A Canadian Arctic patrol ship, a floating fisheries laboratory and a superyacht reportedly worth over US$200 million—all within a short stretch of North Vancouver’s waterfront.

Opening with HMCS Max Bernays, this aerial tour takes a closer look at Canada’s 103-metre ice-capable patrol ship and neighbouring CCGS Sir John Franklin. Built locally by Seaspan, the Franklin is a floating science platform supporting fisheries and ocean research.

Then it’s across Seaspan’s Vancouver Drydock, where the striking AV—also known as Attessa V—is out of the water. Formerly Palladium, this 95-metre German-built superyacht belongs to industrialist Dennis Washington and has a reported value exceeding US$200 million. Washington also owns Seaspan: quite a connection between the yacht and the yard looking after her.

The flight continues toward Lonsdale Quay, closing in for an orbit of Attessa III and TESS. The 68.6-metre Attessa III is a Dutch-built Feadship extensively rebuilt in Vancouver. Beside her, the elegant 36.4-metre TESS dates back to 1966—proof that classic yacht design ages beautifully.

Completing the scene is St. Eval, a 1930 tug given a second life as a private yacht and America’s Cup support vessel.

Working ships, exceptional craftsmanship and almost a century of maritime history—all along one stretch of Burrard Inlet.

Anthem of the Seas slipping out of Vancouver on Tuesday night, lit up from bow to stern as she passed under the Lionsgate Bridge.

This wasn’t her regular Alaska run. She was setting off on a 12-night sailing to Hawaii, with a stop in Seattle, five days at sea, then on to Kona and then Honolulu.

After that she keeps going across the Pacific to Sydney for the Australian summer season, so this was Vancouver’s last look at her in all her glory till next year.

A bit about the ship: Anthem is one of Royal Caribbean’s Quantum-class ships, built by Meyer Werft in Germany and launched in 2015. She has 16 passenger decks and over 2,000 cabins, and that arm up top is the North Star, a glass capsule that lifts guests high above the ship for the view.

Surfing the wake of giants.

It was fun filming a local e-foiler riding the wakes of two departing cruise ships against the stunning backdrop of English Bay, Point Grey, and Vancouver’s west side yesterday.🛳️🏄‍♂️🌊

The first was Disney Wonder, a 294-metre (965-foot) cruise ship carrying up to 2,456 guests as she departed on her Alaska voyage.

Not long after, Norwegian Jade followed her out of the harbour.Also 294 metres (965 feet) long, she can carry approximately 2,350 passengers.

Enjoyed filming at the entrance to False Creek last week — great summer vibes with tons of people out on the water! Yachts and tour boats coming and going from Pelican Bay Marina right by Bridges on Granville Island. Bard on the Beach looks all prepped near the Planetarium as well. Time to come out to Granville Island and ‘Play Around’😁
Nothing beats days like this 🌊☀️

• Golden Eagle Egg: Spotted this classic tour/charter boat too — a two-deck vessel that takes groups out for private charters and cruises around False Creek and beyond (up to 38 passengers). Book at goldeneaglecharters.ca.

From high-rise facade cleaning to meticulous surface maintenance, their skilled rope access team — fully trained in fall protection and safety protocols — helps preserve the building’s integrity, keep surfaces looking new, and prevent long-term degradation. The result? A cleaner, longer lasting, and more welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff.

Safety & Compliance First:
A flight plan was filed and approved for Advanced Operations using my Mavic 4 Pro up to 198ft via the NAV Drone portal operated by NAV CANADA. I also completed a comprehensive 42 page site assessment the day before the operations.

All flights used a trained dedicated visual observer to maintain visual line of sight with the drone at all times. We communicated via cell phones with AirPods during the flights. Drone operations were covered with liability insurance with SkyWatch.

A short flight above 200 ft, but less than 400ft was conducted utilizing a Mini 5 Pro to comply with the regulations regarding drone operations within:
-YVR Class C airspace and Certified Heliport airspace’s of both Women’s and Children’s Hospitals.

Huge respect to the Flat Mate team for their professionalism and commitment to safety and quality workmanship. This is what next level, expert building maintenance looks like.

Japan Coast Guard training vessel Itsukushima (PL-23) departed North Vancouver under the Lions Gate Bridge May 20th, 2026 after a short visit.
This sleek 134-metre ship left Pier 7 at The Shipyards, followed closely by luxury cruise ship Seven Seas Explorer as both headed out of the harbour under Lions Gate Bridge.
Japan Coast Guard’s newest and largest training vessel was commissioned in 2024, has 5,500 tons displacement and a 16m beam. Itsukushima serves as a floating academy for cadet training, advanced navigation, and performs international goodwill missions across the Indo-Pacific. After her recent stop in Victoria, she called at Vancouver before continuing her voyage.
