Hadn’t banked on pre-5 am wake-ups four days in a row including on @sydney_marathon Sunday - and I wasn’t even running!
.
But needs must if you want to catch the elites and some of the masses flying across the Harbour Bridge as the sun was rising 🙌🏼

Spectating a WMM I’m yet to run was a vibe. Not gunning for the nine (she says now) but hopefully will nab the 7th star soonish …

6:14 am: heading towards the middle of the Bridge to find a possie pre-gun - I ended up retreating as the fence line was too high along here …

6:30 am: the calm before the elites. Saw a wicked sunrise five minutes prior to this shot being taken.

Here come the elite women (Peres Jepchirchir, who took the W, in the pink top).

6:50 am: not too shabby a view over my shoulder 😍

9:50 am: runners in both directions on College Street (adjacent to Hyde Park).

10:34 am: weaving my way towards Circular Quay (might have had to cut the course 🫢) and came across this bus being used as a road block. Total Austin Powers moment lol

Can confirm that top knotting kitbags and baggage lorry loading at the @londonmarathon start village is far more intense than being behind the @sydney_marathon expo bib collection desk.
.
But there’s a different kind of intensity making sure that if someone’s collecting 10 x Mini Marathon bibs (my ‘in one go’ record on the day) across different registrations that they’re accurately assigned. Each bib/timing chip has to be associated with an individual, and the collector needs to know whose is whose.
.
Then there’s the added pressure making sure the full marathoners are fully ID checked before scanning and handing over their bib packets together with finisher shirts that match the sizes requested at sign-up.
.
Bonus from volunteering this time last week was practising on myself first and getting to pick my 5K bib number, plus sharing the shift with my sister who learned lots more about this marathoning malarkey. It ended with checking out the expo itself … but somehow I managed to leave with ZERO purchases! Say what?!

Almost 6 months since I’ve gotten any running bling, so though it’s for ‘just a’ 5K that I didn’t race, here’s to #medalmonday from Sydney.
.
The Mini Marathon 5K course starts on Macquarie Street, takes you on an out and back through part of the Royal Botanic Garden, past one side of Hyde Park and replicates the last km of the marathon for a lovely downhill finish in front of the Opera House.
.
Inspired to throw my name in the ballot to get a bib for next year’s marathon, run a further 37.2 km and claim the other (almost) home star.

This is the home stretch for both the Mini Marathon (5K) and Marathon - it’s all downhill from here to that famous Sydney Opera House finish.

The weather gods were on our side this Matariki (Māori New Year) long weekend: made it a very outdoorsy one bookended with a volcano walk and Sunday long run.

Shortest Day long run along Shore Road was ‘fun’ with its near vertical incline!

That’ll teach me for forgetting that what goes waaaay down must at some point go back up 🙃

Marking this year’s #globalrunningday with a satisfying throwback to 3 months ago: running the streets of Tokyo on a stunning day in the race that concluded my @wmmajors Six Star journey.
.
8 years (interrupted by the pandemic and an injury), 9 marathon training cycles (1 x DNF, 2 x DNS), thousands of global miles, and countless memories. Thanks, running - you’re a keeper!

Sun sets on a weekend where the weather was perfect for running. Trying to return to some consistency without having anything significant locked in over the months ahead.
.
This weekend’s running looked like track yesterday - for the 1st time since December (!) so it wasn’t pretty by any means but job done - and a road long run today about town, which partially included a route I haven’t covered in a long time. Had a couple of runners to chase down, which helped!
.
Looking to head across the Ditch for @sydney_marathon weekend though (to volunteer, and run the 5K for that Opera House finish), so shout if you’re planning on being there as well 🙌🏼

2 years ago: before, during and after.
.
Making the start line of @londonmarathon 2024 was always going to be interesting, given at the time I was juggling training alongside an international relocation between hemispheres.
.
But I returned to pull it off and the magic of London shone through on the day: I bagged a PB and BQ to leave me with the best memories of literally the last time I ran on London’s streets.
.

I’ll need to savour this feeling on a marathon course for a bit longer - for whenever the next 26.2 will be, as I’ve made the controversial choice not to chase my 2nd unicorn (this year it’s golden!) this coming Monday.
.
I’m aware I’m giving up an opportunity that’s hard to come by … and I don’t know if I’ll be lucky enough to run Boston again in the future.
.
I have been running so don’t worry, I’m not injured at all …! There are a number of running and non-running reasons that have contributed to this call.
.
Having previously completed two marathons five weeks apart, crossing the finish line in Tokyo seven weeks prior to Boston isn’t so much the issue.
.
This time, I’ve decided not to push my luck, and will respect the 26.2 distance. I mean I COULD run, but I don’t have to or need to … therefore it’ll be a DNS for me.
.
FOMO will definitely hit hard on Patriots’ Day. But knowing I’ve earned it, I’ll absolutely be wearing my #boston130 celebration jacket with pride. To those heading to Hopkinton, I’ll be cheering you on from afar!
