Not ideal to be fitting an old unevenly stretched extremely dusty runner in a heatwave. All made much worse by me insisting we fit it upside down with the pile underneath. I have to sew an extension for the last/first step as it isn’t quite long enough 🤬. Really pleased with this window restoration. We fitted cork panels on the very bumpy returns behind the shutters. I wish I’d taken photos of how it was before. There was a heating valve that projected through a hole in the left shutter… by @gillianpotkins

Hung this little tapestry by @_jillyedwards in the kitchen and the sun came out briefly, shining through my stained glass window. It will catch morning light, especially in the winter. Lovely taken in St Erth by @gillianpotkins

We have spent two days in Paris seeing only sculpture so far. Completely immersed in detail, matter and making. On the first day we walked right across the city (I don’t like the metro) and spent time with the work of @cathydemonchaux at the Palais de Tokyo. I was moved by the intricacy and fragility, the desire and anxiety. It is a very open, honest, absorbing and generous exposure of herself and her practice (1-11). The following day we went to the Giacometti Foundation which I didn’t think I wanted to visit (another long walk) but I loved the small exhibition which contained a lot of the decorative utilitarian(ish) objects he made for the interior designer Jean-Michel Frank @fondation_giacometti (12-20). The building the foundation is housed in is pretty special too. And because I can’t include more than 20 photos I’ll save Bordelle for another post… I’m loving Paris ATM taken in Paris, France by @gillianpotkins

I had a significant birthday on Sunday. We had a nice weekend away planned but early on Saturday my mother had a fall. She was taken into hospital. When I got to see her after an 8 hour journey she was isolated, confused, uncomfortable, unwashed, unfed, untreated. The nurses said she could go home but it could be at least another 6 hour wait for transport. I got into a taxi with her and got her settled at home, clean and comfortable. Simon and I tried to pick up with the planned weekend but we’d lost a lot of spirit and we weren’t feeling festive. Remarkably my photos don’t show the struggle. So maybe that’s a good thing? Or maybe not? I went back up to London again the day after and I’m sick of trains. Mum is okay

Went to Bath for a night and had a wonderful time. We saw both the Glenn Brown shows @no1royalcrescent and @holburnemuseumbath which thrilled, inspired and haunted. We happened to be there for Jilly Edward’s opening @8hollandstreet. We treated ourselves to one of her pieces (our birthdays are soon we reasoned). Then back home to sweet peas and sea.
