“INVITATION” by Mary Oliver
Oh do you have time
to linger
for just a little while
out of your busy
and very important day
for the goldfinches
that have gathered
in a field of thistles
for a musical battle,
to see who can sing
the highest note,
or the lowest,
or the most expressive of mirth,
or the most tender?
Their strong, blunt beaks
drink the air
as they strive
melodiously
not for your sake
and not for mine and not for the sake of winning
but for sheer delight and gratitude –
believe us, they say,
it is a serious thing
just to be alive
on this fresh morning
in the broken world.
I beg of you,
do not walk by
without pausing
to attend to this
rather ridiculous performance.
It could mean something.
It could mean everything.
It could be what Rilke meant, when he wrote:
You must change your life.

I’m always intimidated before putting the first lines down on large scale drawings because I love working small and naturally gravitate to detail and a more intimate size. But I really enjoy the process of getting lost in these while I am working on them, provided I can find my way back to where I thought I was going. This drawing is on view at the Currier Museum in Radical Quiet, through January 10, 2027.

It’s early to imagine crisp autumn weather while we’re still in deep green summertime, but I am really looking forward to returning to Snow Farm this upcoming October to teach a three day Organic ink Painting workshop. Excited to be back in their lovely 2-D studio to play with organic materials to make ink and explore mark-making and brush painting. It is always inspiring and fun to be immersed in this wonderful hive of creative people; Snow farm is the only residential craft center in New England. There are still a couple of spots left, all levels are welcome in this workshop🍁🍂Details are up on the Snow Farm website and linked through @snowfarmcraft

Radical Quiet is open! Thanks to Bruce McColl for the show concept, thoughtful curation, writing and meticulous installation including the lovely vitrine! Including photos of work by my co-exhibitors here, Victoria Elbroch abd Nancy Friese, pleased to be sharing the walls and be united in this show.
In 2014 I had the opportunity to show my drawings at The Currier Museum at a community arts event and it is an honor to be returning to this wonderful museum for this show. I especially admire the Currier’s ongoing dedication to making art accessible all around through their public programming.
Looking forward to the opening reception on Saturday September 12th, details at the Currier website www.currier.org
Please stop by if you’re in the area!
The exhibition is up through 1/10/2027

🔍 How many creatures can you find hiding in this drawing?

At first glance, Margot Glass's Goldthread appears to be a meticulous botanical drawing.

But look a little longer.

Hidden among the flowers and leaves are insects, snails, and other small creatures quietly inhabiting the landscape.

Swipe to see a few of the ones I found. I wonder how many you see?

This work will be included in Radical Quiet opening August 8 at the Currier Museum of Art. by @glass.margot

I began working with organic homemade inks after studying historical materials and traditional
methods with the director of conservation at the Smith College Art Museum in Northampton, MA. The
exploration of organic pigments and mediums inspired me to continue on my own, researching
traditional ink recipes.
Black walnut ink soon because my preferred formula not only for its archival pigment permanence
and stability as a medium, but for the incredibly varied chromatic richness, and the beautiful range of
cool to warm tones that it produces in layering and washes.
I collect black walnuts on hikes; gathering the materials outdoors while out walking and making the
ink in my studio feel integral to the drawing process for me. @glass.margot (from her artist’s statement, 2026)#botanicaldrawings #artist #collectingart #artgallery #walnutink taken in Kenise Barnes Fine Art by @glass.margot

Very excited to be delivering work to the Currier Museum this week for an upcoming show opening in August. Had to send in a current studio photo, missing the multitalented @nonayerbusiness for her portrait magic but just cobbled together a selfie instead this time. Show details to come! Thankful for the opportunity to share my work at this beautiful museum. @curriermuseum

Every summer when certain plants come sprouting back everywhere I feel renewed wonder for them in spite of how many times I have attempted to draw them before. I enjoyed the challenge of scaling smaller on prepared panels to make this group
My show is up in the Project Space on view through 7/26. I’m so happy to be able to share work again in this gem of a spot in the gallery alongside beautiful paintings by Gregory Hennen and David Koenigsberg
