Eagleman 70.3.... what a crazy day in Cambridge. 1st Place AG, 4th Place Amateur, and a 24 mph bike average. The swim was cancelled due to a small craft advisory and the winds, rain and chill were something very unusual for this course. I decided I had was going to rip the bike as best as I could and see if I could run off it. Definitely wasn’t sure what to expect today, but my goal was to go out and redefine myself. Had a blast despite the crazy! Congratulations to everyone who raced today!

#tbt to Kona 2014. It was here that I learned what I was made of. I met one of my guardian angels that day. He taught me what it meant to push when my head wanted my body to stop. I think about the last 6 miles and wonder if it was real. 📸: @goshiggygo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With 10K to go my head almost convinced my body to walk. "Just through one aid station" it said... (I had messed up my nutrition plan and was struggling not to puke. [My belly felt like a giant balloon]) As I went to break stride an arm hooked through mine and I looked over thinking wtf. This guy was looking at me. He said, "hell no you don't. I've been matching you step for step all day. You are NOT walking." It was that instant I got out of my head and swallowed hard. He somehow convinced me to keep moving. As we were running he was asking me all sorts of questions. I knew what he was trying to do, but I couldn't respond. I was really trying hard not to throw up on him. I mustered "please just talk. I honestly can't" His name was Mark, he lived in Georgia or one of the Carolina's (can't recall exactly), his GF was at the race, it was his 3rd time in Kona, he was a personal trainer.... I learned a lot. He taught me to high five the little ones on the way in for "power" he was loud, energetic and had an excitable personality. He brought me to the last half mile. I could hear Mike Reilly. We waved to his GF and he said "let's bring it home!" I said "this is your time, you go... you brought me here and I'm eternally grateful." With that he said "great job today!" and he took off. At the finish I was out of it, but with it enough that I wanted to find him.... He was nowhere.... (I even looked in the paper at the official results to see his name) Every time I think about this I get the chills.... still eternally grateful to a complete stranger who changed the outcome of my day. *for those of you that read all of this. It's moments like this that teach us who we are and what we are really capable of accomplishing. #digdeep and when you think you have #digdeeper

We had a great weekend hanging out with Lex, meeting some of her friends, and attending our first VT football game. Since it was Homecoming weekend the vibe was incredible, and our Airbnb was definitely one of a kind.

Last Saturday, before I got sick for the second time this school year 🙄, I was able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful morning. I love fall weather and the crispness in the air. As Sunday arrived I was down and out. What I’m most sad about is not the rain, or the Eagles losing,… AGAIN. It was missing the 50th Birthday celebration of a dear friend whom I’ve known since my sophomore year of college. (I won’t do the math for anyone in that. 😝) Love you @zampelliteach4life 💜. Can’t wait to celebrate you soon. Xoxo 🍷

It’s been a busy month so far, and this week has been downright messy. Some of it personal stuff, but the bulk of it is because I coach the 7th and 8th grade field hockey teams at the school where I teach. We’ve had games every day, except Monday, and I haven’t gotten home until close to 7:00 all week. It might not seem like that much, but when our bussing system has us leaving school at 12:45 for away games (which don’t start until 3:30) it requires lesson plans and prayers that whomever is covering my classes will actually do what’s written. Going into my classroom the next day is a bit of a gamble. Especially because I teach art. That being said, finding time to workout during the week has become a series of morning strength sessions. Last Saturday I was able to get out and ride with my dear friend, Trish, whom I also coach in triathlon. It was her last long ride before leaving for Big Island. Despite it being 9 years since the last time I was raced in Kona, I can still feel the vibe and the excitement that buzzes around pre-race. It’s quite a feeling! I’m sure everyone on the island is soaking it in right now. Tomorrow is finally here! Trust your training, and be safe if you are there to race. Especially to the athletes I coach who are there. ♥️

The universe fought me on this one, but I didn’t let it win. I’d say I get to the trailhead and realize I’ve forgotten my cycling shoes about 2/5 times. 🤦‍♀️ 25 minutes later I was in business. Couldn’t wait to get out in my new @bettydesigns kit! ♥️🤍💙

I feel like I’ve been playing this game of “what’s causing “this” to feel like “this,” forever. As a lifelong athlete (field hockey player, horseback rider, collegiate swimmer, triathlete, and now cyclist who loves hiking) I’ve had my fair share of injuries and questions as to why I feel a certain way. I don’t think I’ll ever have it mastered, but when the puzzle pieces connect it’s a pretty good feeling.

It was wonderful having such a beautiful weekend. We definitely made up for the mile (thankfully, only 1) walk back to the car after shredding the sidewall on my gravel bike tire. 😝 The bonus was running into @dglodek and being able to catch up with her.

Today marks the end of summer vacation, for me, so I’m back to early morning workouts. I loved this summer and think it was one of the best ones yet. It’s a great feeling that I hope to carry with me into a new school year. Here’s to my 30th year. 🎨
