If you can’t wear something in more than three ways, it’s a maybe ✨

That’s the closet philosophy at @vavra.newyork, and the shop’s private label bags hold up to it better than most. Dianne Vavra designed them herself from deadstock designer fabric, and she names each source as she moves down the rack. The first bag was cut from @dsquared2. Next to it sits one made from @marcjacobs. She saved @oscardelarenta for last, even though she admits the fabric is hard to make out in this lighting. You pick your own chain, and that one choice decides whether the bag is a clutch, a crossbody or a shoulder bag. When she wants to change the look entirely, she simply pins on a brooch.

She calls hers her emotional support bag, which could be the most honest thing anyone has said about accessories all year. Her rules for vintage are just as clear. When she finds a Bakelite bag with no cracks, she gets it, because you’re not going to see it again. Before opening VAVRA, she spent about two decades leading press at @diorbeauty, which might explain why her eye feels so sure of itself. Off duty, she’s obsessed with sweats, and her idea of dressing up often starts with a faux fur hoodie.

What’s the one thing in your closet that passes the three-way test?

For a lot of women, desire is more an RSVP than a spark🔥

That’s our shorthand for what Dr. Loni Hersh calls responsive desire, one of the quieter revelations in part two of our Counter Intelligence conversation with the founder of Peaceful Pelvis Physical Therapy. Wanting often builds out of touch, closeness and actually feeling relaxed. Add a demanding job, a toddler or pain to the mix, and expecting desire to make the first move starts to look like an unfair ask. No gummy has figured out how to fix that.

So, we asked her to walk the intimate wellness aisle with us. Good lube made the cut. So did Kiwi, a pelvic massager from @thepelvicpeople that she recommends to her own clients. The idea of a universal “female Viagra” was politely retired, since there isn’t one, and the med-spa menu got a gentle edit too. “Vaginal rejuvenation,” it turns out, is a marketing term with a very good publicist ✨

What she’d really like is for the information to show up earlier. Right now, most people learn pelvic floor therapy exists because a friend or a doula mentions it in passing. Her version starts in grade-school health class, taught as plainly as the puberty unit.

Her spiciest take fit in five words: pelvic floor therapy ≠ Kegels.

What’s the one thing in that aisle you’ve always side-eyed?

The most telling thing at @printempsnewyork isn’t on a shelf. It’s how long the place wants you to stay ✨

We started in the photo booth by the door. A strip of paper photos is one of the few souvenirs a store can hand you that the internet can’t.

From there, Jamie and Michelle wandered through a shoe room under a ceiling that won’t sit still and onto the beauty floor with no straight lines at all. The rooms curve into each other, and there’s no aisle to hurry you along. Their first stop was the counter from @borgheseroma, where the serum capsules took a mirror and a few minutes to try. Nobody minded. That was the point.

Fragrance slowed things down even more, and the table from @goldfield_and_banks_australia turned a quick sniff into a long conversation. After that came a wall of candles set into marble arches, a peek at the treatment rooms, and a lip touch-up under the vanity lights.

The natural perfumes from @abelfragrance make the best case for the whole building, because you can’t know a scent until it’s lived on your skin for a while. Department stores spent years trying to move as fast as the internet. This one would rather keep you for the afternoon, and it worked on us.

We ended with a toast at Salon Vert and one more strip on the way out 📸

What’s the last store that made you forget to check the time? 🇫🇷

The slowest way to powder your nose is having a moment 💖

Gold compacts are back at the dinner table, mesh bags click shut, and lockets now hold lip balm instead of a photo. Every one of them adds a step. That’s exactly why they’re working, because when everything else takes one tap, the extra click starts to feel like the luxury. We’re calling it glamorous inefficiency. ✨

The Gilded Age returns for its fourth season November 1 on HBO, so expect a lot more of this. The smart version isn’t costume, though. It’s the old ritual rebuilt for how we actually live. Take the Médaillon from @diorbeauty, which turns a house motif dating back to 1947 into a lip balm locket for the back of your phone. Swipe for that, a weighted, stone-like compact from Fluff, and the quiet comeback of the kiss-lock.

Some of this started with a visit to @vavra.newyork and a long look at Dianne Vavra’s vintage cases. She’s hosting Gilded Age tours of New York on November 11 and 27, and our conversation with her is coming soon.

So which would you actually carry? Tell us below. 👇

If you missed Field + Supply in Kingston, look out for it in New York City this December 5 and 6 at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in Chelsea.
We’re Gingergeist, and we track trends across beauty, fashion, and wellness. At the fall market, two things stood out to us: vintage workwear getting a second life, and wellness hiding in places you wouldn’t think to look. We’ll have the full breakdown next week, so follow along for what to watch for in December. taken in Hutton Brickyards by @gingergeisty

You'll track your sleep score, test your hormones, and stack supplements like it's an Olympic sport. 💊📊 But the muscle holding up your entire core? Most of us have never been taught a single thing about it.

Meet your pelvic floor. 👋

We sat down with Dr. Loni Hersh, founder of Peaceful Pelvis Physical Therapy in Orangeburg, NY, who has spent twenty years as a physical therapist. Her days go to everything the wellness feed scrolls right past: postpartum recovery, diastasis recti, C-section scars, leaking mid-workout, and the pelvic shifts of perimenopause that nobody mentions until they're happening to you.

A few things she told us that stopped us in our tracks:

💧 Leaking during a workout is common. That doesn't make it normal, and you don't have to live with it.
🩹 A C-section is major abdominal surgery, not just a scar.
⏳ Pelvic care should start in your 40s.

October is National Physical Therapy Month and Menopause Awareness Month, so the timing felt right. Our conversation ran so long we split it in two. ✂️

Before there was Gingergeist, there were two redheads who couldn’t stop noticing things 💖

Our founders, Jamie Ross and Michelle Rotbart, have spent nearly two decades inside fashion and beauty, helping brands see what was coming long before it had a name. They come at it from different generations and different angles, and that difference is a big part of how this publication thinks.

So we sat them down at a yellow table in the sun, two iced matchas between them, and asked the questions we’d been saving. Where did the name come from? What does spotting the spark actually mean to them? What would they tell themselves back at their very first project together?

Then we asked each to describe the other as a beverage, a snack, and an emoji. Somewhere in there, champagne, a croissant, and a red lipstick made an appearance 🍾🥐💄 We’ll let you work out who earned which.

This is who’s behind every issue.

We spelled fashion month out and it came back GINGER 💖 Honestly, we couldn't have planned it better.

G is for gold, and by Paris it was everywhere. Crinkled metallic trenches and gilt brocade at @ysl , plus a pair of gold jeans at @dior that we're still thinking about. Gold flatters nearly every skin tone in warm weather, and Ayurveda has tied it to well-being for centuries. Gingers have always known this.

I is for lingerie, worn on the outside this time. Lace bralettes as tops and a bra-shaped handbag at @prada, slips and camisoles at @fendi, rhinestone balconettes under blazers at @erdem. The early '90s called.

N is for newspaper. Bold poster prints at @driesvannoten and a woven leather newspaper notebook at @bottegavenetaworld turned everyday reading into a luxury object. It pairs nicely with our masthead obsession from No. 39.

G is for gravity. Silk and jersey at @tomford draped so it looks like it's sliding off the body, mid-fall. Beautifully precarious.

E is for embellishment. Crystal-covered sheer pieces at @theattico, a ladybug-filled garden at @thombrowne, and 63 different skirts at Prada. Less was not on the menu.

R is for sheer. Yes, we cheated. No, we're not sorry. It was on nearly every runway, from Dior to @maxmara to @stellamccartney.

The fun part is where it all lands next: décolleté care, body makeup making a comeback, perfume bottles that look like they're floating, frosted vellum packaging, sheered-out lip and cheek formulas. If it can be embellished, someone will.

After a few quiet seasons, fashion wants to be looked at again. If you're building for 2027, start with the letter that scares you most.

By the time a look reaches the runway, it’s already old news in this room ✨

So we went backstage first, microphone in hand, at the Spring/Summer 2027 show from @verdavainneofficial at Cipriani Wall Street. The decisions were made at the tables. Printed look cards laid out one by one. Full-size product lined up like inventory. A team working with the calm that only comes from knowing exactly where this is going. This isn’t where anyone experiments. The experimenting happened weeks ago.

The look itself was quietly confident: a clean red lip and a sleek, high ponytail, the kind of beauty that knows not to compete with the clothes. Makeup by @yukaito_mua, hair by @mideyahparkerhair 💖

The runway is the announcement. This room is the signal. 🔍 taken in Cipriani Wall Street by @gingergeisty

One year, we split an advent calendar between us, and nobody knew what was behind the next door ✨

That afternoon is still the best case we know for the format, and we kept coming back to it while pricing out this season's calendars. Our favorite for a shared countdown is still the one from @typologyparis, the French brand we first fell for in Paris.

Discovery is the real product here. The best line on it came from @esteelalonde, who wrote about the thrill of a stranger meeting her brand for the first time behind a December door. That door is in the YOU Beauty calendar, where a Shea Butter Brick from @mirrorwater.earth is waiting. It's exactly why we'd love to see more retailers fill calendars with tiny brands nobody has heard of yet.

Then there are the ones built to stay on display long after the 24th. Fifteen surprises hide behind the jewel-handled drawers from @charlottetilbury, including four full sizes and, for the first time, two accessories: a mini charm makeup bag and a white quartz gua sha. Once the last drawer is open, the whole thing becomes a jewelry box, which makes a pretty good argument for $220. The countdown from @acquadiparma is a paper hotel in the Dolomites, priced at $1,022 with duties included. A craftsman's toolbox dotted with little wooden figures holds the edition from @diptyque. For @lancomeofficial, it's a pink Parisian palace drawn by Octave Marsal. Over at @beekman1802, the team built a dollhouse café with a tiny barista goat, and about one in five shoppers is buying two so they can give one away.

The rest of our roundup is arithmetic. Stated value is a figure each brand calculates on its own, so we lined up nine calendars by price, value, and full-size count. At $395, the calendar from @libertylondon looks like a steal until US tax and duties bring it to $475.05. Inside a red teddy vanity case, the minis from @drbarbarasturm are priced generously, which is how a single full size adds up to $1,466 in value.

So which one is worth it? That depends on how many of those doors open onto something you haven't already tried.

“Love a red on red look” was our verdict on the red hat, and we stand by it ❤️

Before the first look came out, we were under the chandeliers at Cipriani Wall Street trading fashion week memories, the kind that pile up once you’ve sat through enough seasons to have favorites.

Then the Spring/Summer 2027 collection from @verdavainneofficial gave us a few new ones. The saturated yellow, the painterly florals, and a magenta mini with red heels all held their own at arm’s reach, which is the beauty of a New York Fashion Week show that feels more like a salon than a runway. Give it a season, and this one will be one of the stories we tell before the next show.

"Ignore the first few slices." ✨

That note was tucked into the PR package for the new eye patches from @glowrecipe, and it might be the most honest line of beauty's whole slicer week. We spotted it in an unboxing by @thelipsticklesbians and haven't stopped thinking about it since.

Here's the quick recap, because it all moved fast. On September 17, a teaser from @fentyskin called its twist-up patch tube "first of its kind." Within days, a strikingly similar tube from Glow Recipe was on camera. The version from @hudabeauty surfaced right after. Then came a sneak peek from @vitamasques. Meanwhile, over in Korea, @wonderbath_official had been selling one since July.

So, who actually invented it? Reporting from @marieclairemag traced the hardware to a stock component from a Korean packaging maker, sold straight out of a catalog with a 5,000-unit minimum. Being first used to mean you invented something. Now it mostly means your PR team hit send first.

We genuinely like the slicer, though. One twist gives you one fresh patch, nothing else gets touched, and it's far easier for anyone with limited grip. What it needs now is the fine print: how much active is in each slice, how many patches are really in there, and a fill window, please.

Our favorite patch of the week skipped the drama and came in a tin of sardines. It's the reusable silicone mask from @dieuxskin, covered in little blue fish, and you bring your own serum. The collab with @fishwife is the kind nobody can order from a catalog.
