My heart is broken for our community here in Bend. Silver Rail Elementary School is 1/2 mile from our house. James had most of his Little League practices and games there. Adeline would have been there yesterday if she was not homeschooled. I told my wife that if for no other reason, that all her years of homeschooling our kids were worth it just so that Adeline wasn’t inside that school yesterday. 9 kids that live on our street lived through that nightmare yesterday. Thankfully they all made it home. I don’t know the right words to say other than I want to do something to help. I will be running for 24 hours next weekend at the Suttle Lake Trail Fest and have started a go fund me to raise some money for the families affected by this tragedy. Link is in my bio and below. I will be using the pain, anger, and heartbreak to fuel me through the night and see how far I can push myself. I know that whatever pain I’ll feel out there, is nothing compared to the pain the parents of those children are feeling tonight. Any amount you can contribute is much appreciated and I will make sure it goes directly to the people affected by this senseless violence. 😔 💔 🙏

Wishing a big Happy 17th Birthday to my one and only son, James!! I know it’s not always easy being the only boy with 3 sisters in the house. James has had his share of medical challenges including multiple surgeries over the last few years and has worked hard to overcome them. It has been great seeing all the progress he’s made since beginning high school and I’m so proud of the young man he is growing up to be. Being able to get out on hikes in the mountains, go fishing, camping, and headbanging at Aftershock with you has been so awesome this year! What an unforgettable day it was at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento.
I have been a big fan of TOOL for over 30 years. I haven’t seen them play live since 1997. Over the last few years their music has become so much more important and personal to me because listening to their music really helped me crawl out of the dark hole my life was in a few years ago. Their lyrics really started to hit home and I started seeing so many parallels between their songs and my life. There’s hardly a day that goes by that I don’t listen to at least one of their songs. 2 years ago I decided that it was a top priority for me to see them play live again and vowed that if they played anywhere on the northern half of the west coast, or within a days drive that I would do whatever it takes to see them. I bought Aftershock passes right then and there when I saw they were headlining the last day of the festival. They did not disappoint and I found myself with tears in my eyes more than once during their amazing set. It was great to meet up with @thepatientrunner and hang for awhile. But, Being able to take my son @jahames__gisi to see TOOL play live will forever be one of the highlights in my life story. It seems like I’ve been racking up a lot of these highlights this year and that means I must be back on track and living life right. Life is way too short friends. Don’t wait or hesitate to chase your dreams or do whatever it is that makes you happy. Tomorrow is never guaranteed, so Spiral Out and Keep Going! HAPPY 11th BIRTHDAY to my sweet baby girl Adeline Trinity! 🎂🎉 I don’t think that there has been a single day that has gone by since this beautiful young girl was born that she hasn’t made me smile. Adeline has been through some tough challenges in her first 11 years that no kid should have to deal with. In 2022, when she was in and out of the hospital having multiple surgeries on her legs, she continued to radiate joy and love, while handling a terrifying medical situation with bravery and resilience that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully wrap my head around. At a time when I was as close to a complete breaking point that I ever hope to be, her strength and love gave me the inspiration to keep going. Adeline, I hope and pray that you will continue to carry your joy and love for life, people, animals, and the planet with you for the rest of your life. This world needs you! Let your light continue to SHINE baby girl. I am so proud of you and I LOVE YOU to the ends of the universe! Happy Birthday Addie 🎂🎉

What an amazing and inspiring experience I had crewing and pacing for @thetcam at the Mountain Lakes 100 last weekend. I’ve been training with Tyler all year for this and it was so awesome and rewarding to see him dig so deep to reach this enormous goal. I’m honored to have had the privilege of running the final 30 miles of this epic adventure with him, and what I got to witness was something special that won’t be forgotten. I also had a blast helping @leanaleo crew Tyler throughout the day before my 1:00am pacing duty started. It was so great to see so many other friends and meet so many awesome people out there. Thanks to all the volunteers and @gobeyondracing for putting on a spectacular 100 mile trail race! This will go down as a legendary weekend in my life story.

South Sister - 8/30/26 - Summer would not be complete without a South Sister Summit in the bag. ✅ I finally scored a permit and it turned out to be a perfect day to climb it. First time I’ve been on the summit and not felt like I was going to get blown away by the wind. This mountain holds a special place in my heart and I’m so grateful to be able bodied enough to climb it.

When you’ve been training most of the year for the Elkhorn 53 mile trail race and it gets canceled because of unsafe air from wildfire smoke, you can either throw yourself a pity party and complain about it or you can pivot and head to the coast with friends for clean air and still rip out some epic runs and make it an unforgettable weekend. I chose the latter and it did not disappoint. I can’t say thanks enough to @leanaleo for making the last minute camping arrangements and planning the run routes, and @thetcam for shuttling us to and from trailheads. We were originally planning on a coastline 50K for Saturday but life threw another curveball when Tyler and LeAna had their vehicle breakdown 70 miles from Bend and had to wait almost 7 hours to get towed back. I couldn’t believe it when they switched vehicles and drove through most of the night and all Saturday morning and arrived early Saturday afternoon. We pivoted again and split up / adjusted our routes and ended up getting to enjoy two awesome (and hard) runs! The only thing that would have made it better is if Tyler would have been able to run with us. Aside from the running, my family loved hanging out with Tyler and LeAna exploring Gold Beach, playing games, and chatting about “Aura Farming” and other lingo I don’t understand 😆 I would say this weekend turned out just as fun and memorable as Elkhorn would have been. There’s always next year. ✌🏼🫶🏻🤘🏼🌀

A week from tomorrow, if conditions permit, I will be toeing the line at the Elkhorn Crest 53 mile trail race in Eastern Oregon. I’ve been “training” for this since the beginning of 2026. With all the fires burning and smoke in Oregon right now there is a good possibility that this race may be canceled. If that happens I will be very disappointed, but I will accept it and be grateful for the amazing journey I’ve had so far. Over the last year I’ve connected with so many amazing people and built friendships that have been such a blessing and taught me so much about myself. Weekend runs of 15+ miles have become normal and my escape and reset from the heaviness of the world right now. These connections, friendships, adventures, and memories are already more of a reward than any finisher medal, trophy, or any amount of money could ever buy. So, to all the friends that have joined me for even a few miles along this journey, I want you to know that I am grateful from the core of my soul for every mile we’ve run together, every conversation, every step and laugh we’ve shared along the way. I’m so grateful that our lives have crossed paths. For me, that’s what this is all about. My only goals for this race are to be present and soak in the beauty of the nature around me, to be a friendly and encouraging voice to everyone I meet along the way, and to hopefully cross the finish line next Saturday. When you realize that we’re all in this together and together we can do anything, these crazy goals don’t seem nearly as impossible or scary. No matter what happens, I’ve already won this one. What really matters? Life is hard and stressful. Life is also short. A lot of people spend their whole lives chasing money, cars, status, real estate, and whatever other material things they think will make them happy. I prefer to accumulate quality experiences and connections with the people I care about and this amazing planet. That’s all for now.
