New review now up on the Journal and in the newsletter via Substack! 🎉

@tobyupsonofficial reports on Autumn Maze, Kevin Hutcheson @patricia_fleming_glasgow (44 Carlton Place).

The exhibition continues until 31 October, open Saturday and Sunday, 12-6pm.

"Hutcheson’s work positions us as central to life’s relationality that is, with collages like Caught in the Rapture I (1996) and Caught in the Rapture II (1996), hung to suggest a diptych form, forcing us to literally stand in between bold fact, the words “HISTORY / OF”, and slender fiction, “french / lovers”. Lost in the spaces that compose this pair, I am prompted to dream, to reconcile disparate sources of information and, critically, to be touched by the thinking Hutcheson’s art prompts when the material of life is cut free from mass dictation." by @glasgow_art_map

Happy Friday, dear readers and happy 10th article-versary to Mount Jupiter Reports! 🎉

Starting with a reflection on @galleryceline ’s last ever exhibition closing this weekend, MoJu reflects on the sincere lack of conversation across the Scottish art scene: no one appears to be listening to anyone, there is no institutional memory, strikes everywhere, etc etc… How depressing, sorry! 🤷

Read at link in bio OR on the Journal -- links in bio! 🤸‍♀️

Don’t forget that you can get in touch with MoJu! Maybe send them something nice and cheery for next month?? Thoughts on Outer Spaces take over of The Skinny, perhaps?? Email them: mount.jupiter.conspiracy@gmail.com by @glasgow_art_map

Opening Friday, 5–8pm 🦎

Our Dear Green Places by Libby Walker

'Our Dear Green Places’ brings together a series of paintings created after Walker travelled across Glasgow by bike, visiting private and community gardens, painting them from her distinctive perspective and gathering the stories rooted in each place.

Taking its title from Glasgow’s historic meaning as “Dear Green Place”, the exhibition offers a vivid portrait of the city through the lens of gardens. From The Hidden Gardens in Glasgow’s southside to the gardens of author and journalist Helen Cross, Walker’s paintings capture the distinct character, colour and personality of each unique garden.

Known for work that captures Glasgow’s stories and places, Walker has used the project to look closely at the spaces people tend, share and cherish. Each garden became both a subject and a meeting point: a place to paint, to listen, and to understand how garden continues to offer hope, peace and connection within Glasgow.' by @glasgow_art_map
