Trevor Waurechen will have his door to Studio 33 open at our Fall Show and Sale. Trevor is a multidisciplinary artist whose career has been defined by its plurality. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design, yet an outsider artist in many respects. Primarily self-taught in most media, Trevor is an illustrator, cartoonist, printmaker, painter, sculptor, installation artist, and more.

Trevor's work seeks to engage audiences in an emotional conversation about meaning, value and understanding. No work is complete until it has been viewed, and responded to, by an audience. Many of Trevor's works are deliberately ambiguous, eliciting a pause, a contemplation of meaning on the part of the viewer. It is in this moment, and the moment in which the viewer reacts (positively, negatively, or anywhere in-between) that the work truly comes alive and is complete. We remember that to which we devote effort. For Trevor, the most perfect artwork is a puzzle which viewers work to solve.

Fresh from her outstanding solo exhibition at Gallery 78 in Fredericton, we are so excited that Cathy Ross will be opening her studio door at our Fall Art Show and Sale.

Cathy Ross was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. She studied at Mount Allison University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. In 1983 she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Banff School of Fine Arts. In both 1981 and 1983 Cathy was the recipient of Elizabeth T. Greenshields Foundation grants.

In her professional career she has exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions in Canada and the US. Her work is represented in collections across Canada, including: Memorial University, NFLD; New Brunswick Museum, Saint John NB; The Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa; Banff Centre, Alberta; Dofasco Inc., Hamilton; and the Burnaby Art Centre, Burnaby BC.

Cathy lives and works in Waterloo, Ontario and Saint Andrews, New Brunswick.

In Cathy's words:
"As an artist, I am interested in looking at objects closely and conveying my visual response to them . Something will capture my attention - a certain colour, the unique shape of a plant or the charm of an everyday object. I then collect these things and have them in my studio as possible subjects for my work. Through careful observation, I try to convey the uniqueness and special character of each object. Sometimes elements are arranged in complex compositions, other times, I use a single subject in isolation. My paintings are meant to be intimate. I want the viewer to pause and take in the subtle joy of the ordinary and the ephemeral beauty of the natural world."

We welcome back Soroush Dabiri to the Globe Studios Art Show and Sale. Soroush is a full-time Iranian-Canadian visual artist; painter and designer. Soroush’s paintings have been represented through varied galleries in the context of solo and group exhibitions inside and outside of Canada. Soroush is curatorial assistant at Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery and his art has been selected and awarded several times through juried exhibitions.

Soroush's art responds to his concerns about biodiversity loss, habitat destruction, and the fragile balance of ecosystems. He employs a mixture of water-based and oil-based mediums to translate the complexity of ecological issues into visual narratives. Soroush weaves narratives that explore the delicate web of life, symbolizing the fragility of biodiversity and the profound impact of human choices. He invites viewers to engage with my work as a catalyst for reflection and dialogue.

Come to see Soroush's work in person on November 20th and 21st.

Globe is excited to introduce Esther Slevinsky to our Fall Show & Sale on November 20th & 21st.

Esther Slevinsky is a multidisciplinary artist based in Waterloo. She studied Graphic Design and Illustration at ACAD. Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions throughout Ontario, including a solo exhibition at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts and an installation at the CAFKA.23 Biennial.

Esther paints order to domestic chaos to fulfill a desperate longing for control because her art studio is in her home. Her subject matter includes the yuck and yum of her pantry, familiar items that connect us to home, and domestic tasks traditionally considered woman’s work.

She enjoys playing with point of view to create a feeling of intimacy or a warped sense of reality, often drawing in a bird’s eye view. She paints solely from life often in one sitting and enjoys the restrictive time limit this method imposes.

Globe is thrilled to welcome back Guelph based artist Laurie Skantos to the Fall Art Show and Sale.

Laurie is known for her minimalist wall sculptures that explore the interplay of colour, form, and materiality. She studied Fine Art at the University of Waterloo and has received numerous accolades, including residencies, awards and honorable mentions in juried exhibitions worldwide.

Laurie's work explores the interplay of form, colour, and reflection, blurring the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Employing an experimental and rigorous practice, she works with oil paint, cold wax medium, acrylics, and shaped, laminated forms. The edges of each piece are painted with fluorescent colours, which, when mounted on a wall, create a halo-like aura around the work.

In her most recent series, Laurie reimagines the overlooked structures of cardboard packaging—objects designed for function rather than aesthetics—transforming them into art pieces. These works balance precision and playfulness, animating the surrounding space and inviting a shifting visual experience that encourages engagement from multiple perspectives.

Come to the show on Friday November 20th and Saturday November 21st to see Laurie's work! Check out her Instagram to get a preview @laurieskantzosart

Globe is happy to welcome back Cathy Amos to our Fall Show and Sale.

Cathy is active in the local art community with four outdoor public paintings in Kitchener, St. Jacobs and Elmira. She's been honoured with several awards from juried shows and continues to challenge herself with new concepts to keep the paintings exciting and joyful.

Cathy Amos is a visual artist who loves incorporating vibrant colours and patterns into representational work using acrylic paint. Still life arrangements often include pottery from local makers and flowers from her garden. Her collection of fabrics is also highlighted in foreground and background placements. She enjoys painting landscapes, sometimes from memory, and at times challenges herself with a limited colour palette.

Bruce Taylor will be participating in the Globe Studios Art Show and Sale on Friday November 20th and Saturday November 21st. Drop by Studio 4 to see his beautiful ceramic works.

Bruce Taylor was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1989 and joined the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo in 1993. He has held appointments at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Emily Carr College of Art, and the Rhode Island School of Design.

In Bruce's words: "My practice bridges ceramics and drawing, two disciplines that have evolved independently yet continually inform one another. Working primarily in ceramics, I explore the enduring idea of the vessel as a meeting point of function, material, and meaning. My forms draw on the clarity and restraint of Minimalism, while their surfaces embrace the improvisation, rhythm, and spontaneity of jazz. Through an iterative process, each work responds to the one before, allowing subtle shifts in form, colour, and surface to emerge. I seek a delicate balance where surface and form alternately reveal, conceal, and redefine one another."

Maca Suazo is a Globe artist set up in the very tiny Studio 15 where she creates magical narrative paintings filled with imagination and cheer. You may know her work from the children's section of the Kitchener Public central Library.

Maca Suazo immigrated to Canada in 1998 from Chile. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo and completed her Master of Arts in Latin American Studies at the University of Guelph. She is a passionate reader and devotes her summers to organic farming where she finds inspiration in Nature.

Her work explores Memory, Nature and Literature. Memories growing up in Chile, where colour combinations are of unexpected complexities; the deep sense of connection she experiences with Nature working in an organic farm; and the world of fiction that Literature offers. Each painting is titled after a line of a poem, making Literature the unifying component behind each composition.

Come to our Fall Art Show & Sale to feel the joy in Maca’s work.

Jen Prior is a Waterloo-based visual artist with fifteen years of studio practice. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Silence and Seven Shores, in the Globe Studios Annual Art Show, and in juried exhibitions with the Federation of Canadian Artists and Society of Canadian Artists, and has been covered by CTV News and CBC News.

According to Jen: "My paintings begin in the body before they reach the canvas - in feeling, in memory, in the familiar echo of light moving through water or across a forest floor. Nature is my source, not my subject; I paint what nature does when no one is paying attention.

Working in large-format acrylic and oil pastel, I trade brushes for the directness of my hands. The work surfaces intuitively, often ahead of my understanding - I arrive at a finished piece knowing something true has been made before I know why. Motherhood has sharpened my attention to how quickly the present becomes memory. My work is a visual journal to document my life."

Catch Jen's work at the Fall Globe Art Show & Sale.

We have an amazing collection of jewellers bringing their creations to the Globe Fall Art Show & Sale on November 20th and 21st starting with the very talented Carolyn Young!

Carolyn Young is a contemporary jeweller and artist whose work has been exhibited in juried and curated national and international exhibitions and published in numerous exhibition catalogues and in 500 Art Necklaces (Lark). She was awarded a Maker Residency at the Canadian Craft Biennial in 2017 and the Best of Jewellery Award at Toronto Outdoor Art Fair in 2022.

Carolyn's work is exploratory: a meeting of alternative and traditional materials and methods. Inspired by the phenomenon of emergence in nature (such as murmurations of birds), she seeks the creative moment when a repetition of elements transforms into something cohesive: a new art object.

Don't miss seeing Carolyn's stunning jewellery!
