In Grace DeVito’s portrait of JoJo, oil, 8.5 x 8 inches, the artist masterfully captures the calm character and quiet dignity of this creature. The cow’s dark, gentle eyes and engaging glance immediately draw you in, creating a sense of connection and calm. DeVito highlights the cow’s soft hairs around the ears, delicately illuminated by natural light, lending a luminous, tender quality to the painting. The thick, textured brushstrokes emphasize the softness of its fur, with light catching the wispy hairs around its muzzle and ears, making them glow subtly in the warm light. The looseness of the background directs focus to the cow’s face. Textured strokes around the mouth suggest movement, a slow, rhythmic munching of dry grass, hinting at a peaceful moment in its day. This painting is not just a portrait of a cow—it’s an ode to serenity, an earthy, meditative stillness, as though you’ve paused beside JoJo on a farm, watching nature unfold in its quiet beauty.

This is one of the 85 magnificent paintings in our show Valentine Gems. This show opens this Friday, Jan 31 from 5-8. Click the link in our bio to see the collection.

Had the opportunity to see We The People by @marywhyteofficial at the Grohmann Museum in Milwaukee while there for a commission. Met up with the very talented @murzynfineart to see it. What Mary does with watercolor is amazing and she is one of the best designers of paintings I have ever seen. The show is poignant as well as technically brilliant.
Make the trip to see the show, you won’t regret it!
