What a week! 🤩🧘🐵🐶🦖

Yesterday was the second @happyyogawales members’ retreat - a chance for members who practice at home alone or with me on Zoom to get together for a morning of yoga, somatics, relaxation and delicious nibbles followed by steamy sauna and dip in the sea! 🥶

I also topped up my oxytocin levels with a whole heap of animal-love! 🥰

First lemur cuddles at @hoozooanddinosaurworld and then some serious puppy love at @crufts! 🐕🐶

Some of my wonderful subscribers have already noticed there was no newsletter yesterday – thanks for checking in! ☺️🙏🏼 All is well, I just decided to practice what I teach by taking the evening off after a jam-packed week. Normal service will resume shortly so keep an eye on your inbox! 👀

👉 Get the newsletter and find out how to join the membership for just £10/month at HappyYogaWales.com

Today I saw Mel Robbins live and something shifted.

She asked us to name the one thing we wanted this year and to complete the sentence "This is the year I _____"

And even though I want so many things (love, growth, balance, fun, peace, travel, abs, more sleep, the ability to curl my hair) I wrote this:

“This is the year I believe in my worth.”

And in that moment, I knew that it’s all possible. Not someday. But this year. If I back myself and do the work.

Mel’s daughter Sawyer shared something that really stuck. When she was struggling, she stopped calling her goals goals. She started calling them promises.

“This isn’t a goal. It’s a promise I’m making to myself to live the life I deserve.”

That’s the promise I’m making to me.

Here’s what else landed like a gut punch in the best way that only Mel Robbins can -

👉Your dreams aren’t meant to make sense to anyone else, they’re yours for a reason. If those around you don't understand, let them.

👉Don’t let fear of future judgement stop you from showing up today. If anyone judges your choices, let them.

👉If you just did the things you didn't want to do (for me that's like going to bed early, eating right, working out, making sales calls) you’d already have the life you do wanted (truth bomb).

👉Getting what you want is not meant to be easy, it takes time and it takes guts. Do the hard things.

👉Remember the 5 second rule, don't give your brain time to sabotage you. 5,4,3,2,1 let's go!

👉Doing what you want? That’s not indulgence. That’s love. Every time you take action, that's showing yourself love.

👉A big segment was on time. You have time, there is plenty of time to try new things, to do the things you want, to create a new life. Use the time you have.

👉Comparison isn’t a cage. It’s a compass. If they can, you can.

👉Others are leading the way, not locking it down. Be inspired. Someone's win is not your loss.

👉You owe others nothing. But you owe yourself everything.

👉Let them be them, let you be you.

Mel said it. I felt it. Now I’m going to live it.

I have time. So I’m going to use it to fulfill my promises to myself.

What's your promise to yourself?

Our hearts are a little broken at CBHQ as we say goodbye to one of our Founder members, Gillian.

She moved to Wales with her lovely husband Jakub this week. And whilst we wish them all the best with their new adventure we are a little sad to lose such a brilliant part of our community.

Gillian joined us in 2021, made life long friends and became part of our fabric. I've loved watching her build her social circle, with couples dinners, monthly meets and 121 catch ups with the tribe that she met through us.

Hearing her talk about her journey and how fundamental we have been in making Brighton feel like home has been incredibly humbling. It's literally what we are here for and to see it work is just the best feeling.

As the founder of Connected Brighton I've appreciated her loyalty, commitment and friendship. And enjoyed her company immensely over the past 3 years. Thank you so much Gillian for being part of this with me!

We are sending you to those Welsh hills with nothing but love, but please come back and visit us soon!

Lyndsey ❤️

As if it's almost a week since the UQ 10 year anniversary awards evening (last Friday)!!! 😲

As usual, I had the best time with the best colleagues and friends 🥰 absolutely ADORE my job and feel so incredibly lucky, and proud, to be part of the incredible success story that is Uni-Quest 🧡

A stunning day and night - I survived hosting (which would never have happened without my very very capable and hilarious hosting counterpart: Josh), bagged myself the 'Legendary Leader' award which was accompanied by the most special nomination comments and smashed out decorations alongside an incredible awards planning committee 🥹

Roll on the next 10 years! 🧡

Thanks to Adam and Ruffles for being excellent hosts as always, and for a cracking roast too!

This was especially lovely as celebrating the birthday of Gillian, one of our loved members with fellow members Morwen and Carys!

Get down to a show at the Bedford Tavern and support this fabulous backstreet boozer.

Loved seeing everyone last night for our first event of 2022.

We all braved the weather to get together for our sold out night at craft beer bar The BRZN Arms, kept warm with delicious food from Dirty Mac and entertained by our brilliant Connected Brighton crew!

Thank you to our returning members Tony, Rebecca, Gillian & Jakub, Jenny, Jessie, Katya, Neale, Jeanette, Emma and Karl. And welcome to our newbies John, Talal, Adam & Giles! You were all excellent company, we LOVED watching everyone chatting and sharing stories.

Want to join in the fun? Next week we have dinner at The Salt Room and our third Ping Pong tournament at the North Laine Brewhouse.

Meet Gillian!

I've loved getting to know Gillian at our events, she's an absolute ray of sunshine and it's always fun to see her.

Here's her testimonial -

"Connected Brighton was exactly what I was looking for. Emerging from lockdown in a new city and permanently working from home, I found the idea of not knowing people where I live quite scary and a bit strange. Also the fact that I moved away from a group of friends/colleagues that I was used to being with and not having kids, I found my options limited in terms of ways to connect!

Connected Brighton offered exactly what I was looking for! I'm not hugely extroverted but I like feeling connection and meeting like-minded people. Every Connected Brighton event I’ve been to, I’ve found it so easy to talk and get along with those who come along. Lyndsey also creates such a nice, comfortable environment and is always there to keep the conversation going or introduce people who haven’t met before.

I’ve met some lovely people through Connected Brighton so far - it’s nice to show up at an event and see someone you recognise, but also mixing that with meeting new people as well.

I also love the small businesses that are being championed and supported through the events, as well as on the weekly newsletter. It’s such a nice way to get to know the city you live in as well as support local and smaller businesses.

I’m really looking forward to more events in 2022, trying new things, meeting new people and continuing to connect with those I’ve already had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you, Connected Brighton! :)"

Gillian you are the best, and I love that you bring your lovely husband Jakob out with you to join in the fun too! So happy we connected!

About last night...what a night!

We held a joint event at the very chic co-working space WRAP with drinks provided by Mamas Cocktails to celebrate and showcase the local artists whose work is displayed throughout the building.

There was a lovely mix of the artists themselves, WRAP members and Connected Brighton members all having a lovely time admiring the art over fizz and margaritas.

Thanks to team WRAP and the Mamas crew for an excellent evening. And to the artists for such beautiful displays!

We will be doing more events together with WRAP and Mamas next year, look out for details!
