Soft Grid (M.A. 2026)

Soft Grid is a textile low-voltage power system that frees electrical infrastructure from within the wall and brings it into the room as a flexible layer. A conductive textile strap carries energy through the space while becoming a design element itself. Ceramic mounts allow it to be routed freely, while clip-on USB-V adapters replace fixed outlets. Direct interaction with the strap controls products such as lights and speakers, creating an open, adaptable system that connects power, use and spatial design.

After almost two years of collaborative work with @ichendorfmilano it is finally time to reveal Sources!

The Sources collection highlights—through its textured surface—the natural path that water takes as it filters through different layers of soil, stone, and natural minerals. The very shape of the glass has been modeled with inspiration from these elements, capturing their irregularity and depth in the glass surface.

The result is both tactile and visual: an object that tells the story of the origin of water. Glasses come in clear or partially frosted finish.

I am so excited about this and everything that is to come and want to thank all the people at @ichendorfmilano for their trust and support! I will be sharing some insights into the developement process in the following weeks :)

Excited to share that my project Layers was announced as one of the finalists for the Rimowa Design Prize 2025! Addressing the topic of hostile architecture and trying to provide an inclusive alternative it is a modular bench system for the public space.

I had the opportunity to develop my project even further with the help of my mentor @niklas.bildstein.zaar which has been a great experience.

Special thanks to @bastianfischer_ for everything during this process!

Washer is an indirect luminaire and the second developed product for the Soft Grid System. Like the other system products it features a round, disc shape with a slight indentation for your thumb. The light flooding the wall creates a soft glow, highlighting the strap.

Spot is a luminaire and the first of three distinct products for the Soft Grid System. Working with the same connection logic like the clip, it shows how the strap becomes interactive input, eliminating the need for additional switches. On the Diffusor is a very light etching, visually connecting the spot to the clip and subtly suggesting the correct thumb placement.

The Clip is the open interface to the Soft Grid system. Inspired by clothes pegs, it sinks it‘s little „teeth“ into the conductive strap and provides flexible power via a USB-C port. A small LED informs the user if the clip connected successfully.

The first and most essential component of the Soft Grid system are the technical ceramic construction units that guide the low voltage strap along the wall and into the room. With just two units in either white porcelain or terracotta every possible room situation can be supplied with flexible power. Inspired by vintage ceramic cable holders, the construction units use a thoughtfully designed geometry, ensuring a tight fit.

Drape Collection
interactive ceramic luminaires

Replacing conventional switches, the portable lamps are controlled through intuitive gestures such as tilting, twisting, and movement. Referencing the softness of folded textiles, the pleated porcelain housings encourage a gentle, mindful touch. Integrated sensors and LEDs combine contemporary interaction design with traditional ceramic craftsmanship. Portable and USB-C rechargeable, the lamps unite functionality, materiality, and a shared formal language. by @gickneipel

DC02
With a rounded yet weighted base, it responds to tilts in any direction to shift brightness and color — but always settles back where it belongs. Flipped upside down, it gently switches off.

Touching it activates the luminaire, functioning as a bright, neutral flashlight. Tilt it upwards to transform the beam into a warm ambient glow. Place it face down to switch off.
