Happy Birthday to the friend you call when you need a good laugh, a girls’ night out, a weekend away, a confession, a shopping buddy, or even a business or hairstyle consult!

She’s also the friend my son calls when he wants to show off that he has the prettiest aunty.

The last two weeks have brought us some of the happiest moments we’ve had since Zy got sick.

First, our best friends from England surprised us with a visit. Seeing the kids reunited—and reconnecting with my beautiful friend Toochi, one of the most special people in my life— was an unexpected treat and just what the doctor ordered.

And yesterday, we got another gift: Zyan’s doctor gave him the okay to return to school for a few days as we wait for his next treatment steps.

The moment he saw his teacher, he took off running straight into her arms. He RAN to her like she was his long lost aunt and I love that for him. I’m so happy he finally got to experience second grade with his favorite teacher🥹. Then he walked into his classroom and his classmates cheered him on. Needless to say I was in tears…again.

After everything he’s been through, seeing him this happy—to just be a kid again—was everything.

My heart is so full. I’m so thankful for our community who loves and continues to pray for my little kiddo. Thank you! by @girl.notafraid

Update on Zy Zy — he’s home❤️

And we’ve already witnessed so many miracles. He’s walking, talking, laughing, and singing again. We’re taking recovery one day at a time, and one of his physical therapy activities has been working on a painting together. He also asked to go to Paris. 🤣 Soon, baby. Soon .

To every single person who prayed for him—thank you. I can’t fully express what your prayers meant to us. I truly felt the power of them surrounding us. They carried me when my faith felt like it was breaking and gave Zyan strength too.

This morning he said, “Mommy, I’m only 7, but I know so many people. They were worried about me and prayed for me.” He felt your love and support. Thanks for all the phone calls, text messages, DMs. Every little helped get him home. by @girl.notafraid

Long post alert: This is Zyan Ethan, the most beautiful human being I know.

He’s funny, charming, and he talks a whole lot. He loves meeting people and making friends. Even at the height of the pandemic, he would beg to go to Tesco.

“I want to talk to people, Mom,” he would say.

He has always been that way.

He draws people to him—the neighbor up the street, the manager at Sam’s Club, the lonely child at school. Somehow, he knows how to look into a person’s soul and become exactly the friend they need, and they love him for it.

He loves to travel. He loves experiencing different cultures, trying new foods, and learning about people from other countries. He buys flowers for his friends simply because he wants to make them smile.

He loves God. He sings worship songs in the mornings. He remembers and retells Bible stories as though it were his life’s work. He talks about Jesus like He is a dear friend walking beside him every day.

He is truly a light.

He shines so brightly.

For years, I thought his gift was his incredible vocabulary and wisdom beyond his years. But now I realize that his true gift is his light—the way he brings joy to those around him, the way he gathers people together, and the way he makes everyone feel seen and loved.

Three weeks ago, he said something to me that I will never forget:

“Mom, I want to live long enough to see a miracle.”

One week later, he was rushed to the hospital for life-saving surgery, and we spent the last two weeks in hospital, waiting for his miracle.

Today, he is alive and stable but I am still asking you to pray—truly pray—with everything you have, that my baby is granted his wish.

Please hold him in your hearts. Pray for his light to be fully restored. Pray for healing. Pray that his full recovery becomes his testimony, his miracle.

Because I believe with every part of me that he was born for a very special purpose, and that purpose has not yet been fulfilled. by @girl.notafraid

The past two weeks have humbled me beyond anything I ever imagined. Life can change in an instant and that made me appreciate so many things I once took for granted. Today, I am especially grateful for our community (mostly built by Zyan of course)—family, friends, neighbors, fellow moms, nurses, and coworkers who have surrounded us with love and support.

Thank you for your prayers, kindness, and for helping make this difficult time a little easier. I would be lost without all of you. by @girl.notafraid

A local guide offered us to join a private tour off the beaten path to a beautiful waterfall 💕💕. We were not planning on going swimming, I had to swim in my dress but I loved it! After a long drive through the clouds, we arrive at a little restaurant tucked away in a small rainforest town. The skies open up to greet us, along with a sweetsop smoothie, rice and peas, and chicken that tasted like home (Jamaica).
