Gran Fondo Maryland & Gran Fondo Nats officially mark the end of our season. We’ve been quiet these past couple of days because the crew has packed up and headed back to the far corners of the world where we belong.

This weekend I competed in my first ever national cycling championships.

I wasn’t feeling particularly excited—or confident—going into the race. I was worn down from a long year of intense training. Worn down from several very stressful weeks at work, followed by a long week of work travel and performance. I was feeling a little sick. The forecast was rainy. And I was more than a little worried about crashing and breaking my leg (again), this time while alone on the other side of the country.

So I did a lot of inner work going into the race.

I tried to reconnect with the joy of riding my bike. I stopped thinking about results and refocused on process goals: Fuel well. Don’t forget anything. Control your pacing. Stay on course. Don’t crash. And, ideally, have a little fun.

Did I perform at my peak? No.

Did I hit all of my process goals and actually enjoy myself out there? Yes.

Did I still manage to snag a podium at my first-ever national championship?

Also yes.

I’ll take that as a win. 🥉🚴‍♀️ taken in Frederick, Maryland by @gfondonatseries

2026 Gran Fondo National Championship
5th in age group

2 years ago I started riding a bike to work. Never would I have thought that I would race a national level race and definitely didn’t think a podium spot in my age group was obtainable.
Shoutout to my beautiful partner @janelle.wagner3 for sticking by my side through all the training and exhaustion, and to my parents for taking the 10hr drive to enjoy this amazing event with us. @cosracing I couldn’t have done this without your support and mentorship’s.
Frederick Maryland @gfondonatseries knows how to put on a party! Thank you!

Riders tackled 87 miles through wet conditions and five timed segments at today’s USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships in Frederick, MD. National titles were determined by the fastest combined time across the five segments. 🇺🇸🏆

Congratulations to our newly crowned National Champions and everyone who raced today. Thank you to @gfondonatseries for putting on another great event.
