Hey y’all

I guess I’ve never shared my athletic background and how it’s led me to this point in life. I know what training can do for someone nobody expects anything from. I lived it. Now I get to help you live it too.

Golfers, it’s time we train smarter.

Elite players use the ground to create distance by producing horizontal and vertical forces. We train these same mechanics and movement patterns off the course, so that when you swing, the ground works for you, not against you.

Come train with the best! šŸ‘Š @athletelabdet

3 things training taught me after a few months away:

1. The only fair comparison is action vs inaction.
I kept measuring this first week against a version of myself that trained almost every day without thinking twice. That’s just not a fair comparison to make. The only concern is where I’d be right now if I’d kept avoiding it. Probably still kicking the can down the road ā€œwaitingā€ for the opportunity to arise. Every session this week wins that comparison.

2. Motivation doesn’t come first.
I spent months waiting to ā€œfeel like itā€ or when ā€œI had the time for itā€ before I’d walk back in. That feeling never showed up on its own. What I didn’t expect is that it shows up immediately after the warmup, after the first sprint, after the first rep. Just like that, you’re back.

3. You don’t need a perfect plan.
Just get in the door. I let ā€œnot having the right planā€ become the reason I did nothing at all. As an athlete, a structured warmup became routine for me. Mobility, dynamic, activation, etc. Some days I felt like I needed it all, others I warmed up under the bar. Recently, I couldn’t do either. Pure procrastination. It wasn’t until I just said f$&k it and just picked something heavy up and put it down a few times that I remembered I don’t need to have a ā€œplan,ā€ I just needed something to get the ball rolling. taken in Athlete Lab by @gkstrength_

First full week back in the gym after months off. I skipped the easy reintroduction and dove right in, and truthfully some of these sessions have kinda sucked. But I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by how good I’ve felt.

Here’s what I relearned about myself this week: I used to treat my own training as all-or-nothing. If I didn’t have time for a full structured session, I’d do nothing instead. I started avoiding training altogether because I convinced myself the first sessions back would be miserable and was afraid to feel pathetic for a little bit.

All I needed was some accountability.

Turns out the story I was telling myself was worse than the reality. Something is always better than nothing. Just start. taken in Athlete Lab by @gkstrength_

First lower body day in months. 🫠 Motivation’s been nowhere to be found. Funny how the guy who programs everyone else’s training can’t always find his own. So instead of easing back in like I’d tell any of my athletes to do, I did 6x5 zercher box squats on the @keiserfitness belt squat because apparently that’s how I cope. It’s quite literally only up from here.

Sometimes you just have to turn off the coach brain and hit the ground running. taken in Athlete Lab by @gkstrength_

Deceleration is one of the most overlooked and undertrained qualities in sports performance. Non-contact injuries happen often through inefficient deceleration, such as injuries to ACL, hamstring, and patellar tendon.

Every change of direction is really a deceleration problem before it’s an acceleration problem. You need to control the central load first before planting, cutting, or redirecting that force. You can only re-accelerate as fast as you can decelerate.

Slow braking = slow transitions = energy leak. And if one side is handling more force than the other, that’s usually not a strength issue. That’s a compensation pattern waiting to become an injury.

In these clips, we’re training braking qualities through eccentric work built into our programming, teaching the body to produce force efficiently so we can redirect it just as fast.

Our Women’s Pro Group is officially into Phase 1 of their summer off-season training.

After spending the first few weeks rebuilding movement quality, addressing limitations, and laying a solid foundation, it’s time to start pushing strength while continuing to move well.

We’ve also begun reintroducing sprint work as we prepare their bodies for the higher-speed demands that come later this summer.

The goal isn’t just to get stronger, it’s to build athletes who move better, generate force quickly, and stay healthy throughout a long season.

This is our exclusive women’s College & Pro training group at the @athletelabdet

Invite-only.

Built for athletes who want to train at the highest level.

The work being put in now will show up when the season starts. taken in Athlete Lab by @gkstrength_

Split-Stance 3D Strap Hip Airplanes

This variation challenges single-leg stability, hip control, and rotational strength through multiple planes of motion.
The goal isn’t just to get through the movement; it’s to control it. Staying balanced, maintaining position, and owning each phase translates directly to more efficient skating mechanics and injury-resistant movement patterns. taken in Athlete Lab by @gkstrength_

Our Women’s Pro Hockey Group started this week and is off to a hot start šŸ”„These girls know how to get after it in the weight room 😤

What does the Women’s Pro group look like?

šŸ’ Invite-only training environment
šŸ’Ŗ 5 days per week of structured strength & performance training
šŸ“ˆ Individualized programming and monitoring
šŸ„… 2 coach led skill skates per week
šŸ¤ Train alongside other professional athletes pushing each other every day

Our goal is to provide our pros with all of the resources they may need to have a successful off-season. By giving them easy access to training, ice time, nutrition, recovery, etc. it makes being consistent more convenient, leading to better results over the off-season. taken in Athlete Lab by @gkstrength_
