We must love and protect each other!

Today grassroots movements with GGJ members and our allies are launching The People’s Care Agenda, a set of popular demands developed by grassroots communities to withstand authoritarian attacks, protect our communities and continue to fight for the vision of a resilient and healthy future for all.

We demand that our local governments make our cities and communities welcoming and safe for all people, invest in preparing our neighborhoods against disasters, and protect the most vulnerable neighbors against fascist attacks. Together we have the solutions and the vision to make this a reality. The People’s Care Agenda calls on our local governments to:

• Make our cities and communities welcoming and safe for all people.
• Divest from local and international militarism spending. Stop state and vigilante attacks on our communities.
• Expand local infrastructure and social safety nets to improve our ability to withstand disasters.
• Invest in good union jobs that build safe and resilient neighborhoods.

“For us, the seed is not just food –– it is a product that connects us to our identity and our traditions.”

On Rural Women’s Day we spotlight the words of Mariama from Nous Sommes la Solution (We are the Solution), a powerful movement of 14 rural women’s organizations in 8 countries across West Africa that is leading the way in agroecology and food sovereignty.

Mariama speaks to how, through seed exchange, experimental farms, and more, rural women are playing a vital role in moving toward “the sovereignty that Africa seeks.”

Today, and every day, we salute the rural women and all of the food providers across the food system who are nourishing their communities and feeding the world. by @ggjalliance

In working closely with Grassroots Global Justice Alliance (GGJ) @ggjalliance over the past few years, Cindy Wiesner’s warmth, intelligence and leadership have made a huge impact on me.

After 14 years of serving at the intersection of climate justice, grassroots feminism, and demilitarization, Cindy has stepped down from Executive Directorship at GGJ, and her legacy deserves to be celebrated. Please join me in supporting Cindy’s farewell fundraiser at Facing Race Conference to support GGJ’s ongoing work!

For the last 20 years, GGJ has worked to cohere the grassroots organizing sector in the US, in deep solidarity with social movements of the Global South. Today, Grassroots Global Justice Alliance is responding to the call to resist rising authoritarianism and imperialism and meeting this moment through initiatives like the Transformative Organizing and Feminist Organizing Schools, led by GGJ’s new Interim Executive Director Marcia Olivo.

Grassroots leaders like Cindy and Marcia are showing immense courage and strategic clarity in the face of authoritarianism. The incredible team at @ggjalliance continually inspires me to become a better organizer and person. Please join me in honoring Cindy’s legacy and standing with grassroots feminist leadership as GGJ enters a new period of growth and resilience!

In the month of September, Los Jardines had been traveling and representing our community on the East Coast. Richard Moore, LJI Co-Coordinator, traveled to Bowie State University in Maryland to receive an “Environmental justice Lifetime Impact Award. We then were honored to receive an award presented by the Center for Engagement Environmental Justice and Health. Richard then traveled to Wilmington, Delaware to meet with our Environmental Justice Health Alliance partners and Delaware State Representative Larry Lambert a strong supporter of Environmental Justice.

We then went off to New York City for Climate Week where he presented on panels with the Just Transition Alliance, an NRDC panel on building just relationships, and a history panel on the coming together for the first People of Color Leadership Summit hosted by WE ACT. Most importantly, we got to host our first workshop with the New Mexico No False Solution Coalition, which was well attended, thank you to all for the support.

I’ve known Cindy Wiesner for 26 years. She is one of the most dedicated and hard-working organizers I know.

Her work to integrate a commitment to feminism and gender justice into U.S. social justice movements and to link us with grassroots movements abroad has been groundbreaking.

Her work to help movements align and move together has been tireless.

We don’t often give our best women of color leaders the flowers they deserve, please join me in giving our sister Cindy hers by donating to her farewell fundraiser to benefit Grassroots Global Justice Alliance, and in buying a ticket to her farewell event at facing race in November. @ggjalliance @facingrace taken in Raleigh, North Carolina by @ggjalliance

The ongoing war on Iran has led to thousands of deaths and injuries in Iran, Lebanon, and surrounding countries, including strikes at a school and a wedding, as well as the deaths of at least 18 U.S. troops to date.

And, it’s costing a lot of U.S. taxpayer dollars.

Imagine what we could do with this money.

@naeh_endhomelessness found that $9.6 billion could fund housing for all unhoused people in homeless shelters unable to access housing in a single year.

We need to reprioritize. Graphic comparing the cost of the ongoing war on Iran with housing assistance. The top half, over a grayscale image of barbed wire and cloudy skies, states: “The first six days of the war on Iran cost $11.3 billion.” The bottom half, over a photo of keys and colorful house models, states: “That’s more than enough to provide housing for everyone in a homeless shelter in the U.S. for a single year at $9.6 billion.” The bottom reads, “We need to reprioritize.” National Priorities Project at the Institute for Policy Studies logo appears at the bottom. by @ggjalliance

Last week GGJ brought grassroots and global movement voices together during #NYClimateWeek. In the face of the fossil-fueled climate crisis, AI and big tech data center exploitation, and escalating U.S. imperialist violence of this moment, our members and allies spoke to the centrality of Indigenous wisdom and science, demilitarization, and stopping the rise of the authoritarian right as critical to the fight for #ClimateJustice.

GGJ was with our members @puebloactionalliance, @native_mvmnt, @jtalliance, @vetsaboutface, @ien_earth, @organizacion_boricua, @micronesiaclimatealliance, @drumnyc, @indigenousclimateaction and allies from @nofalsesolutions, @atingidosporbarragens, @the.wovenproject, @foe_int, @nationalpriorities, @ips_dc, @codepinkalert and many more…

Our members held events uplifting frontline fights against fossil fuels, big tech, and extraction from New Mexico to Alaska to Micronesia. We co-sponsored a screening of Earth’s Greatest Enemy, joined a discussion on War and Climate, honored the 30th anniversary of Just Transition Alliance, and held a Global Climate Movements Exchange to grapple with the question “What time is it on the clock of the world?”

We call on world leaders and governments to heed the call of social movements - to stop corporate greenwashing, divest from war, fossil fuels, and false climate solutions, and invest in care and an economy of life!

Last Friday, September 25th, over 100+ frontline community members, organizers, activsits and movement leaders from local New York organizations, Indigenous peoples from the so-called US, Global South countries and Europe came together for “What Time Is it? Global Climate Movements Strategy Exchange. About ~40+ DRUM members from across all our bases engaged leading chants, listening exchanges, an anti-imperialist panel with Movement Against Dams and Climate Crisis (MAB/MAR), Friends of the Earth International and Pueblo Action Alliance. There were sharp grassroots internationalist perspectives shared assessments about the shifts in the conjuncture—the compounding crisis of imperialism that threatens and militarizes our homelands and peoples and offers an opportunity for people-to-people organizing for climate justice across the borders. We had dynamic small group discussions and took up the proposal to increase our cooridnation in this next period in defense of our peoples, lands and futures. Much gratitude to our partners: @ggjalliance @foe_int @atingidosporbarragens @grassrootsintl by @ggjalliance

Some photos from last week’s New York City Climate Week! More to come.

NY Climate Week is an opportunity to engage with funders on: A) the challenges communities around the world face from environmental and climate disasters, and B) how movements of those very communities have solutions to these global crises.

The whirlwind week is also an opportunity to connect with others, to continue building a movement-centered ecosystem for the planet and people over profit.

We were honored to take part in panels, discussions, and community building with partners and allies like @wamip.global, @iala.pr, @colmenacimarrona, @afsafrica, @ggjalliance, @americanjewishworldservice, @thousandcurrents, @globalgreengrants, @urgentactionfund @thousand_currents, @foe_us, @pesticideaction, @whyhunger and more

Let’s continue uplifting movement-led solutions to the climate crisis. by @ggjalliance
