Morning NECK Work with some IRON HISTORY ⚒️

Jackson plates

@york_barbell_official neck harness from I believe the 70s

It was gifted to me by somebody who did a pick up in Wisconsin from an older gentleman who purchased a full set of York Barbell equipment

The older gentleman was a corrections officer, and he said when he began working in the prison, all the inmates were bigger and stronger than him so he went home that day and ordered himself a York Barbell set 💪💪

Nobody ever regretted being bigger and stronger 🏆🏆✊✊

Chuck Sipes was a professional bodybuilder and performing strongman. His love for hard work and adventure led him to the Military & he became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne.

Chuck was extremely strong, benching 570 at a bodyweight of approximately 225! Chuck was highly regarded for his community service, working for the California Youth Authority and California School System helping troubled youths. An avid mountain man with a love for the outdoors, Sipes would take the teenagers on trips to the mountains lasting 26 days, teaching them the foundations of friendship & teamwork and leaving a positive impact on their lives in the process.

During the trip, Chuck would send each individual on a solo trip. They must go out by themselves for four nights and three days. During this time they must forage for their own food. This is the real test for them.

Chuck would often return from these trips 20 lbs lighter and shredded.

Chuck’s training during his peak was high volume, heavy & intense while training muscle groups 3 x week & often training 3 x day.

6 AM - Home Gym Workout

2 PM - 2nd Training Session at Youth Detention Center while Training Kids

8 PM - 3rd Training Session near the end of his work shift (Chuck worked 2 pm - 10 PM)

After retiring to Northern California his love of the outdoors would translate into a love for art, painting western landscapes featuring mountain men.

Chuck’s recommendation on Increasing Bench Press Strength:

➡️ begin at least 6 months before a meet. This is a five days per week routine which is very intense. There is much direct effort stimulating the ligaments and tendons.

Monday & Wednesday

Bench Press – 2×6; 2×4; 2×2; 4 singles.

Tuesday & Thursday

Heavy Supports – 5×8. (100 lbs. over best press from ¼ way down to lockout)

Prones – Close to maximum poundage.

Heavy Supports – 150 lbs. over best press, holding with a slight elbow bend.

Prones – close to maximum poundage.

Friday

Incline Press, wide grip, slowly – 4×6.

Dumbell Incline Press, slowly – 4×6.

Finish w Pullovers & Flys

Chuck Can be seen in these photos bench pressing a car!

The Barbarian Brothers.

I first read about these guys and their insane workouts in the mid 80s 🏆

In my teens, I would often copy their workouts, I remember doing 50 sets of squats, 1 hour of max benching until my arms almost fell off!

I LOVED THE WORK ⚒️⚒️

Why do people avoid the work?!

Read the excerpt above ⬆️

I can’t add anything to this but Man, too bad people don’t THINK like this anymore.

We’ve got too many people worried if doing push-ups two days in a row is “too much“??

Back in the 80s we did not have what you call today, how do you say? “Play date” 👀

This was what we did for my brother’s birthday in 87 (I was 11 years old), and then I remember going home doing push ups and Curls 💪💪

Scenes like this from @rockymovie are what inspired the creation of @undergroundstrengthgym 🏆🏆🥊🥊

I knew that if an athlete was going to get stronger, faster and tougher, their training could not be “normal“.

The training had to be uncomfortable, the training had to push both the physical and mental limits.

Today, everything is so perfect and comfortable, which is the complete opposite of how the toughest competitions are Won.

This is what I called “blending science with hell” - I wrote about it in the Encyclopedia of Underground Strength 📖📖

You can get a scientific as you want, you can copy TikTok videos, but unless you have really lived Combat SPORTS, you don’t really understand what these athletes need 🏴‍☠️

Leg Day • WORKING day ✔️

Always feels good to put in the work, had a conversation with @marksmellybell last week and now that we are “getting older” we look at strength training and fitness through a different lense.

Not only do we see people older than us struggling to move, we see KIDS several decades younger than us struggling to move.

The @undergroundstrengthgym started as a blend between the Rocky films 🥊🥊, the early days of world strongest man @theworldsstrongestman from the late 70s and the early 80s as well as the golden and silver era of bodybuilding 💪💪

Then, I thought about how I grew up in the 80s, riding my bike and skateboarding through the streets, this was freestyle aka NO RULES 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

I still apply that method today, who cares what you are lifting, everything works when you are putting in the work.

DO THE WORK OF YOUR LIFE

Why aren’t all the ROCKY films mandatory viewing for middle school and high school kids?

These movies are LIFE 🏆🏆🥊🥊

#Rocky #Manasquan #ToughGym #UndergroundStrengthGym

To this day, one of the greatest motivational movies ever made. 🥊

When Stallone wrote Rocky in 1975, he was a struggling actor with very little money. According to the New York Times, he wrote the screenplay in just three and a half days, with only $106 in his wallet.

Around that time, Stallone watched Muhammad Ali fight Chuck Wepner, a largely unknown heavyweight who was expected to be easily beaten. Instead, Wepner knocked Ali down and lasted until the 15th round before losing by TKO with only 19 seconds left. Stallone later described the fight as a powerful metaphor for life, and it became one of the inspirations for Rocky.

Stallone’s real-life struggles also make Rocky’s story feel strangely personal. He was trying to make it in Hollywood, taking small acting jobs and struggling financially while waiting for his big break.

When producers became interested in his script, Stallone insisted on playing Rocky himself. He turned down opportunities to simply sell the screenplay because he wanted to be the one to bring the character to life.

And it paid off.

Made for around $1 million and shot in just 28 days, Rocky became a huge success. It received 10 Academy Award nominations and won three, including Best Picture, Directing and Film Editing. Stallone was also nominated for both Best Actor and Original Screenplay.

That’s why Rocky feels like more than just a boxing movie.

Rocky was a nobody who finally got his chance.

Stallone was, in many ways, doing the same thing.

He wrote a story about an overlooked fighter refusing to give up — while fighting for his own chance to be seen.
