What's 85km? A thought I carried with me over the last few weeks. And the answer remained the same. Compared to what the numerous sick or injured children and their families go through every day... Absolutely nothing. I chose 85km. They didn't choose their circumstances. That's the difference. ~ To every single person showing up for @starshipfoundation’s Kilometers for Kids challenge this month, keep up the amazing work with putting in the effort and raising funds for something bigger than ourselves. Respect to every single one of you 🤝🏽 ~ To the amazing people and crew I was hoping to run this with on Sunday, wishing you all the very best this weekend! I have no doubt that you'll all get it done, and the vibes, and mutual support will be second to none. Genuinely looking forward to following along with everyone's updates. Not bad for someone who, - Started running training at the end of May - Carries 95kg - Works a full-time job - Is constantly learning to be a better engineer - Strives to stay present as a dad, husband, and family man - Aims to be of service in the community This journey has been far from perfect, but it’s mine. What began as a way to raise funds for @starshipfoundation has become a cornerstone of my physical and mental well-being. I'm grateful for, - How far I’ve come - The new friendships forged along the way - The running community - My close friends and family - And most importantly, my wife @palomapoliko for holding it down while I'm out on the roads chasing doubt out of my head. There's still a long way to go. Not just with running, but with living in coherence. The learning never ends, and that's what keeps it exciting. @chimarathon 2026 First Samoan to run the Chicago Major 🫣👀 If any other Samoan claims they have, it’s not official 🤪 We had fun with it. I bought into the crowd’s energy and returned it at my own expense. How could you not at your first major? The conditions turned on us after an hour of running. You can’t control that, but you can control how you respond, and we most certainly did. I’ve spoken to plenty of people post-race who were disappointed to miss their goal times, many of them first-time marathoners. To them I’d say, unlucky, and congratulations on joining the small fraction of the world’s population who can say, “I’ve run a marathon”. You also did it at a world major. That’s two things worth celebrating 👏🏽 I still empathise with the disappointment. I chased a time goal at my first marathon too, and an injury at the halfway point cost me 27 minutes on that goal. You’d expect a desperate rush to regain fitness and go after it again at Chicago. However, that hasn’t been the case. This training block has been, without a doubt, a lot more challenging compared to last year’s. The main challenge? Having patience. Congrats again to all the runners. Auckland marathon next. Count it 🤝🏽 ⏱️ 4:32:19 5 months post knee surgery, and we’ve crossed a marathon finish line injury free. Not just any marathon either. A @wmmajors marathon at that. A very hot day in the office today. However, we got the result we wanted. A strong finish, and no pain in the knee. @chimarathon, the city of Chicago really put it on today. Not a single lull, or a drop off energy in any of the 29 neighbourhoods we ran through today. What an incredible experience. Whether it was your first major, marathon, or not, congratulations to the 55,000+ people who ran today. That’s one race I’ll remember for a very long time, and I hope to get another opportunity to run it again. ~ Comeback complete? We shall see 🙏🏽 taken in Chicago Downtown by @gio.poliko

T - 12 HOURS (Messed up my timing 😅) So proud of @palomapoliko and her @abbottglobal 5km run this morning. Love and adore your receptiveness towards taking on hard things this year. T - 3 DAYS Bibs picked up. We ready to go 😤 I’m so proud of my wife @palomapoliko for giving this a go. She is a fish (swimmer), and soon to be runner (she doesn’t know it yet 🤪). I’ve admired your resilience and courage to take this on. Our kids have seen me train for these races, and now they have seen you do the same. With both of them expressing interest in running too.
