Your mother taps me on the hip. She sounded worried. It’s 3:30 in the morning. Im anxious to meet you. I could barely sleep the past couple of days. I grab ours bags, got your mother in the car, and made our way to L&D.

When we got to L&D, we didn’t have to wait at all. Your mother was laboring. She could hardly walk. She thugged it out stopping to take breaks through L&D. I didn’t say much. I was nervous but didn’t say much. It’s still hard to describe what I was feeling.

I called our families and told them you were on your way. They were excited to meet you too. They packed their bags and said “see you soon.”

It’s September 4, 2025 at 4:20pm. Your mother and I cried as we said hello to you for the first time. You didn’t say much. But neither did I because I knew my time was limited to a couple weeks.

I left you at 3 weeks old to pursue a dream turned reality. You were also a dream that turned reality. It was the hardest thing I had to do in my life. I cried on my way to Atlanta several times.

We didn’t talk much on the phone. Your mother did most of the talking. I starred at you wondering what you thought of me. Wondering if you knew who I was. Wondering if you remembered our time together. I knew I would see you again. I just didn’t know when.

You and your mother made this year easier than anticipated. I had to grow up quickly. You and her smiled through the tough times, the long nights, and the FaceTimes. When you moved to Atlanta, holding you felt more special. This is our new home.

Watching you grow has been a true blessing. I’m proud to be your father. I hope to lead you down the right path and create a greater life than you and your mother asked for.

This past year simply been the best year of my life. It was not easy at all. But nothing easy is worth having. One day, you will see this and know what Im talking about.

Happy Birthday First Birthday Xa! May all your dreams turn to reality. Mine certainly have. You and your mother hold a special place in my heart. Continue to make strides and achieve. I’ll be there to hold your hand along the way, even if we’re a part.

9/4/25
Xavier means “New House”. We picked his name before he was even a reality. Little did we know how much meaning it would have behind it 🩶

9/4/25 When we shared his name with our families, we learned that my Pop Pop, Frank John McQuaid, was actually born, Frances Xavier McQuaid. Pop Pop and I always had a special bond as his favorite (and only) granddaughter. I’m sure he had some hand in this 🩶

9/4/25 We bought our home in Maryland in March 2025 for him. And little did we know 5 months later and 2 weeks before he was born we would planning to find a new home in Atlanta, Georgia.

9/4/26 Through plane rides, stress, new jobs, new routines, new people this kid smiled and giggled through it all. Showing his parents what it truly means to be resilient 🩶

9/4/26 Now we’ve made this house a home. One where you’ve learned to crawl, stand, climb, eat new foods, babble, grow 7 teeth, chase your “dug”s and as of yesterday take your first few steps 🩶

9/4/26 We love you, our sweet boy ☺️ Our hearts are so grateful to share this life with each other. Our weekend of celebrating your “One for the Books” Birthday starts now 🩶 by @gjeter_

Husband & Wife 🫶🏻

We truly made the most of every single moment. Every emotion was felt, we were surrounded by the most love and could not have asked for a better weekend. THANK YOU GEORGETOWN 🐶💙

What started as a part-time position and grew into something I had been dreaming of since 2016. Getting here wasn’t easy. It took everything out of me except my belief, work ethic, and identity.

To Anna - my time here wouldn’t have happened without your sacrifice, trust, and encouragement. You kept me together when I felt lost. You tied things down when I wasn’t able to. I love you.

To the coaches & athletes - your trust is what kept my belief high. I felt I had a responsibility to perfect my craft because of you. Kept my sword sharp day-to-day. You supported me through the tough moments. The learning moments. The wins and the losses. Thank you for building me into the man I am today.

To WBB - I’m so proud of every single one of you. You’ve impacted my life greater than you know. The timing is awkward and I’m sad to leave but you all know where to find me. Continue to build for yourself and those who come after you, but never look back. Love you all!

To admin, staff, and the university - thank you for allowing me to build, grow, and be a part of something special. Georgetown has changed the trajectory of my career for the better. It has given me opportunities, challenges, and gifts that would be difficult to find elsewhere. I am grateful.

My family and I love Georgetown’s unique, strong and genuine character. The people make it feel like home. A community. These past 4 years have been a blessing to say the least. The future is exciting but I will never forget the people who help build the foundation.
