Hiii 🫶🏼 we’re the Mamians! It’s been a minute since we properly introduced ourselves…

I’m Amber (mom) and mostly the voice behind our account. Mike and I got married in Maui in 2003 which makes 23 years this July 🥰

We have six kids together through birth and adoption. Camden (23), Owen (21), Shea (19), Ella (18), Olivia (12), and Jack (4)... yes, there’s a 19 year age gap between the oldest and the youngest which is so fun 😂

Shea joined our family at the age of 3 from Ethiopia in 2010 and Livvy was born in Florida and joined us at birth in 2013.

I started this account 11 years ago because I was lonely in motherhood and what it’s become is greater than anything I could have ever dreamed.

The best part… YOU!! We are so grateful for your love and support. For just being here and doing life with us ❤️ and if you are new here, welcome!!!! This is literally the best community.

I haven’t always been the “fun” mom. Truth is it’s been a process to get here. But, let me tell you I have ZERO REGRETS!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼

As a mom of 6 kids (ages 3, 10, 17, 18, 19, and 21), I speak from experience when I tell you this…

👉🏼 Your clean house, organized pantry, perfectly folded laundry will NOT be what you reminisce about after you drop your babies off at college 😢

What WILL fill you with joy and bring you peace is 👉🏼knowing you made the moments count.

You created memories that will last you a lifetime and put a smile on your face when you walk past their empty bedroom 🥹

It’s not too late to make some changes. Start planning in the fun, say YES to a few things that will SHOCK your kids and start creating the memories you truly want to be making with your kids 🥰🥰🥰

I’ll be honest… part of the reason we kept having babies was because I was SO scared of this stage 🙈

Teens. Kids leaving for college. The dreaded “empty nest.” I really thought that’s where the fun ended.

Friend, it’s anything but empty. It’s so full!!

The last few weeks have looked like:
⚾️ Cheering at a Padres game with my Cam & Shea
🏈 My big boys coming home on Sundays to watch the Niners
💛 Tailgating with Shea at SDSU parents weekend
📱 FaceTimes from the big kids just to check in… that turn into an extra 30 minutes of them entertaining Jack and Olivia 🥹
🥂 And Mike and I actually getting out with our friends (who are we?! 😝)

This season is SO fun. And it makes me incredibly thankful for what we chose to prioritize when they were little. For us that meant family trips over club sports, sometimes pulling them out of school for an adventure, and experiences over stuff. It wasn’t always the popular choice, and it’s definitely not the only way. But I had no idea back then that those little choices were building THIS.

If you’re a mama with littles (or grumpy teens!!) and you’re quietly dreading this stage… I see you. I was you. It can be so, so good 🫶🏼

Can we talk about the REAL back-to-school struggle?
Getting everyone to go to bed at a reasonable hour. 😂
After a summer of late nights, travel, time zones and absolutely zero concept of what day it is… suddenly we’re like, “Okay guys! School starts Monday! Everyone asleep by 8:30!” 😂

I started using @plantpeople Wonder Sleep + Wonder Sleep Kids earlier this summer and they’ve become part of our nighttime routine.

I use Wonder Sleep myself, and we’ve been using Wonder Sleep Kids as part of the kids’ wind-down routine. It’s been especially helpful during those times when we’re trying to get everyone back on a schedule after traveling or summer break.

And this year, with Olivia starting junior high + a whole new schedule, I’ve really appreciated having something that helps her settle down at night so she can start the next day feeling more rested.

Because apparently “just go to sleep” is not the magical sleep solution I thought it was when I became a mom. 😂

So yes, the backpacks are packed. The school supplies are bought. And we are officially working on getting our sleep schedules back in the building. 😴

The older my kids get, the more we look back on these “little” traditions that seem to hold so many memories. ❤️

Trust me, they might roll their eyes when you first start them, but these matter so much to all of us now that they’re growing up and moving out.

Good news! It’s the end of a chapter, not the book! ❤️

I have 4 kids who’ve hit this age (with 2 littles still at home) and yes - it’s hard. But it’s also so so sweet! The time we have with them now feels EXTRA special and I find myself enjoying it even more.

Over the years, we’ve found these are a few of the things that help us stay the most connected when we’re not together:

• Schedule regular FaceTime calls and protect that time. 📱

• Put the next visit on the calendar before saying goodbye. 🗓️

• Send thoughtful surprises just because, not only on holidays. 💌

• Visit them where they are. Seeing their new routines, friends, and favorite spots helps you stay connected to this new chapter they’re in. ✈️

• Focus on building an adult relationship, not holding on to the child they used to be. ❤️

•Travel. Vacation. You know this is a big one for us because it means we all get to be under one roof making the same memories. It’s what we built our business @bestdayevervacay on for a reason!

I’ve put together my favorite college send-off resources, including a dorm packing list, meaningful things to do before move-in, and tips for navigating that first goodbye.

While everyone else is singing “Happy Birthday,” I’m replaying the last 12 years in my head. 🥹

The tiny Olivia.
The toddler Olivia.
The little girl who somehow turned every ordinary day into an adventure.
The giggles, the messes, the cuddles, the tears, the inside jokes… all of it.

And then suddenly, I’m looking at a 13-year-old. A TEENAGER. 😭

Olivia, watching you grow up has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I wish I could freeze time, but since I can’t, I’ll just keep collecting the moments and replaying them whenever I need to remember how quickly it all goes.

Happy 13th birthday, Liv. 🤍
I love the girl you were, I love the girl you are, and I can’t wait to see the woman you become.

But please slow down a little. Mom is not ready. 🥹

Life lately… aka how is it already September?! 😂

We got to see BOTH Camden and Owen this week, which basically means I was thriving 🥹❤️ And Papa Romeo came to visit for a few days before heading off to Armenia. He’s 85, still traveling the world, and honestly… I need to know what his secret is because THAT is the goal. 😂✈️🌎

Also, our little travel agency was named the #2 fastest-growing travel company in the NATION on this year’s Inc. 5000!!! ✨✨✨ Still feels a little surreal to type that sentence. Congrats to all our amazing agents and employees @bestdayevervacay 👏🏼👏🏼

Meanwhile, at home we’re figuring out this whole “only two kids live here now” thing. 😂 The house is quieter, the routines are different, and apparently our family group chat has become the main place we all keep track of each other’s lives. Thank goodness for FaceTime.

We also found what might be the best local donut situation ever. Shoutout to VG Donuts in Encinitas. 🍩 You’re welcome.

And the sunsets from home lately?? 🥹🌅 We’ve been trying to slow down enough to actually enjoy them.

So that’s the update from our corner of the world. A little busy, a little chaotic, a little bittersweet… but pretty darn good.

Some things we do to make it easier 👇🏼

•Lots of Facetime calls (this helps a lot if you have little kids at home)

•Always having a family vacation on the calendar. That uninterrupted time where you’re all under the same roof is gold

•Care packages for holidays and birthdays where you’re not together. As a mom, this has helped a lot to know I’m doing something and they have something to look forward to when they might be missing home.

•Visiting them! Don’t wait for them to come to you. Spending long weekends in the cities where my kids are living have been one of the best to still feel connected and be a part of their life.

•Preparing before they leave. I put together a dorm packing list, a few things to do together, and some tips for your first goodbye.

Something I’ve learned about having teenagers (I’ve had 4 of them) is:

1️⃣ Hold space just to listen and be near your kids. Correction only happens after you have connection.
2️⃣ Then when you do have a conversation, take accountability first (maybe you didn’t set clear expectations?) and be sure to give them the benefit of the doubt.
3️⃣ When your child is open to hearing some corrective criticism, close by making a plan for the future. it

We’ve found this works so much better than jumping to punishment for everything.
