ᴛʜᴇ ᴋɪɴᴅ ᴏғ ғʀɪᴇɴᴅs ᴡʜᴏ ᴛᴜʀɴ ᴀ ᴄɪᴛʏ ɪɴᴛᴏ ᴀ sᴛᴏʀʏ: Amazing time discovering Tbilisi! Great food, wines and even better company. We’ve had such a blast. Last day today before leaving home. Some more sightseeing, filling my belly with typical Georgian food for the last time and making the last memories of this trip❤️. Nice reel coming in soon 🤩.

𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐫𝐚 (𝟏𝟑 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬). 𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘥.

After 13 years as a member and 4 years as a coach, I have decided to step away from rugby. I gave this club 15–20 hours a week as a coach for years. In four seasons, I missed four trainings. I showed up consistently, prepared, and committed. You don’t just leave in the middle of a season without a big reason. I won’t go into details, but choosing my mental well-being was necessary. Not because the work became too much, but because dedication without mutual respect eventually becomes draining. When effort is questioned instead of appreciated, and clear communication doesn’t lead to change, there comes a moment where you have to step back. Reaching your limit isn’t weakness. It’s often the result of trying, explaining, adjusting, and giving more, until there’s nothing healthy left to give. And when your response to that exhaustion is highlighted more than the circumstances that created it, you know it’s time.

I truly hope the players continue to find their place within the club. I hope the foundation that was laid keeps growing. I hope the structure improves where it needs to, that the legacy continues, and that the players receive the level of training, guidance, and support they deserve

That said, I’m proud of what we built! We grew from barely one team to three. I coached over 50 players weekly. We founded a second team that went on to win prizes at our last tournament. I also stood firmly for inclusion when a trans ban was being discussed within rugby Netherlands. With some regulations, it was prevented here, while other countries chose differently. Our club became a safe place for trans and non-binary players. That impact matters.

Rugby has given me friendships, lessons, travel, growth. It shaped a big part of my life. Now it’s time to close this chapter. To go where I feel valued. To go where my presence is welcomed. To go where my energy is matched.

New headshots came in and I’ve already changed my favourite about six times. Still leaning towards number 4 though. What do you think? Yellow or green? Which one?

ʜᴏᴡ ʟᴏᴡ ᴄᴀɴ ʏᴏᴜ ɢᴏ - Doing hand offs and fending people off is my absolute fave on the field. Trying to find and make the space to go for a big run. First match of the season is in the books. Super proud of striving for our club to play in the official competition as @amsterdamlowlanders , being Out&Proud, here TK play proper rugby.

𝟑𝟒 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 🤣. Turned 34 last Tuesday, and instead of worrying about getting older, I’ve been thinking about how much my perspective has changed. A few years ago, I was convinced my physical peak was behind me. Now, I’m still getting fitter, stronger and more curious about what my body can do.

Sure, I need to stretch more and recovery takes about 3 business days now hahaha. But I’m genuinely happy with what my body can do. And pretty excited to see what else it’s got in it.

I had a work conversation related to the Dutch Ministry of Health, so it felt like a good reason to put a little extra effort into my outfit. Sporty casual is still my default, but I always enjoy dressing up a bit when the occasion calls for it.

𝘚𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘨𝘺𝘮 𝘱𝘪𝘤. 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 😅 Last week my body wasn’t really cooperating. Since I got hit by a car a few years ago, things sometimes don’t quite sit right, mainly my left leg and back. But everything seems loosened up again, training felt good, and today came with a chest pump. I’m actually pretty proud of the gains. Upper body has always been my weak point, but we’re getting there. So yeah, felt like sharing this one.

ʟᴀsᴛ ᴄʜᴀɴᴄᴇ(s) ᴛᴏ ɢᴇᴛ sᴏᴍᴇ ᴍᴀᴛᴄʜᴇs ɪɴ ʙᴇғᴏʀᴇ ᴡᴇ sᴡɪᴛᴄʜ ʙᴀᴄᴋ ᴛᴏ ʀᴜɢʙʏ: I played soo much better today than last week, resulting in a 6-2 6-3 win. (Last weekend I had my first singles match since 2012 🫣). Tomorrow I play the 1/16th round already. Hoping to be able to amp up my game a bit more again, the more game time the better I get, after not playing for so long. Some slight issues with my obliques not being used to serve that much kick serves with power anymore, hopefully that will be fine tomorrow. Hope to win and play a bit more, before we start to get back into the rugby season on the 30th already.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐚. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩. A few years ago, every trip had a rugby tournament attached to it. When that chapter ended, my bestfriend and I decided the trips didn’t have to. So the tradition stayed. This year: Barcelona. Sun, sea, rooftop cocktails, great conversations, late nights, culture, good food and a few sore heads in the morning. The rugby was the reason these trips started. The friendship is the reason they still happen.
Some things change. Some people don’t. Happy that this tradition stayed ❤️.
