I have two days off this week and what better way to spend the first day of October than driving through the most wonderful scenery in Eryri! It’s been gorgeous weather with mountain rain just adding to the drama and beauty. I felt so happy today and overwhelmed by how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place. Fall is wonderful - the weather is still nice and you basically get the park to yourself because all the crowds have gone home! What a joy. by @gillybeejay

September has been a crazy busy month! Multiple visitors (Jakub’s mom, my parents and aunt!), High School Musical in Manchester, maybe seeing Henry on the beach (??), winning the ballot for tickets to SNL UK (suuuuch an amazing experience!), 20,000 steps around the old London neighbourhoods, plenty of driving (with beautiful views back into Wales), back to Manchester for a wonderful Arkells concert (🥰🥰) and trying to soaking up my last lunch breaks at the beach before I start a new job next week! It’s been a LOT. A lot of good stuff, but full on especially as I’m about to make a change to my routine, the people I see and plenty of familiarity. Let’s see what October and the fall bring! by @gillybeejay

A very delightful (although very busy and full on!) bank holiday spent in London and Brighton!

From the theatre to the friends and family to the food - it was a very fulfilling weekend jam packed with all the things I love. It was really nice to be back in Hove, wandering the old streets and visiting lovely people and places.

We got to see Jamie Muscato in Cabaret (still not my favourite production despite seeing one of my favourite actors!), Beetlejuice (so fun and such catchy songs!), Pride (beautiful, moving, funny and inspiring) and Jane Eyre (massive blast from the past - beautiful production).

We ate all the good stuff at the Open Market in Brighton, Babble and The Urchin - oooh The Urchin (still amazing!), had a mandatory ice cream from Marocco’s and brunch at Baked.

A wonderful Sunday morning swim at Saltdean was a much needed little break in amongst all the concrete along with a nice long wander through Hove on Sunday afternoon.

Lovely stay with Karen and Neil (cocktail master!) and visits with Jenny, Stu, Lyndsey and Rob! by @gillybeejay

Lil’ Macsen has had a busy summer of sleeping, playing in the garage, sleeping, chewing TVs (🙃), sleeping, cuddling his parents, sleeping in curtains, being cute, playing with new toys, hunting bugs, watching the world go by from his window perches and some more sleeping. Between 18-24 months now, he is maybe calming down a little bit and settling into our morning routine more, he is loving food, had his first and only hairball and is just as curious as ever! He’s playful, loving, hilarious, sweet and cheeky. We can’t imagine life without him. by @gillybeejay

Living in North Wales is pretty damn cool. One of my favourite things about living here has been seeing @thedukestheatreco every summer performing in Conwy Castle. It’s just always a magical evening. This year was once again a brilliant night. From chatting to some lovely locals in the queue, watching the sun go down across Conwy and just sitting outside under a beautiful blue sky watching an awesome 6-person theatre company deliver a wonderful performance. ♥️♥️ by @gillybeejay

Since the start of July, we’ve had a juvenile herring gull take up residence in our work garden. He showed up with a fluffy little head and not enough feathers to fly yet. We’re pretty sure he fell off the two storey roof and after about a week, seemed to be abandoned by his parents.

So, I got in touch with a local gull rescue to get some advice on the right thing to do - I didn’t want to abandon him but I also didn’t want to make him reliant on humans! They suggested providing him plenty of water for drinking and for his feathers, safety from predators while he couldn’t fly, making sure he had shade and then if we could, feeding him some wet cat food. He got very used to the routine, ready for breakfast, lunch and dinner - and often sat with me during my lunch break outside, or visited me at the reception door.

But he started getting stronger and stronger, figuring out “how to bird”. I watched his first flight attempts - tiny little hops, collecting twigs and seeds - cleaning his feathers and waterproofing them, defending his space from the other local birds - magpies, pigeons… and then starting to get up on benches, then short flights in the car park, and eventually, longer flights and landing on the roof.

As he got stronger and bigger, I got the advice to taper off his food and just offer him some moistened dry kibble. For the last few days, he’s now been flying for most of the day and just coming back for a little snack. It’s actually been fascinating to see him grow and develop, watching all his instincts kick in and I’ve grown quite fond of the little guy. He’s given me a greater appreciation for the gulls - they really are cool birds, it’s just us silly humans that feed them things they shouldn’t eat in places they shouldn’t eat - they just see opportunity! Can you blame them?

July was hot! I had additional cryosurgery on my foot, watched alllll the High School Musical content, ate a lot of yummy food - in Manchester, Rhos on Sea and at home, watched a lot of sunsets, replaced a TV when our little rascal decided he liked the taste of OLED screens, spent time in the garden - cleaning and relaxing, saw a few shows - Fun Home and Something Rotten (again!), hung out with a local cat at work, hung out with my little monkey… and what’s taken the most time? Feeding, watering and caring for my little gull baby (Henry) - he’s so close to flight now, it’ll be any day now. It’s been fascinating to watch him grow, heartwarming to have him follow me around and eat lunch with me and then also to see him learning how to become an adult bird! A chill (although very warm!) month before things start to get busier in August. by @gillybeejay

And to finish off the weekend, we did the Torrent Walk, a woodland walk following a rocky river. Although almost completely shaded and only an hour, the heat made this one quite challenging, especially as it’s all uphill at the end. But it was well worth it and I’d love to see this one in different seasons. So peaceful and gorgeous… we’re so lucky to live close to all of this amazing nature. by @gillybeejay

Absolutely gorgeous walk - the Precipice Walk - early on Sunday morning to beat the heat. I really loved this one - beautiful mountains, trees, sea in the distance… so peaceful. And relatively straight forward… as long as you’re alright with heights. by @gillybeejay
