Meet Joan. Sea swimmer all weathers. Dog walker. Thinking about love in her Autumn years...

Trying out writing my own work. This is one of the takes I worked on for the Cornwall Monologue competition I was lucky enough to be selected for last Autumn. Amazing to be selected with my first try at writing rather than devising, and was thrilled (duanted too) to see it up on the big screen back in the Autumn.

I didn’t actually select this take but another, and looking back I think I should have selected this one.

Am now writing a short film around it, but thinking to maybe start with her stumble and their subsequent conversation or not, rather than all the diatribe at the beginning...?

What a wonderful way to spend a morning, dressing up as a witch and having talented artists sketch you in different poses. Even met one of the animators from the original watership down!!! Love this one @april4586 by @glintinghd

This little gal/guy was found on the window sill occasionally moving but not doing very well. We mixed some muscadavo sugar with warm water and scooped him up gently on to the saucer, and this is him lapping up the sugar water mix.

We then left a geranium stem next to him which he crawled up into and went to sleep. A worrying couple of hours passed and then miraculously he was up and buzzing around merrily 🤩

Released back into the garden.
Felt good to help a little creature get back on the wing 🥰

And yet there is so much cruelty out there. Destruction of habitat, numbers of creatures disappearing.
And I feel impotent to help them.

I hope that our destruction of whole species is not deliberate. That it is our ignorance as we focus on growth and prosperity. Because then we can learn more about how important nature is and do better. Look at what we can give rather than what we can take.
We can and should do better.
That is my hope.

But it isn’t always ignorance…
Sometimes it is deliberate. Habitat deliberately destroyed in the name of progress. Chemicals deliberately used in the name of profit.
And it breaks my heart.

And then I see what is happening to children in the world and it is deliberate. It’s not a thoughtlessness, unbelievably, it is targeted. So many children starving out there, being killed out there. Deliberately.

If ignorance is not a good excuse then deliberately targeting those weaker than ourselves is certainly not acceptable.

We can and should do better.

I & from what I see on social media thousands of others (many of them bravely standing up for children, even being arrested for quietly, peacefully protesting these atrocities) want to be able to scoop these children up, protect them, provide water, food and shelter for them. Make a difference.
Protect them from being targeted.

And yet… it is still happening.
And it breaks my heart.

Yes we can give to charities working in these areas. Yes we can write to our mps. But this is not enough.

@perranmoonmp as my MP, I say we should be doing better for those who find themselves targets. We can and should be doing better.
