hard time about a habit you haven’t done in a while, maybe you don’t need to start over. Maybe you just get to come back, whenever you’re ready. And when you do, please don’t forget to look up.

Celebrate all those tiny acts of showing up for yourself. And cherish the people who stop long enough to celebrate them with you. ❤️
