🌍 We are proud to continue leading and shaping a renewed push for collective action to end child marriage.

On 3–4 November, the End Child Marriage Collective's Government and Funder Circle will convene in London, co-hosted by Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage, Global Affairs Canada and the UNFPA-UNICEF Global Programme to End Child Marriage.

The End Child Marriage (ECM) Collective is a strategic, multi-stakeholder platform working to:

➡️ Keep the issue of ending child marriage firmly on global political and development agendas.
➡️ Protect and expand financing to fund efforts to end child marriage.
➡️ Strengthen coordinated action.

Together, we can end child marriage. Watch our video to learn more about the ECM Collective or visit our webpage: https://www.girlsnotbrides.org/en/about-us/end-child-marriage-collective/

We’ve shifted how we invest in girls’ rights.
But change starts with those closest to it.
Our partners are leading the way by putting girls, communities and systems at the heart of change.

They are:
💰 Investing deeply to ensure girls have the freedom to choose their future.
🙌 Supporting local leadership by getting resources to the girls and community leaders who make change possible.
🤝 Working collectively in communities so that girls feel inspired by what’s possible.
️ 🛠 Strengthen systems so that countries can make progress and be living examples to their neighbours.

To end child marriage faster, donors and philanthropies need to fund differently.

All too often, efforts to end child marriage are disjointed and progress is too slow.

That’s why the Malawi Accelerator Programme (MAP) brings together government, civil society organisations, community leaders, funders and other key stakeholders to halve child marriage by 2030.

MAP is Girls Not Brides’ first Accelerator Country Programme. And over the next four years, we plan to replicate this ecosystem-based model in other countries.

1 year of focused investment and work has already helped accelerate progress. Malawi now has:

✔️ A stronger, more autonomous civil society coalition.

✔️ A revived National Technical Committee on Ending Child Marriage.

✔️ And the development of a credible, costed implementation plan.

Because no single organisation can end child marriage. And girls can’t wait.

We have seen progress to end child marriage, yet to meet the global target by 2030, progress needs to move 20 times faster.

This International Day of The Girl, we join the call for urgent action to end child marriage and invest in girls’ rights.

We know what works to end child marriage, but we need a different approach to investing in it. One that puts girls, communities, and systems at the heart of change.

What does this look like?

💰 Invest deeply.

🙌 Support local leadership.

🤝 Work collectively.

🛠️ Strengthen systems.

Today and every day, let’s stand with girls and invest in the lasting change they need and deserve.

12 million girls are married before the age of 18 every year.

That’s 1 million girls every month.

Progress is possible, but it is not happening fast enough. Girls need investment, and they need it today.

Ahead of International Day of the Girl on 11 October, we’re asking: What will it take to end child marriage?

This IDG, we are spotlighting the Malawi Accelerator Programme and showcasing what is possible when we invest in girls and in the people and organisations working alongside them.

A global day for ending child marriage. A moment to keep girls’ rights at the centre.

We welcome the announcement of 27 November as the new UN International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage.
Global recognition matters. It keeps this issue on the international agenda, builds momentum for action, and reminds governments of their commitment to end child marriage by 2030.

But an international commitment is not enough, and a day is only meaningful if it drives action.

Ending child marriage means every girl can choose her own future. Free from child marriage, violence, and discrimination, and with access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

It means recognising girls as rights-holders, leaders, and agents of change.

It means confronting the gender and socio-economic inequalities and systems that permit child marriage to persist.

It means investing in locally led movements working every day to change them.

It means investing in girls.

Every girl deserves the right to choose her own future. Together, we can end child marriage.

1.6 million girls are better protected from child marriage today than they were a year ago.

⚖️ 2 new national laws: Burkina Faso raised the minimum age of marriage to 18, and Colombia passed its Son Niñas, No Esposas bill banning child marriage and early unions, together protecting 580,000 girls a year.

📋 2 national strategies: Nepal endorsed a new strategy to end child marriage, and Nigeria adopted a costed plan to deliver on its own leading to the protection of a further 997,000 girls a year.

🤝 A new framework in Kenya, shaped with our member coalition, will protect 84,000 more girls each year once it’s implemented.

Together, that’s 1.6 million girls better protected, every single year.
But policy change is only part of the story.

✍️ 10 leading funders and governments committed to greater collaboration.
📣 12 governments championed ending child marriage in international spaces.

From national policy change to increased investment and global leadership, this is what collective action makes possible.

Every girl deserves the right to decide if, when, and who she marries.

Realising that right takes collective action. It takes power shifting to those who have been excluded from it for too long.

Girl-led. Women-led. Community-driven. Indigenous-led. Movement-powered.

It takes the girl advocating in her community. The coalition fighting for policy change. The funder willing to invest long term. The organisation rooted in the places where change has to happen.

When we shift who holds power we shift what is possible.
This is how we end child marriage.

Ending child marriage doesn’t happen through one intervention. It takes four interconnected tactics working together, at every level, simultaneously. Here is how we are doing it.➡️

Our 2026 to 2030 strategy is delivered through four core tactics. Each one reinforces the others. Together, they unlock systems level change in how child marriage is prioritised, resourced, and addressed.

🤝 Mobilise:
The #endchildmarriage movement is powerful. But collective power only delivers when it is coordinated around a shared agenda.

Through the End Child Marriage Collective and targeted national advocacy, we are bringing the movement together like never before.

🛠️Equip:

Knowledge is power. Through tools like the Child Marriage Atlas, funding landscape analyses, and evidence briefs, we ensure that every actor in the movement has what they need to make the strongest possible case for girls.

🎯Influence:

Political will is not enough. It has to be converted into action. We work at international and national level to shape development agendas, unlock funding commitments, and drive policy and legal reform where girls need it most.

💰Fund:

Funding to end child marriage rarely reaches those best placed to use it. We are changing that through catalytic, multi-year grants to member coalitions and by expanding the funder base to protect and unlock at least $1 billion to end child marriage.

How they work together

Mobilising builds the movement. Equipping makes it effective. Influencing turns it into action. Funding makes it sustainable.

Together, they are how Girls Not Brides and 1,400+ member organisations will deliver our 2026 to 2030 strategy and contribute in ending child marriage.

Reducing child marriage from 1 in 5 girls to 1 in 7 by 2030 requires action at every level, both global and national, simultaneously.

💰Global Action. Protecting and unlocking at least $1 billion to end child marriage and ensuring it remains a non-negotiable priority in international funding and development agendas.

🗺️Country Impact. Driving sustained national action in up to 10 countries going deeper where conditions allow for comprehensive, lasting change.

Global funding unlocks country action. Country results strengthen the global case. One cannot succeed without the other.

Together, they are how we contribute to reducing child marriage from 1 in 5 girls to 1 in 7 by 2030.

After 15 years of building a global movement to end child marriage, we have learned what works, what doesn’t, and what it takes to drive lasting change.

Our 2026–2030 strategy marks a new chapter that is more focused, and more accountable than anything we have done before.

💰The funding to end child marriage is not keeping pace with the scale of the crisis.

Since 2015, approximately $516 million has been invested with a primary focus on ending child marriage. A further $1.27 billion has contributed to it as a secondary goal.

That sounds significant. But set against a problem affecting 1 in 5 girls globally and a world where international aid is projected to fall by 24% it is not enough.

🔷 The funding gap is real
🔷 The organisations best placed to act are under-resourced
🔷 And the window to protect existing investment is closing

That is why our 2026–2030 strategy sets an ambitious target: protect and unlock at least $1 billion to end child marriage ensuring it remains a non-negotiable priority in international funding and development agendas.
